  1. Thanks guys, I over heard a conversation in which this guy was using a FX agent. There are no fees involved and you buy the the thai baht at the current spot price. this is like a trading account for spot currency. This is what I am hoping to find.

I am getting funds from Canada.

    Thank you

One time over THB 25000, use TTransfer.

Many times, with THB 25000 limit per day, use Bank card in a Thai ATM. Small fee is worth good management per day.

  2. 1.  Tell main gf about crazy woman trying to stay.  If main gf can not take this news, time to move on from her, too.

    2.  If main gf sees it to her benefit, then just send main gf to take second woman out.  She will enjoy it.

Anytime possible in Thailand, always use a Thai to solve your problems.  Work WITH Thai, not against them.

Typists on this venue whine about how hard their lives are here and never seem to just turn problem over to a Thai, make solution worth the Thai's effort, and stand back and relax.

Let the practicality of this culture work FOR you.

  3. NES I talk to got a teaching job the day they applied, degree or not, skills or not.  I don't know if they got a Work Permit.

The demand for NES is so high, a guy with your degree should be TEACHING TEACHERS.  The really bad thing about all Thailand education is the fact that teaching is an art and a skill.  Knowing how to weld and effectively teaching welding are two different things.  Walk-in NES hired in desperation to get a warm body is not hiring a TEACHER necessarily.

Further, I think I could sustain the argument that teaching Thai people is very different from teaching Americans.  The differences do necessitate a change in many techniques that need to be learned, ideally, prior to entering a classroom.

  4. To be blunt, it is difficult to control a foreigner population if you do not know where they live.

A 30dayer in/out need not report a real place to stay, ever.

Every nation has the right to control its borders and to know where non-citizens stay or live.  It is basic for all nations I have heard about.  USA tries vainly to do same.

All this is mostly about being able to find you.  It also explains the 90day ADDRESS REPORT, which is what that is really.

You should be able to think of many reasons any nation wants to keep track of foreigners.

Ask why would a person enjoying Thailand hospitality want to DISAPPEAR into the nation?  That is, not exist via NO visa of any kind.  What is the advantage?  Why should Thailand want that kind of foreigner here?

  5. With a string of REAL tourist visas, many, you still should be safe and between the place u get the visa and the airline allowing you to fly in, you have huge assurance all will be ok.

Meanwhile, upon entry every time, LOOK LIKE A TOURIST, not a biz man nor a backpacker.  Have ready answers;  look bored;  look respectable.  Wear a mali.

Immigration's job is to treat every entering person INDIVIDUALLY;  that is why some can report variations in application of rules.  This is normal, so do not give the agent any reason to doubt you.

"So, why are you coming back so soon??"  Answer, "I did not get to pray at ...name... wat and my monk told me to do that."

  6.

my understanding was that starting on August 29th you will be able to extend a Visa on Arrival (airport stamp) for 30days while in Thailand.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/744440-longer-visa-exemption-extensions-begin-august-29-2014/

its not a visa on arrival and that will give you one extension for a total of 60 days. you mentioned two extensions. why not just get a tourist visa?

Right, I see the confusion. I tried just now to edit my post to make it clearer but it seems I cannot.

Over the next year I will only need to be in Bangkok longer than 30 days on two separate occasions, and in those instances my stay will be less than 60 days, so extending my Visa Exemption seems to be the path of least resistance.

I certainly am no opposed to getting a Tourist Visa outside of Thailand, but that would be a lot more effort than simply getting a stamp in the airport. Of course, if it would be better for Thai Immigration getting a Tourist Visa isn't that much work.

For example: Arrive in BKK, stay 20 days, fly to Turkey for two weeks, return to BKK, stay 28 days, extend visa exemption, fly to the Philippines for two weeks, fly to BKK, stay 25 days, fly to Canada/US for two months, fly to BKK, stay in BKK 28 days, extend visa exemption, fly to Iceland for two weeks... etc etc etc

Just get a real visa and relax.  The 30day visa-exempt, called visa exemption etc... NOT VISA ON ARRIVAL.... is not for you and now or eventually you will get caught and refused entry.  Do not look for a future date when this clamp down will stop.  It is as permanent as human nature can make it.  The policy is in place.... get addresses on all foreigner inside Thailand to answer international pressure re criminals hiding here, illegal activity conducted here, surrogate moms here with foreigners, and all the other legitimate reasons a nation has to control its borders and who can stay within.   Today policies are normal;  policies under Thaksin were, like him, abnormal.

  7. 1. wrong breed.

    2. you did not become his leader early on so now he owns you.

    3. too late to effectively train even if you spent 4 hrs a day on it.

    4. other dogs will not attack him except he is putting out FIGHT signals so will have the other dogs fight also.

    5. Get the kind of collar that has claws to dig into his throat for leading him, keep it up as high on his neck as possible and give it a sharp yank at the very earliest sign of aggression.

    6. NEVER allow him to walk in front of you.

    7. Never allow him to get close to the back of people or animals; this is GS fav attack direction, from the blind side, the back, just like the German army.

You have an unregistered deadly weapon. You are lucky he has not gotten a child by the throat; he would love to do that. Don't blame him for his breed's millions of years of being selectively bred to do just what he does best... guard and attack with no quarter given.

I was owned by a GS from which I learned all these hard facts. If you slack off on this animal one tiny bit, which you have already done, you and he are doomed.

Oh, forget electric shocking collars; he won't care at all.

  8. Yes the last few months she has been pushing me up to 20,000 with numerous reasons as to why she needs more.

Think partly because her mother / sister want her to go to 'work' and she has started complaining about how much 'bad' girls in her village get.

One girl is getting 50,000 (from a farrang who wants to take her abroad) she says (despite being fat and having a Thai husband who she lives with) and

lots of stories about how she doesn't ask for big money 30,000 or 40,000.

Then lots of stories about what farrang boyfriends / husbands have done for other girls in her village.

I fear she may be turning into that monster!

For that location with you paying for rent/housing and health care directly, consider this.....

Compute the household expenses for electric, water, food, etc etc and give her that plus 10,000. Tell her if the expenses come in under the total given her, she keeps the difference, and if the expenses come over, she is to pay that from "her" 10,000.

This teaches budgeting and cost care.

If a girl is leveraging your amount against what "girls who work at night" make, you sadly have the wrong girl. In that case, I can only send you sympathy.

  9. I dealt with this matter of recruiting foreign students to study in Thailand for six years in the top Thailand university. It is significantly difficult because no foreigner wants a Thai degree; maybe a junior year abroad, but even then not here unless it is in Thai studies and language (there are better Asian studies elsewhere). Thailand is thought of as a vacation and fun place so parents are reluctant to place their children here (the English name for Krung Thep does not help people think this is a serious study place).

Even a little research shows that the places in the world who hire high achieving graduates are deeply suspicious of the QUALITY and depth of Thai universities, not to mention the smaller colleges and for-profit places. Teaching here showed me that a Thai B.A. is like a USA fifth year of high school at most. I had to water down my USA-formulated courses by about 60% and that owning and reading BOOKS (gasp!) was the rare exception. Even the most serious, diligent student here is dragged down by the cavalier attitude predominating.

Overwhelmingly significant changes would have to be instituted to change this matter. I found no Thai university administrator even aware of, much less desiring upgrading, this problem.

  10. 90day can be renewed by anyone with your signed paper.  If you can no longer handle a pen, you shudda made a rubber stamp of your signature years ago.  One yr renewals likely need a relative of yours to talk for a renewal with you not physically present.

Bumrungrad Hospital can not be the only care-place that has immigration staff to help.

Point is, prepare now for a time when many of us will be too weak or out of it to do the paper ourselves.  It is not impossible to make your senility plans now and have them to work later.

Stop thinking Thailand owes you health and so on during senility;  it does not and why should it?  It is working right now to move out visitors who have not arranged for means to stay here.  These are facts and are the complete right of the nation to decide these policies.  No one owes you anything !

  11. After living here for ten years I am starting to share the OPs concerns. Not only with immigration but in general things look pretty bleak for old people who are often just locked up and tolerated rather than really cared for.

Traditionally in Thailand young people felt it was their unquestionable duty to care for their aged relatives but this is changing fast. At least in some western countries this change has already led to commercial ventures supported by government to provide professional care.

Here there is next to nothing unless you are terminally ill (and you have money).

Is it wrong for me to say compassion is not big in this part of the world?

Yes, it is wrong for you to say that.  This is one of the most compassionate places on Earth.  That may not be enough for you who thinks he has ENTITLEMENT.  Thai expect a person to look ahead if he has no automatic old person care lined up and get it.  Wife's Thai papa lay bed ridden for 2+ yrs and everyone from Momma to daughters to young children helped with him....... baths, wiping, whatever needed.  This is the Thai way among real Thai with little money and big hearts.

If a guy is an old man living alone, he is in a world of hurt here.  If that is the prospect coming, get out to your native land where govt care likely kicks in for you.  For most, Thailand is NOT for you.

  12. The bigger worry would be that after living here for 25 of 30 years and being on a fixed pension that with a stroke of a pen you would need 1.5 or 2 million baht in a bank to stay on a retirement or marriage visa, please don't start with if you don't have enough money you should not be here, i'm talking when you are 70 plus and your home is Thailand.

I don't understand......... how did that person stay here before retirement?  WP?

P.S. you nor none of us foreigners LIVE HERE.  We are not permanent residents, very few are;  we are guest workers or just documented aliens.  Don't forget it.

Why in the world do people come to believe that just by sleeping in same place for years ENTITLES them to special treatment by the Thai govt.???

  13. Red China's violent theft of Tibet and subsequent tyrannical murdering domination of those peaceful people has added another disgrace as Red China is moving as much of their population into Tibet as possible.  The extra Han Chinese young men, born to forced one-child families (female babies less desirable and thus killed and organs sold), are told that the Tibetan women are hot and off to Tibet this surplus value groups go.  Tibetan culture also is destroyed.

Thai should keep this infiltration of occupiers happens, too, with a new railway.  The Tibet pattern of this train tells Thailand just what to expect.  Of course, Thailand will not need to be machine gunned;  it will simply be purchased at bargain prices.

  14. The more money you spend, the better the machine, surprise. The German brands are best.

The two tub top loaders are there to say one has a washing machine, minimal and lots of human interaction needed.

Front loader is standard world wide for house use.

None will spin the clothes really DRY. Usually get to the no drip stage only.

For your needs, you should get a laundry to do it. Maybe even pick up and deliver.

Thailand is NOT a DIY nation. Be like Toyota and hire the local cheap labor and relax your mind.

  15. Lordeee....... $1600 to $3000 USD per MONTH ???   Are you guys kidding?  Those are USA FLORIDA type rents for houses just outside Orlando for gosh sakes.  Am I missing a decimal or something.  These rates seem sky high?
