You don't get this sort of behaviour between rival pathology labs or precision engineering factories.

It is about time Thailand moved up the skills chain from having about 80% of the male workforce either claiming to or aspiring to be a "professional driver". There are simply too many of them. Go to any of the large public sector buildings around Bangkok and you will find many of these drivers just hanging around waiting all day for some kind of driving work that doesn't involve too much manual or mental effort.

They'll all be cannon fodder soon enough. Cat's clawing frantically to be let out the bag! 3... 2... 1... Boom! They're just keeping their civil warfare skills honed.

Who, the poster or the driver? There must be 'nice' Taxi Drivers in Pattaya, but it's hard to imagine it to be so.

If they won't use the meter, then uber will make money here, eventually probably with uber bikes. For very short hops within the center the usual baht bus, only the rip off days are now over. Simple.

Yes another as expected response must do better. Pay your woman a bit more she might help you write a decent response. after all you couldn't expect a western woman to even look at you according to your post.

I could resort to following your supercilious, and as yet, still undefended first effort, but it's pretty piss poor, and the dull wit you are so proud of is getting tedious. Any chance of saying anything meaningful at all today? Or ever?

Why do people with spurious arguments always start their rebuttal with, "Oh here we go"? Is it an attempt to gain traction, something akin to taking a literary deep breath or is it like revving a motorbike to demonstrate its power, dunno.

    Still clueless? Figures.

Have you ever been to Thailand!

Oh here we go... WHY do you think I made the remark in the FIRST place?

I have no quarrel with guys who pay to play, I AM one, and I also get by very well with a 'mea' that does not charge like a wounded bull for the co-habitation! Didn't some other guy mention getting a sino/thai lady of means? Yeah, something like that might be close to my set-up.

But if the hat fits, wear it.

as anywhere in the Kingdom where the Tsunami of clueless Chinese mainland tourists reaches the shores, prices for everything go up quickly. Transportation is no exception

I think you'll find Chinese are very frugal in tourism, plus they buy stuff we usually don't care for anyway, weird potions, religious and 'lucky' artefacts, gold jewellery etc.

What actually drives prices up worldwide, is the fact that property is now a speculative commodity rather than a living necessity.

When property shifts at galactic levels, other prices must follow.

Also BRICS countries are seeing massive -unprecedented in human history- middle class growth. Adding fuel to the price fire.

Where it will end in tears, is when the debt bubble bursts, wiping out the teetering wealth of these newly minted middle earners. They still lack fundamental monetary sense. It's everyone on the sheeple property market gravy train, mortgaged to the hilt! What could possibly go wrong?

  7. If you don't wear a seatbelt in the back of a taxi (yes I know the clowns hide them, Grrrr!) and you get messed up bad, your insurance will investigate the wreck, and .... they WON'T PAY. Same if you wilfully refuse to wear available belts, they know from millions of accidents what injuries are sustained under thousands of scenarios. In more advanced countries, the police have been forensically able to determine the true speed of vehicles in any accident for decades.

Tried Uber last 2 weekends going form Loi Kroh to Santitham and back. All rides only 65 baht and waiting time was only 10 minutes.

Some drivers complain they not make money , but that is there style trying to get a tip.

I always top up to 100.- baht because its so convenient sitting in a normal car with air-con.

I also hear from an honest female driver that she made good money,.

There is plenty money in it for people who WORK like the rest of the planet have to. What they mean is the can't game the system so farangs pay more. You can bet they are not whining to any Thai passengers about the money! In fact, just like the luxury red plate cars many can't afford, if uber have a very smart Thai marketing team they can create a certain status cachet by catching uber. IF uber drivers are available on my nights out I will gladly pay the party premiums that uber (not the driver) charge for the added peace of mind and ability to have a decent night on the town! The drivers also get a cut of this. Once they accept this is the way 'we do it now' it will be great. Going 'off the app' is NOT a good idea, anything goes wrong, you have ZERO comeback, even your insurance won't cover you for any medical then! But few realise this...

Songtaews are pricey? The last time I took one (about 5 years ago) , it cost 17 Baht to get from Kad Luang to Mae Jo University! Are you joking? I'm fairly certian the price has not gone up.

It's never less than THB 20 now. Plus, these dirty diesels putter about all over the place to get to your destination, plus, it's inherently dangerous, sitting sideways is not a great thing in any collision over 5 km/h, plus, it's standing in the heat and the dust waving down, negotiating.

It is early days, Uber, given the chance, will crush the Mafia here and there is nothing they can do about it, but get on the bloody roads, where they should be, not holed up at the airport. Better global Taxi services than these tinpot gangstas have had to accept Uber, riots and all...

It is a sweet sweet revenge for us all, Thailand is being FORCED into compliance with the rest of the civilised world. They can't have their corrupt cake and eat it forever, it doesn't work that way.

I make that about 25,000 Bt..  is that right.. if so.. you would have a pretty spartan life here.. .  even in Isaan... not a lot of money left for honey..

Most expats pay too mutt for 'honey' because; they have to.

It's the premium the 'honey' charges for living with a male that would not, or could not, hold his own with women anywhere else, let alone back home.

So I wouldn't gloat old boy...

im not sure thats true, i think food and shopping for just about anything is higher in Pattaya. although I think it is possible to find cheap rental.

The real fact of the matter is that Thailand tourism had its heyday through the 80's, 90's and early 2000's and now it's declining. I also think the country does not help itself in welcoming long term guests,, LOS it aint!

The reasons can be debated all day but one thing that cannot be debated is the increase in cost of living. Thailand just isn't that cheap anymore. Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are the cheap SE Asia destinations for today and they will boom over the next 5 to 10 years for sure.

Cambodia  and Myanmar are NOT cheaper than here and they are utter site holes.  numbeo.com is my evidence. as were boots on the ground there.

Great, another brexiteer who shafted himself vis the GBP debacle that ensued. They dislike the (mistaken) idea that blow in foreigners live better than the average local schmuck here too. you'll fit right in.

What a charming chap you are.

Can't say I'm remotely surprised that your account has been suspended before and cancelled twice.  Hardly something to be proud about.

Suspect you'll be heading towards future suspensions pretty quick with your unfriendly attitude.

Bobs down to his ninth life! it takes A LOT to get banned off here, and boasting about it is lame as framboise tartine.

Expats usually choose to leave their native country for a career boost, or to fulfill a personal dream or goal, rather than as a result of dire economic necessity. Working for British gas or the US Postal Service for 45 years and meeting a woman on "Thailustlines" doesn't do it for me. I've actually never met a pensioner who wished he hadn't moved here before he/she did.

    Meet me!

a lot depends on individual circumstances. over the years i lured six friends to Pattaya. two of them couldn't cope at all and returned after a rather short time. another two are spending 6 months here and 3  months in their home countries (Germany and Switzerland) and 3 months travelling. the remaining two have completed 2, respectively 3 years and are quite happy.

You make it sound like you had a dungeon existence planned for them! no wonder they gapped it!

We all know what it's about. Stop that, and it will all collapse like a deck of cards. Farangs who live in Pattaya and claim innocence ...  weĺl, you have a lot if face, I'll say that for you.

Leave him alone, he has a right to shag whoever he wants so long as its consensual adults, and foreigners who use the word 'farang' deserve no respect, go sterilize your probing tongue after you've measured how far up you can push it.

In my experience, the guys who came here to relax are the ones who can't afford to relax developed countries  - places like Hawaii or Monaco.

I've been an expat for 31 years. Personally, I don't call retired pensioners expats, although some do.

It costs an absolute SHITLOAD to retire in Hawaii or Monaco. I mean serious money! There is no shame at all in retiring here, why should there be?

It's warm, old guys can rent all the love they want, and it's affordable in general.  Only a malcontent would dream the grass is greener anywhere else, and while this place may have its problems, the 'west' is about to get very very ugly indeed, and that has NOTHING to do with who runs what, the monetary system is on freaking life support in the west!

    Exactly!

We make our own 'love' in the world you get mostly of what you give in life, anywhere.

    Are there Thai arseholeeos?

    Of course!

But we all run on the same 'clockwork', only the 'paint jobs' differ.

I think almost all of them have other reasons that they cannot or will not be open about, or ...ahhh who cares?

if you are over it leave.

Your new mates in whatever pub or bar you land in 'back home' will give you a platform to bitch all night, or maybe they'll just smack you in the moaning mouth, after too many...

All of those farangs who love thailand so much as says all the other expats who are leaving are poor losers etc......well I hope that one day you become the receiving end of what is really happenning in thailand these days. Watch this video and listen to what the guy says in thai.

So some <deleted> in a benz trash talks a geriatric, and you want me to shit my pants? I'd have kicked that hi-so prick in the balls, not chit chat. When I get out of my car, you are going down, because, I am beyond peace talks at that point.

  21. Is this still going on?

    Even Trump can't trump it!

I considered it, I went to Cambodia for a week, it was 6 days too many!  I remembered the Philippines -before the lunatic took over the asylum, NO THANKS! I don't trust Malaysia to remain MSH friendly, and I can't handle the claustrophobia (or costs) of Singapore, Hong Kong or Vietnam's endless traffic chaos.

I guess 'Sabailand' will have to do...

There are worse places to live right now, and some of them are actually in the so called 'top ten' global destinations! Maybe if you have a CEO package, but since most of us live in the real world...
