They'll teach them a method that is not "grammar-vocabulary" rote learning.  Good for them.  That's the approach our school took to teach Thai English teachers.  And then after the training sessions, they would go back to their school and be told by their school administrators to teach "grammar-vocabulary" rote learning because that's the Gold Standard in Thai education!
"Forget about that fancy, new-fangled, farang teaching method."

Then let's not even talk about Thais aversion to risk taking.  To change the status quo, one has to be willing to take risks.  But Thai culture is highly risk adverse.
Change requires risk-taking; risk-taking leads to criticism; criticism leads to loss of face; loss of face is unacceptable; therefore, change never happens.

That's the reality of Thai culture.

What will happen is that they will laud the new approach; awards will be handed out; pictures will be taken and published; administrators will be promoted -- and then the teachers will go back to their classrooms and teach as they always have in the past.
That's the reality within the Thai institutions of education.

Yep, you can take a horse to water, but.....................

That was a pessimistic attitude. What about waiting and watching rather than expressing your prejudices

  2. I stay 6 month every winter in Pratumnak and buy every week upper thighs and drumsticks, never chicken fillets (too dry for me).

I always buy from Tesco Pratumnak.  Packed fresh with a last date.  When last date, discount price.

Of course no chance of smelling. Although I make sure of the look. If not look fresh I don't buy. Sometimes I put a few in my freezer for later use.

For 8 Years I have never experienced bad smell so i had to throw it out !

Just my luck it looks like by many comments  !!

Are you lazy to go somewhere nicer and worth the price ?

Yes You are rigt I am too lazy for long rides.  I prioritise Beaches I have been to Koh Chang which also is a lovely Island, but too far away for me. Not a question about price. Pattaya -Koh Chang Taxi  5 t 35 min (277,4 km) via Rute 3. The relatively small distance between the city of Pattaya and the resort island of Samet (less than 100 km) allows very quickly and with maximum comfort to reach the destination by taxi. I am + 70 now  !

If you were bit by an animal with rabies they advise that you get shots but it can take many weeks or even much, much longer to develop rabies.

What I'm saying is, it's not an emergency to get the shots, you don't need to call an ambulance or taxi minutes after the bite and go straight to the hospital.

It's something you can do when you have the time and opportunity.

"What do you do after a bite?
There is no treatment for rabies once the symptoms have been shown. Therefore, it is important to act immediately after you have been bitten. After a bite, consult a doctor, wash the wound thoroughly with water and soap, start vaccination programs immediately and, if possible, get antibodies to rabies. Also remember vaccination against tetanus. If you are bitten, you must have rabies vaccinations, whether or not you have already received vaccinations. However, fewer vaccinations can be made and you are better off if you have already been vaccinated. You should be aware of whether you travel to areas where vaccination and antibodies are not immediately available; In that case, it is particularly important to be vaccinated before departure."

I don't think so. Many older peopel have Insurance. Only a few think they can stay without.

Of course there are really a few which I believe they do self insurance.. but there are also a big part who tell they to this. but then when there is a bigger Issue.. they have no money and have to start a fund campain to become money.

Or mostly then they will be silent.. but as long they are in good health you hear them say everytime they don't need and till now already saved like 500'000 insurance cost.. so it was worth... when then the next day they have to go ICU for a few weeks the 500'000 which they in reality they not have would not even be enough.

But at the end it doesn't matter, because this people will never accept this.

    You are so right  !

If you decide to come, do not build the house. That will be a fatal error.

Find a cheap house to rent, obtain a cheap used car.

Give it a year or two. Then you will know for yourself what is possible.

....and even after a year or two I would never invest money in to something I don't have 100 % control of and risk to loose every thing. Without money You are a zero in Thailand  !

  7. What ever happens You will end up with a  broken heart and be broken economical..

After a time no girlfriend, no house and no money and what then ?!?!

Don't ever fall in to that trap, as so many foreigners painfully has done before You.

    End of story !

Thai style of sightseeing is you go in a tuktuk and he will bring you to the jewelryshop of his uncle where uncle and his staff unpack EVERYTHING so you feel guilty to not buy anything at extraordinary prices.

After that the tuktuk brings you to a taylorshop where he gets free fuelcoupons, the taylor will tell you to buy a suit or 2 and he'll show you pictures of Armani suits and the lot which he can copy.

After that the tuktuk brings you to athai handicraft shop where somebody is making artifacts for show, you can see it for a minute before going to the huge selling department where they all push you to buy their stuff.

So now the chinese thai bring the chinese tourists to their chinese uncles and their shops, not by tuktuk buy by coach.....same same krab....welcome to thailand.

It all depends on  You own choise !  If You really want a serious and memorable sightseeing in Bangkok don't be a cheap Charley. Look for a professional guide. I did and got my self  a fantastic Thaiguide (former teacher) english speaking, showing us the historical places.Transportation by tuc tuc and longtail boats.  "Chufah Plienlaor"

I have a 2005 Isuzu pick up and it must be inspected for roadworthy every 12 months for registration and insurance. All the maintenance is my responsibility the same as it was in Australia

Maybe like in Denmark years ago You could hand over a brown envelope to the inspektors and make him look the other way and go on with bad brakes and bad steering mechanics, maybe worn out tires.  When I read about corruption in other fields here in Thailand it could certainly be a possibility..  sad to mention.

  10. I do not see anyone mentioning mechanical failures due to poor maintenance.

Does anyone know if there are compulsory test intervals of vehicles in Thailand ?

Will car inspectors appear and investigate the cause of an accident,  due to mechanical failure  as in most European countries ?

I just wonder and have my doubts !

Given that it is still the rainy season, maybe the powers that be should have invested some effort in ensuring the drains were clear rather than removing "undesirables" from Beach Rd.

Talk about a loss of face on an international stage.

Nobody can predict the weather, but You are wrong concerning the rainy season in Pattaya :
