  2. I think you are right, but it would be interesting to know from the 'horses mouth' such things as, why is the online appointment system sometimes full immediately it opens after midnight?

I guess it will just remain one of life's little mysteries.

To answer your question, possibly it's a matter of there being many more expats requiring this service, than there are Immigration staff and office space to handle the work-load.

I'm sure Chiang Mai Immigration have statistics at hand, but it's a matter on convincing the decision makers in BKK, be they Immigration seniors or politicians.

    Data might be:

Number of expats requiring 90 day reports. (more than doubled in the past 24 months)

Actual working days in that 90 days.

Number of staff processing on-line requests.

I'm sorry but I have absolutely no idea how this answers my question or is even related to it.

I thought this might have been obvious.

It's directly related to your question in that I'm suggesting Immigration look at their statistics and see why on-line bookings are immediately filled as soon as they're opened.

There is obviously a demand for these services, and so more appointment slots need to be made available.

unfortunally the only answer to slots being filled on line at midnight,is financial gain,by all parties involved in this visa procedure, human nature being what it is your never going to stop a system were palms are being greased, with no comeback or fear of being disciplined or question on ones actions,

  3. have the most respect and admiration for the staff at chaing mai immigration went yesterday for ext of stay had booked appointment at 13-30 went to desk at 13-15 showed my queue number staff took me in straight away sat me next to officer in nice chairs she was waiting for a very old elderally lady who had come unprepaired she had to go out twice to get stuff photo printed and was in a right twiss, the iceing on the cake was when she asked female for her tele number not a clue out again to find tele number,no wonder they like agents if that's a snap shot at what they have to put up with, she dealt with me in about 10mins including photos, but I had to wait over a hour to get passport back,

  4. many thanks to nancy for her efforts and tireless work in trying to improve the lot for some of the older expats in chiang mai.nice to see some one caring for the less agile in the community.keep up the good work love,

    Any comments regarding immigration's presentation?

What did you learn from it?

never read it not really of interest to me,but im sure it was of benefit to the expat community of a whole,tv comments on a large varity of subjects suffice for me,or the answers by some of the very knowledgeable members do.

  5. Yes, I'm British, and did this recently.

Just go to the embassy in the morning with your bank statements in your name (originals), or in the cases of E-Statements Barclays told me I could print them out after downloading them and treat them as originals.

As long as it's all in order, there's a special form in the embassy to fill in, and you come back to collect after 2.30.

Why are bank statements necessary ? Shouldn't the letter from the Gov. pension people be enough,it tells you how much pension you are getting ?

Moreover, letters from pension providers show gross figures (which are what count in Immigration's reckoning of monthly income), whereas bank statements, of course, only show net figures after the jolly old taxman at HMRC has taken his share. The 20% difference could be critical if net income is hovering around the 65.000 THB minimum requirement and the GBP takes another downward plunge in advance of the General Election on 7 May.

incorrect bank statements show weekly/monthly gross figures, for oap.returns at end of financial year sort out tax,in fact its providers that show net on bank statements.
  6. Does Warm Up have the image of a place for western guys to pick up girls? If so, I guess they would have to be very young guys. I didn't think that happened around Nimmen, except for the Housewives place.

your right there young guys seem to rule a lot now in cnx 5-6 years ago never see a young farang around nimman, or even down town for that matter few back packers about that was it.

  7. Trust me, I'm not at Blar Blar every evening, but I go often enough for them to remember me. I go there because I like the food and eye-candy. I have occasionally seen a "pretty" sitting at a table with a group of heavy drinkers, but to my knowledge it isn't a "buy me a drink handsum man" situation. I've never had one of the young ladies ask me to buy her a drink, which is a shame, I'd happily oblige.

To attract the 'pretties' you fill your table with food.

It's different to foreigner hooker bars.

Yes it is, that was my point. I'm not neglected by the staff, the waitresses do their job quite well. But they don't hustle drinks, and when things are slow and they have time to chat with customers, they favor the young men. That's normal for young ladies who aren't sex workers.

I've usually found they favor the guys with tables full of food, an expensive car outside, and wearing some gold.

Age irrelevant ....... they always look a bit like sex workers to me ..... but not foreigner orientated sex workers.

they don't ask you. you ask them.there doing you a favour not the other way around.its just a pretty sitting with you.and the bar cocktail sales goes up,not sure about them drinking with farang I was introduced by a thai man(ning) and I have been going there for about 4 years even before they done it up and its getting more and more popular now, they have quite a turn over with staff but I have my favourites now.

  8. ^^^ yep, as common office work pays between 12-30K per month in CM, I have found many office types (based on clothing and proximity) go for the open air cheap beer and BBQ. places.

exactly.....they're not doing 200 thb pints of import taxes....they aren't doing 250 thb mini-pizzas.....they will do some Leos/Changs and some Thai snacks. Really not rocket science. Spending a half days pay to go out for a few after work kind of defeats the purpose of going to work.

Where do import pints cost 200 baht? I'm pretty sure they're more than that at HOBs and Beer Republic.

It doesn't matter, I generally avoid the imports because most of the time they taste like they're past their prime. I suspect they are frequently shipped or stored improperly. Sadly I've concluded that when in Thailand I may as well drink the local beer, because the imports are rarely what they should be.

I know, Bruce, but I didn't want people to say I'm dishonest for telling the truth. 250-300.....and according to TA, there are a lot of unhappy campers at those two "elite" places on soi 11......numerous posts about old beer (and not being served properly), poor service, and foreign manager being a J.O.. I wish there was more Tiger around, but a cold, fresh Leo priced less than 7-11 will do me fine.

I think the OP is a little confused about the situation in BKK...incomes are higher, but they are more than offset by somewhat higher COL, And there is a difference between the guys in nice work clothes and the girls in work clothes. One is finished; the other is starting.

if you go to club café on soi 7 they do a jug of draft tiger for 180bht,and if you go to the bar right across from the Maldives they do 3 tiger 199bht

  9. to hey bruce answer about cocktails, you don't drink them the serving girls do,nice little earner for them and depending on your flirting skills who noes.

Are you sure that works at Blar Blar Bar? I've never had one of their staff ask me to buy her or drink, or noticed them hustling drinks from other customers.

you obviously don't drink at blar blar bar then, but if u do just look at the staff sitting with customers, drinking cocktails,in fact I think its quie common among the young thai men, and some of the japenese customers to have staff sitting and drinking with them,
