  1. OP, do you have connections with the BIB? Last night at the intersection of Huay Kaew and Bunrueang Rit (right before KSK) just 1 km from where the OP will be filming, there was a huge police block (about 10-15 cops!) stopping every other motor bike (the worst traffic offenders in Thailand, imo). I think I saw tea money being exchanged right then and there, or, to be fair, "trying" to be exchanged.

Unless the BIB reads ThaiVisa and they were "pre-emptying" the OP, so to speak smile.png

I say good for them. Thailand would solve its fiscal problems if they git only 1/3 of the motor bike offenders.

there on duty at that venue most nights of the week,Good laugh watchingthe antics of thais trying to evade the road block
  2. OP don't be disheartened by some of the comments here. Go to the intersection of Thipanet and Mahidol and start filming away. And don't worry, the offenders will not shoot you, not if it's daylight. Maybe try to run you over but not shoot you.

While you're at it, can you also a start a petition for Thai people to stop treating any area starting from a radius of 2 feet outside their place of residence or work as the "great garbage-dump outdoors"? After all, scientific research found that Thailand has the highest number of rats per capita and that cannot be a coincidence.

To other readers, fill in your own "beef" in paragraph 2.

    I sense this is sarcasm.

On Friday afternoon we will be taking GoPro footage of red light runners at the Nimmahaeimin & Huay Kaew intersection if the weather is on our side. Will will also be setting up youtube channel shortly where the footage will be upled.

were something quite bright so I wont miss you

    wont miss you

  3. typical American attitude to the natives why are they not treating my like royalty after all im a bigoted white American, with more money than you,i deserve respect and first class service, TIT.its there country and its you who should be giving them respect,

Your attitude is incredibly arrogant! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Also, you contribute NOTHING to the topic.

thank you for your nice compliements made my day/week,appreciate that keep the kudos coming.
  4. I wasn't just talking about lack of respect toward white people, but customers in general. The clerks at Tops and Rim Ping used to wai and place bags in the carts for everyone, not just us foreign customers.

And yes, I speak Thai, but my accent is bad. I read the language much better and basically Hubby and I were "helping ourselves" in the appliance shop by reading the Thai signs to compare products. It was interesting that the young clerks weren't making eye contact and certainly weren't following us around like they used to. When I tried to talk with one in Thai to ask a question, he just ran off and got the manager. No attempt to try to figure out what I was saying. Again, this is an indication of a decline in service level. Used to be that you got "extra credit" for initiating a conversation in the Thai language and sales clerks would take the time to figure out your question. They didn't flee from you!

bet your American slang is worse than your so called thai speak, no wonder they run a mile away from you, though to be honest they don't like being helpful, because they don't speak English well enough, And they don't like to lose face.in front of there work mates,
  5. No, he's right. There's been a change just in the past five years. Everything has become much more busy. Little touches of service have disappeared. Small stuff, but it adds up. For the most part, they no longer put your bags into your cart at Tops. The cashiers at Rim Ping often don't give that pretty little wai when they hand you your change. (The cashiers at Tops always were a little lazy about this).

When you go into the TV or household goods area of Central Dept store you can wander for hours and no one hovers, pointing to the item you're looking at making "helpful" observations like "blue" or "on-off". This used to annoy me, but now I miss it. The other day we went to Power Buy (part of the Central group) to purchase a clothes washing machine, same thing where Hubby and wandered around the store looking at every clothes washer (it should have been evident we were serious shoppers) and when we finally found someone who would make eye contact they had to go find the store manager to locate someone able to understand our poor attempts at Thai. Apparently he was the only one in the store who spoke English. Used to be more staff in places like this spoke English or at least made an attempt.

It's as if everyone is busier, more adsorbed in their phones, maybe studying Chinese now instead of English. I don't know. But there's definitely a different vibe.

  6. "service which used to be very personable has dropped a notch here with the younger generations seemingly unwilling to go the extra mile or perhaps just tired from the crowds we are seeing these days,"

the younger generation is totally useless and brain dead for the most part, faces glued to mobiles, reading shallow worthless garbage. you go in somewhere to do business and 80% of the time they don't want to put down the mobile and do the job they are getting paid to do.

i went to a friend's pharmacy last week. he wasn't in but had a girl there who i assume was a recent CMU graduate based upon her uniform. she was the only one in and had her earplugs in, watching something on her iPhone, laughing. there were 2 customers; me and a woman. she failed to notice either of us standing at the counter and we could not get her attention because the earplugs. the woman walked out. i rang my friend on his mobile as i stood there and told him the situation. he thanked me and said he saw the same thing when he came in the day before. she was fired a day or two later.

sincerely hope karma comes to bite you back one day, pathetic farang should be ashamed of your self.
  7. I sometime wonder what people want out of life, chiang mai is not utopia but then tell me were is that is cheap good food, warm weather, inexpensive drinks, female or male company on tap international airport in town, get away quick if want Transport 24 hours a day very cheap.and if you want a wat, there is hundreds around.should start a blog on the good things in los.

  8. Moomi

I had a similar charge when transfering funds from my UK bank (Loyds) to an account in China. On arrival the funds had a further £20 charged for the transfer. Lloyds charges were £10 and like the Bangkok Bank the Chinese bank did not charge for receiving transfers. The charge turned out to be a handling fee by a bank in HK which was used as an intermediary and they charged £20.

Also when I was last in the UK I heard about the HSBC only charging £4 for a transfer so I went to them thinking to open an account so I could take advantage of this cheap transfer charge.. However on investigation I found out that the funds to Thailand would be sent via their branch in HK and the same handling charge would be applied. Very naughty of the banks not to explain to you about these extra charges. Just another way of robbing you.

I have this week transfered funds from my UK Loyds account (trying to save it from the effects of Brexit) to Kasikorn bank. There were no extra charges. I suggest you change your UK bank for transfers.

incorrect information very misleading, The last 3 transfers from account in hsbc uk to Thailand has only cost me 4 pound in charges, transfer done near enough straight away, never taken more than 3 days to receive transfer.i only have a current account with hsbc.
  9. Hmm, several other sources say that they've started using it at both locations in CM, plus at the airport when you apply for a re-entry permit. That's the real value of this forum, to secure first-hand accounts -- not simply to speculate. Especially now that they don't permit "observers" to come out and watch what's going on at the office while sitting a distance away on mall property. whistling.gif

How would immigration know that people hanging around in the mall are specifically there to spy on them? Do they have specially trained sniffer dogs or radar? And for that matter, who would want to? I could have more fun watching wet paint dry on a plank.

I was there only a few days ago to do my 90 day report, whole progress told 3 minutes, didn`t even bother collecting a number. This was at 2.30 in afternoon time, must have just got lucky I guess. If there would have been queues I would have - gone next door to the G4t, where for only 300 baht I`ve never waited more then 10 minutes before - cyberfarang rapper version.

Don`t know who or what your sources are but all I did was handed over my completed photo copies and passport, was not handed a dreaded how many times do I make love a week and who with or what bars do I drink at form.

What day were you there? Specifically? Did you stick around long enough to see if others were handed the form? (They may not be giving it to everyone) What about people doing re-entry permits? Were they given the form? Did you watch the morning queueing process? How many retirees were given queue numbers and did they received the Foreign National Info form.

This is all info that someone "trained" as an observer would have looked for. Immigration has a a good idea if someone is "really" watching them or just a regular customer like yourself walking in to take care of business and and not observing what other customers are doing.

methinks your getting more and more paranoid about this immigration procudures.not a healthy obsession.ps how is nj
  10. Apparently, no one on this forum actually went to the meeting yesterday. I find that very interesting. Instead they choose to "follow" the club by reading the e-newsletter and commenting from afar.

Speaking of interesting, everyone who heard yesterday's program speaker said she was one of the most interesting ever. Well worth the price of admission.

was that the speaker,Commenting on criminals in thai jails,Funny how that appeals to any ones logic.birds of a feather, Come to mind.
