  1. How does that work? Seen many one to many and never witnessed the many stop to elect the person to fight. In the real world, fights are rarely one to one. We Farangs are the minority here and hence the natural consequence of us fighting many Thais. Same would happen in Mexico, Columbia....
  2. From that same poll from Echelon Insights poll being discussed. At least they have a better sense of humor than 90% of you all. "58% OF LIKELY VOTERS SAY DONALD TRUMP WOULD PERFORM BETTER IN A HOT DOG EATING CONTEST, WHILE 13% SAY THE SAME FOR BIDEN." Their website link ( https://echeloninsights.com/in-the-news/apr2024-verified-voter-omnibus/. It's obvious that those polled think Biden is a terrible President but the alternative is somehow worse.
  3. Agreed! Lots of fools above that have too much time on their hands to hate. Ironic they are calling other posters idiots... IMO, both guys will keep running up the debt at an almost exponential pace and hope that the consequences wont materialize while they're President.
  4. Did you just arrive to Thailand? Nice little story about Thais you created. I wonder what all those sexy women that cater to Farangs are doing with Thai men when they aren't working. Maybe there just friends and they can't wait for the their Farang to satisfy them.
  5. Many do and have fun at your expense. Most don't care at all. You're deluding yourself IMO. In the end though, you obviously don't care and that is what matters. Curious, don't have to answer of course, how is this relationship of yours? Do you enjoy each other? I have a friend in a similar situation for the last 20 years and they seem to get along well and spend a lot of time together. Their sex life from the little that is shared is also good. He isn't rich but has more money than most here and is still a good looking dude at 70. I think his relationship is the exception and far from the norm.
  6. I think you can figure that out. Camera clip is the first hint. I rarely get too worked up in public and definitely refrain from bashing someone's character without knowing really what transpired. That's how I roll and I don't need to bring someone else down to feel important. The bar girls could have politely asked him to pay and he lashed out or the girls got aggressive, as I have seen many times, and this is a clip of what happened after that aggression. Got it - 🙂
  7. It odd how there is wide disparity of how posters view Thais. No idea who actually has the correct perspective but interesting. You see Thais as repressed and I see them as the most social culture I've experienced. Wish I spoke Thai like yourself but my hobbies make it easy to put off and it is extremely difficult for me to hear the tones.
  8. do you stick it in their face and then read the translation. This would be entertaining to watch but if it works for you it must be possible.
  9. Odds are greatly in favor of the girls attacking him first for not paying the bill and him defending himself. Seen this countless times in Thailand. Many nice bar girls but ignoring that many are desperate and can be hostile isn't reality. That is how many handle confrontations and also bar owners support this behavior in many cases. I've never had a physical confrontation because in the end the 400 baht or a 3k bill isn't worth it. His breaking point of a few hundred baht seems low.
  10. You sad 4..k! A sad 4..K but at least he has a good sense of humor without that he would be quite pathetic. Looks like karma has been hard on him the last year so probably deserves the right to be grumpy.
  11. Remember thinking this 27 years ago after arriving here to tour Thailand on a pedal bike. Just finished up with doing 6 months in Mexico and struggling with the complexities of Spanish. I was completely wrong! 27 years later (20 spent hear), I speak less Thai than the Spanish I learned in a few months. Can you hear the different tones? How does a person that is tone deaf learn Thai?
  12. Why would they be put off by it? I think you are just seeing the situation through a distorted perspective. I have known many x-pats that speak fluent Thai and get along with the locals great. I also live in a three language area and have no clue how picking Thai as the chosen dialect would be an issue as you seem to think it would be. Just be honest. You probably don't have the mental energy to pick up Thai. You are satisfied with your probably mundane life in the sticks and hence create a story that works for you. It is far from reality though...
  13. Just noticed this was posted years ago - oops. Anxiety issues? I had my first bout with this in 50 years when the lock down started and as luck would have it, everything else seemed to be falling apart that was unrelated to Covid. Started worrying about things that were inconsequential. Uncertain times? Be fortunate you haven't experienced truly uncertain times and you are living in a world where you have the luxury to spend your days making frivolous posts which unlike many, I find entertaining. Charlies fridge pic above looks great but i would pack it with things I shouldn't be eating. We live in a country where daily shopping is easy. fresh meats and produce usually a 5 minute journey. I myself shop every few days and the GF hits the markets and new dedicated meet shops that are first class IMO. my 305 liter fridge is more than enough but that's just me.
  14. I did myself and think it was OCD. How many cycling accidents are caused by what is behind vs in front ? I just went through the exercise of reflecting on my accidents. 100% were caused by things in front.
  15. Off topic but most Thais run with traffic. I'm an avid runner and this blows my mind. Don't they want to see the cars that drive on the shoulders before they are crippled or die.
  16. I road with a fast group while in Pattaya and they were insane. Don't want to name names but they were testosterone freaks and death found them soon enough after my last ride with them. Groups are safer as you stated. Having fun responsibly and enjoying some coffee is a nice day out cycling.
  17. That is a major problem. There is a pecking order and it goes by size. Motorcyclist are expected to to avoid cars that merge into traffic and cyclists have even fewer road rights in reality. Why would cyclists ride side by side here is mind boggling. To many die here in Thailand. Sure it is legal but the reaper doesn't care. I drive past cyclists doing the craziest things and it stresses me out.
  18. Might feel like it but it isn't. Cycled all over Thailand and more than 12k annually. in 2015 after a near fatal accident ( extremely painful ) which was my third in Thailand that I broke at least 1 bone, I vowed to never to ride again. Cycling in any country is dangerous because of random dangerous variables. In Thailand the dangerous variables are substantially higher. Monkeys, dogs, drunk motorcyclists, Chinese tourists that like to take pictures on road bends, random road work without signage.... Pattaya roads are probably safer than the mountain roads where I had almost all my bad accidents. If you're the type that can control your ego and not push the speeds and isn't erratic in traffic then maybe it can be done safely.
  19. Where are you pooping? The Mekhong river is 50 meters away from me so it would be better than most. I've had a few nightmares of water and electric being cut simultaneously and woke up sobbing.
  20. My ex the last few years of the not so wonderous 20 years we were together was always complaining about the AC. Partly my fault caused my witty budget plan. 25k-30K(can't remember) was put in an account each month for household and food outlays and the remainder at the end of the month could use as she pleased. Figured she would be more thrifty which she was but only on what negatively impacted me. I ditched the plan when one day she started complained about my excessive plain( no raisons or other nice tidbits) oatmeal consumption. Tried to explain to her that this was similar to a Thai complaining about rice consumption. After the failed attempt I decided to look for another woman that wouldn't restrict my "plain" oatmeal consumption and with the bar set low had no problem finding that woman. The moral of the story was forgotten somewhere after the first sentence and I'm to lazy to delete the final two paragraphs.
  21. Not the Thais in my area or for that matter in the places I've lived the last 25 years. I have heard what you stated many times on this forum but never have i seen it. Out of the thousands of Thais I've been around, I would think I would have noticed this excessive showering. I myself am an excessive shower type and you are right - it is refreshing. I'm currently at number 2 and expect to be at 3-4 before sunset.
  22. Same goes for federal debt. If politicians reduced debt the economy would most likely crater and re-elections odds also would crater. One of the few flaws of a democracy. The world is going to ride this debt wave until it crashes and I have no idea when that will happen and I'm not 100% sure it will. People seem tired of discussing the consequences of debt when there seems to be only positive results especially for the upper 25%.
  23. I could Definately survive but it would a major sacrifice. My wife rarely complains and prefers to do her thing outside in the shade. She tells me it is hot but at the same time seems very happy. Maybe it is a state of mind thing...
  24. How long have you lived here? 99% of the Thais don't have AC in my area but I have a unit in every room. I wonder if I could adjust? Doubt it and the cool air hitting my chest as I type is wonderful. I ran on the track near my home at 8am and that was sweltering and couldn't imagine going back to my home to experience more of the same. You are tougher than me!
  25. Why do that when you can simply insult the Thai race and show your superiority. I doubt any countries citizens are any better or worse than Thais but the circumstances vary greatly between countries. Poor and desperate people are more likely to kill than wealthier individuals.
