I thought Obama's election didn't overly concern most conservatives I knew. They definitely didn't vote for him the second go around but I didn't sense hatred. Bill brought much more loathing to the forefront. What I felt started this whole extreme divisiveness was the election of Trump. Democrats and many independents like myself were butt hurt and determined to let everybody know how despicable Trump is on almost every level. I got over it in a couple months, after losing a good friend over the election, and now just put into the basket of things that will never be understood.

OK - feel better now. Really not interested at calling the other team names and being childish. As for calling Trump names, fair game to as far as I'm concerned. It seems half of what comes out of his mouth are petty insults and most of the other rubbish is nonsense. I'll give him some credit though - he does possess a good sense of humor and some of his political believes seem sound. The woke culture the last 4 years almost had me thinking I would voter for the creep but realized I was being a fool yet again.

Lots of faith in Vegas odds. The same Vegas that had Clinton winning. Hope they are right this time around...

He is correct about the witch hunt and you are correct that he is a criminal. Many righteous fools on this thread would do similar things to cover up an affair if they had the means to do so. We all make big mistakes but Trump does seem not to care about consequences. He just found out he isn't bullet proof. Amazed the idiot was ever elected but this conviction and the amount of money spent on the case weren't warranted. He should have simply paid the hush money from his personal account ( most of it was) and labeled the transactions with Stormy as non-disclosure payments and his payments to Cohen labeled as reimbursement payments. He foolishly didn't and prosecutors have taken a misdemeanor and through a legal maze created a felony. As for all the other past cases and future legal transgressions, this latest conviction diminishes their relevance IMO. Hope he isn't our next President but also hope an election is the reason.

atpeace reply: You seem like the type that loses it over small altercations. Chill dude - I simply disagree. There were at least 4 bouncers and two Farangs. Should have they separated and chose two bouncers to confront the Farangs? Have you ever been in the middle of a violent brawl? This was not that bad. When you have extra limbs to throw they are much more likely to connect with the faces of the disadvantage party. From what I see it ended OK and the Farangs are probably out drinking already. Odd thread! You have people that should be paying taxes but are not and trying to verify if they can still get away with not paying taxes. Many of the other posters that at worst will have to file a tax return but pay no taxes haven't even skimmed the new regs and somehow have drawn hilarious conclusions based on what? The search for answers has only increased the anxiety level of xpats.

Your post I was replying to was in regards to digital nomads. If a tax return was audited and a home country return asked for to to show taxes were paid on income it would be easily verifiable if taxes were paid. Can you lie and claim no income to both countries - yes. The odds of being caught are probably slim but not impossible. I personally wouldn't do it but up to you. It is harder these days not to leave digital evidence of income made throughout the world but I'm sure those in the know have good methods to evade taxes.

If you reported the income to your home country, you are correct. If you are dodging taxes you are taking a minimal risk. If the tax rev department audits your return and ask for your home country's return to verify the income was reported, it would end badly. This is what revenue departments do and taxes and penalties would be due. Odds of this happening? Even in the USA an audit is rare but the consequences can be dire. I just pay what is required like an honest citizen and have no worries. I have done many questionable things but tax avoidance is not one of them.

Exactly. This fear is strange. I have some slight reservations but don't see any issue with the new tax law. The implementation will be difficult in my opinion but I could be wrong. Thailand isn't trying to tax saving brought into Thailand and this is explicitly stated. How they will tax income brought into Thailand after 2024 will be interesting but not a concern for me. I could live here for many decades of what I have in savings that were taxed already and as the new regs state will not be taxed. Why all the fear about a nothing burger?

OK, clearly a nut job. Sweden is one of the highest taxed countries in the world. I didn't say everything should be paid for by taxes. Strange logic or lack of perspective you possess. I don't like taxes but am logical enough to understand their need.

Again, as I have said earlier in this looooooooong post, what about those that do not need to register for a TIN or make tax returns for whatever reason? It is not quite as clear cut as you describe about waking up to. Any thoughts like that need a lot of thinking about before any implementation can even be considered. Delete this post immediately. Yes most those roads existed because of taxes. History isn't your strength. You do know there are types of taxes other than income? Free market does provide a lot but not everything. It also provides an abundance of corruption left to its own devices. I get it - the tax system isn't perfect. Still waiting on you to provide the alternative.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I myself think we should all pay taxes and you feel society would be better off with no taxes because the system is corrupt. You may be right but still waiting for your answer. How does this tax less society function? I would love to live in a place where no taxes were due and magically everything paid for by taxes still existed.

For someone that has repeatedly stated we don't know how the regs will be implemented, you sure seem to know many of the specifics. Fear is much worse than the eventual reality for you and many. Something to be said about the "no fear" cliché. calm down and realize you are endlessly chasing your tail. The new regs are simply a justifiable attempt to tax people that aren't paying taxes. I pay all taxes that are due and therefore "most likely" will not have to pay ANY new taxes. New regs( not new mostly) might have some unintended consequences but losing my shttt over it isn't going to make my existence any better. For the honest, it usually works out well in the end and for those that are not, it might end poorly.

Let me summarize the thousands of pages on this subject. There might be stricter enforcement of tax laws that apply to tax residents. This won't impact to savings prior to 2024 nor will it apply to savings after 2024 if taxes were paid in your home country. So basically a tax return might be required and no taxes due for 99.99% of xpats here. the rest of this thread is driven by anxiety and I would bet Thais reading this thread are laughing at us pissing ourselves. I know I am 🙂

SO true and people just don't get it. Our home countries have many xpats filing taxes but for some reason this shouldn't apply to Thailand. Everybody needs to chill. The odds of this being a minor inconvenience with no taxes paid here in Thailand are extremely high. The new enforcement is to go after tax dodgers which are mostly Thai but we probably all know an xpat that isn't paying taxes and uses Thailand's loose tax tax enforcement to do this. They still won't pay and probably won't have issues which is frustrating. Depending on the country, tax avoidance was and probably will be the reason some choose to live here. As I stated on the first few pages of the first thread on this issue. This is going to impact a few xpats and possibly millions of Thais.

There will be no impact for 99% foreigners is my bet. This article is just click bait and it worked. If you are a tax resident and do have income that isn't covered by tax agreements and as well have never paid taxes on the income then taxes should be paid . Some xpats here aren't paying taxes in Thailand nor their home country. They probably still won't claim the income and won't face any consequences. My hope is they do. One inconvenience is that IMO we will have to file which is a hassle but not unfair. At least AN posters might stop bickering about the easy 90 day reports and realize just how good we have it here in regards to visa regs. Most countries already require this and Thailand is now one of those countries. It will be bumpy during the rollout but confident the rev department will figure it out.

Thai bro in law has one of these. He is a lawyer that travels across the country every week chasing legal fees. Spending 30k on gas some months was the reason for the purchase. In his case, if it lasts a few years and he can sell for 200k he did well consider the fuel savings. I hope it works out for him. I'm an interested onlooker...

I do like the look of many of the EV's on the road from China but would never buy one now. I'll keep my truck and hopefully in 5 years there will be data showing that these cars are durable. I have my serious doubts and the China rep for making beautiful copies but with terrible tech under the hood is a major concern. Regardless, IMO EV's are the future and only hope I can confidently buy one years down the road. I have a feeling the current buyers are going to have terrible let downs.

But the unconscious man was moving. Think you might be adding a exorbitant level of drama to reality. If an unconscious man was kicked in the face, the person doing the kicking should face some terrible consequences. I just see a violent altercation and not too much else. Really can't make any sound deductions. Does anyone have a link to the video where I can see this unconscious man being kicked in the face?
