How to retire in Thailand
GreasyFingers replied to CharlieH's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Tell me about it. Had to leave a storm up here (temperature dropped 10C to 25C) to drive down to the city in the afternoon. -
Wise to Krungthai
GreasyFingers replied to Gecko's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Try OFX, they quote a set rate that you can accept or not. THB is sent and my bank (KBank) deduct their own fees about 0.15%. But overall the rate received is not much different to KBank quoted TT rate. But your home bank might also have fees with a direct SWIFT transfer. -
PM unveils plans to build world's tallest building (video)

This is a sign of desperation. Many past failing governments/economies have looked to create the biggest something or other. Not a good sign for Thailand. -

Phuket car rentals must verify tourist driving licenses
GreasyFingers replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Yes, something wrong here. Always just used my OZ license as there is a recipricol agreement between Thailand and OZ (NSW at least). When I hire a car back in OZ I use my Thai license and has always been accepted. -
We provide bananas for the bulbuls who can be a bit fussy if we do not slit them open so they do not need to go through the skin. They love the bird bath as well. The problem is keeping the mafia (myrnar) birds away but they can see me coming through darkened glass windows and insect screens. Amazing eye sight.

Stormy forecast: Thailand braces for thunder, wind, and hail
GreasyFingers replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Still waiting up here as the storms are going up the Phetchabun valley, not the highlands. At least the temperature dropped a couple of degrees today. -

Well, who would have known there was money in smuggling coconuts. -
Happy-Go-Lucky Australia Is Feeling Neither Happy, Nor Lucky

The source of the article was the NYT. what would they know about OZ. As has been stated the cost of everything has gone crazy according to friends and family back there. The current housing/rental problems are a direct result of the immigration policy. You cannot have 20000 come into the country every month and not have a problem, it is impossible to build that amount of accommodation. -
You are an idiot if you think you can cut that stuff with plastic. The OP still does not have the right blade to cut that stuff, he needs one similar to a circular saw and even then it is difficult. That advice from years of experience As to getting rid of that type, it is like cane, not grass when it grows, all of the roots need to be dug out and there will still be some left that sprout again.

Cataract Operation - Good to know information?
GreasyFingers replied to ravip's topic in Health and Medicine
If yo pay 200K you have too much money. There are many that range from 30k to 60K. Just make sure you ask plenty of questions on how many the surgeon does. If he is not doing them weekly find some one else. I have had one go wrong by an inexperienced doctor but the second one was no problem by a doctor that was doing them nearly every day. -

You are right with this. The wife is normally happy to display the farang husband but I have been advised to step lightly for the time being.
