People who complain incessantly and look miserable most of the time, would complain and be miserable wherever they were living.  TV gives them an outlet for their inner rage and disappointment at what life has done to them.  They take no responsibility for their own misery, which is why they blame the Thais  and Thailand for all their woes.  Take a walk down Pattaya Beach Road at midday day, any day  and the bars are full of miserable looking, mainly old men, drinking beer and just looking like they are already dead. I avoid them, I avoid where they go and I dont read their ranting posts.

INCOME STATEMENT LETTERS NO LONGER REQUIRED !

PHUKET:-- Phuket Immigration Deputy Chief Lt Col Archeep Jaroensuntisuk today (Nov 22) confirmed to The Phuket News that a letter confirming income is no longer required by any foreigner whose home country embassy no longer provides such official statements.

    https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/1069915-income-statement-letters-from-embassies-no-longer-required-confirms-phuket-immigration/

“However, the foreigner applying for the visa (or permit-to-stay) will still have to prove that they have the funds to stay in the country, such as by showing bank statements that prove the foreigner has B800,000 in a Thai bank account,” he said.

Make me laugh: "INCOME STATEMENT LETTERS NO LONGER REQUIRED !"  Of Course not because we cannot get it anymore from some of our embassies.  He should  rather tell, what he needs instead of income letters. Not everybody can find 800 000 baht.  Such a big joke       ????

Sadly, I think the average Thai actually does want us here.

The owner of the local shop that I go to so often that the wife calls her "my girlfriend" wouldn't be happy if I left.

The guy I pay to take care of the garden and share a beer with afterwards doesn't want me to leave.

Likewise the family run restaurant we visit for some noodle soup and a beer.

The Thais I paid to build our house, the local suppliers of building materials, big shops like Thai Watsadu who got at least 3 million in revenue.

Nissan Thailand who I bought my truck from.

    I could go on.

None of these people or entities want me, or people like me, to leave Thailand.

While we may not be the preferred high spenders that the Bangkok elite desire we continually pump money into the local economy.

Do you know how much these people will gain from high end tourists or the Chinese bus riders.

    Precisely zero.

I get all the arguments about the near destitute farangs that will burden the system.

But this is an incredibly small percentage of expats.

Most of us are financially independent though not wealthy.

We contribute much more to local economies than we will ever take out of them.

We pay for education of Thai children.

And on the whole we add to the Thai economy without burdening it.

I am not sure where this push to make it more difficult for long stay farangs is coming from.

I read TV almost daily and I don't see any kind of crime wave from retirees and married farangs.

Maybe there are multiple unreported incidents of bad behaviour I am not aware of.

Maybe it's a kind if racist xenophobia, certainly the pictures I see of black people targeted by Immigration suggests that. But maybe there are a lot of African criminals here.

Certainly there doesn't seem to be a problem with a million Burmese/Cambodian/Lao people here who, almost certainly, beyond providing cheap labor contribute far less to the Thai economy than western expats.

As always I am confused by policy decisions here.

My friend who lives well, has 3 golf memberships, lives in a 15 million baht condo relies on an income statement.

He probably spends less than 65000 every month.

Last year he bought a new SUV for about 1.5 million.

He is fully capable of putting 800K in the bank but chooses to earn about 80K abroad.

Do you really want to put an individual like that in a position where he cannot extend his visa by any recognised means because his embassy pulls off the immediate withdrawal of income letters he has used for the last 18 years?

That's what you want to do to a 78 year old man who has poured 10's of millions of baht into the Thai economy?

    Lots of bananas here.

    ????

While we may not be the preferred high spenders that the Bangkok elite desire we continually pump money into the local economy." Spot on !!  Every word You state is so true !

Thank you for a report of your actual experience.  It's very valuable, although I wish the news were better.

As in your case, real people will be adversely affected by this debacle regarding the issuing of embassy income letters.  Embassy personnel will be completely unaffected as will Thai Immigration personnel, the negative consequences will fall entirely and solely on the individuals and their families seeking to use the income method for getting their extensions of stay.

Here are some things to consider in your situation.  First I would abandon using the income method.  Second, is it possible for you to fund a Thai bank account with 800,000 baht?  If so, you could switch to the seasoned money-in-the-bank method of getting your retirement extension (assuming you're not married to a Thai, in which case you would only need 400,000).  It would need to be seasoned (in the bank account) for a period of three [corrected from two] months for your first retirement extension using that method.

If it's possible longterm to switch to the 800,000 baht in a Thai bank method then that would be the way to go.  Temporarily you maybe could make do with Visa Exempt Entries (30 days) and/or Tourist Visas (60 days) plus 30 day extensions to either.

If the 800,000 baht in a Thai bank is not feasible for you then perhaps you could obtain a non-imm O-A (long term stay) visa in your home country.  This route would give you up to nearly two years of time in Thailand.

The least desirable method if you cannot afford the 800,000 is to use a visa agent in Thailand which for a considerable fee can get you a retirement extension without you having to season the 800,000 in your Thai bank account for 3 [corrected from 2] months.  This is obviously not completely above-board and would only be something to consider if none of the previous suggestions were feasible.

Thank You for your very good advices.    I really appreciate your help  !

What exactly did you show TI?  Can you give us what you actually presented and the numbers behind them?  Are you receiving a pension of at least 65,000 baht, for example?

I presented my annual statement of income from the Government 2017 amd my forthcomming annual statement of income 2018.  Plus my bankstatements 3 month back showing my monthly income 127 000 baht in pensions from 3 diffrent sources minus tax.

    Please prove it...

This has been discussed several times on several thread in last 4 weeks, but I still saw nowhere any figures about that. I do think Jackdd is right: a very small percent of expats not able to get these 400/800k

You prove Your assertion ! In danish FB forums You will be proved Wrong !  You  maybe know about Your own countrymen, but You don't have a clue about danish nationalities !

I think most people have 400/800k to put them in a bank. Maybe some just didn't want until now because they don't trust Thai banks, but if they are forced to do it they will do it.

So there are probably only a few percent of people who stay in Thailand and don't have 400/800k to put on a Thai bank account, these few percent will probably change to agents or multiple non-o visas now.

Wrong !  Just Your guess !

In my estimation, you need to explian or argue, why someone would take your word over the science. Why should someone listen to you, over the scientists if they are trying to do what is best for their health and family's health?

"There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke."

    https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/secondhand_smoke/health_effects/index.htm

You can write them and tell them to change that wording if you would like, but to say "secondhand cig smoke will have no affect on you" is a position that is false based on the scientists recommendations. Again, why should we listen to you and not them, that is the point you must address.

Nothing have to be changed. In the link they talk about indors, not out in the free.  Get Your facts right !!

What is written in the law is what is in the Police Order No 327/2557 at section 2.22.

That includes amounts (800/400, 65/40) and options (bank, incomes, combo).

That does not include the rule that the proof must be an Embassy Letter...

BTW, changing this Police Order is a complicated and looong process. Last change was in 2013

    You are quite right.

Meeting the Financial Requirements for a Retirement Visa:

    Financial Requirements are as follows:

    • Bank Account showing THB 800,000
    • Monthly income of at least THB 65,000
    • Combination (Bank Account + Income x 12 = THB 800,000)

Up to oneself how to prove it   and make Immigration office happy I  suppose  ?!?

I understand that this article is kind of a puff piece but still don’t prejudge the man yet he’s just getting started.  I don’t think he hates foreigners he basically said that as long as we’re here legally then basically we have nothing to fear unless you’re a criminal which I actually think is a darn good thing.  In fact these crackdowns on foreign criminals always seem to occur the most whenever a new immigration chief is appointed, they always gotta start off strong just like any military leader does.  As long as those of us living here and tourists are here legally we shouldn’t have anything to worry about except for maybe a bit more government red tape and scrutiny if that.  I’m still a little bit worried about our British friends I hope that gets sorted out at their embassy ASAP.  Just try to stay positive if you’re not doing anything wrong you shouldn’t have anything to worry about there are always gonna be stresses in life that we all have to deal with no matter what color your passport is.  Try not to worry to much British citizens and keep the faith I have anxiety issues myself so I understand.  I’ll always remember that quote they taught us in SERE school “keep the faith”.

And seriously stop calling him “the big joke”. Quit insulting the man and treat him with mutual respect, PLEASE.

    I agree 100 % with You !!  People who dosn't are just cantankerous    !!

Realy.  You must be joking  !

That is not what most people here are complaining about. We all agree on the compensation.

It's the public display , press conference and big oversized cheques , like it some sort of game show. Thais have clearly no clue about how to be respectful in front of the victims .

It should have been a private ceremony , only for the police , insurance company and family. But Ministry of Tourism is behind this , that says it all.

That's just the Thaiway.  Take it or leave it !!
