  1. IMPORTANT........... Inspect your wheels before driving away.

The clamp is yellow, but unless you see it before trying to drive away, you will be for a sudden shock and maybe some car damage. I don't think there is one standard wheel used, especially if some wheels are too near obstructions like curbs.

Five years ago I came to my truck to find a clamp installation in progress. I wai, beg in English and bow lots. I dropped a 500 on ground. Nice smiling officer picked it up, took away the clamp, pointed to a sign in Thai saying wrong side of street, and here is the best part....

OFFICER STOOD IN A PROPER SPOT, HELD IT OPEN FOR ME, AND THEN WAVED ME IN. He saluted me.

It was then that I knew I had moved to the correct place for me! rolleyes.gif

  2. 1. Associate with an existing Thai run clinic.

    2. Just do the work permit paperwork as an "Assistant"

    3. Give good service and live happily and legally.

The work permit process, in some part, does allow some control on ONLY qualified people to work/practice medicine. No nation wants unqualified people doing work there. This can be one way to keep a govt eye on quality.

This "difficult work permit" is a bugaboo, bogus idea raised on this venue too often. It is very straightforward, requires lots of documents, yes, but is not nearly impossible nor overwhelming. Boilerplate must exist somewhere to help. The option to date, is if you can get by without it, why do it? Now we know no more Getting By.

In fact, bye bye, getting by. wai.gif

  3. This is just another of way too many comments here from people who settled in the WRONG COUNTRY for them.

Unlike Red China, Thailand does not shoot people departing the nation. You may have to pay for overstaying to get out, but otherwise the doors and airline gates are wide open.

I strongly recommend, for your mental health and lower blood pressure, that if you are so dissatisfied with Thailand, that you just LEAVE.

    Actually, PLEASE LEAVE.

There are foreigners living here who love the place just as it is and would not go live anywhere else. The chronic complainers give the wrong impression and their sour words and negative behavior make it worse for we who enjoy living here because we can be seen as another stupid farang.

Many complainers say "I hate Thailand and I hate more because it makes it hard for me to live here."

  4. Any democracy is a place of "open season" for the formation of Political Machines, like Thaksin's. It is a flaw in the democratic system, proven by the Daley machine in Chicago, for example. They, then, are very difficult to root out. For example, votes do not count because the machine is doing the counting and the buying. Then, the machine sets up populist programs (like the rice mess) that also include very easy and sure ways to skim lots of money off of them. Big public works, like an airport or rail line, are others that provide lots of kick backs to the machine and its operators. The public/voters are sold the idea that all this is for their benefit while millions are stolen in the process.

It is important to note that MACHINE POLITICS is ORGANIZED theft, like a Mafia, and is not like DISORGANIZED graft and corruptions of other times and other systems. It is the organized factor that made the Thaksin machine so very dangerous. And, it remains dangerous as long as it funds and arms terrorist goons to try to destabilize the nation in a last gasp effort to hold onto power. Rooting all this out is a huge job.

This is obviously the Army's primary task.... getting rid of Thaksins political machine.

  5. This claptrap is typical of foreigners who are expurts on Thailand...... i.e., knowing nothing except their Knee Jerk opinions formed elsewhere.

The problem with any democracy is the open possibility of the formation of powerful POLITICAL MACHINES in pockets within it. The Richard Daley machine in Chicago is a great model case of formation, use, and efforts to root it out.

The Thaksins political machine is the way he and his kin and cronies, bit by bit, gained near absolute power in the whole nation (except 4 S. provinces ). MACHINE POLITICS is devilishly difficult to root out as the Thai Army is now working on. It is also very difficult to arrange any democracy to avoid the growth of it and still have some kind of democracy.

Today, Thailand has the unique opportunity to kill off the Thaksin machine bloodlessly.... an "Amazing Thailand" feat in itself .... and then to try to find a way to stop his or other machines forming. All this and at the same time, put the Army to work WITH the police to get the police to enforce the law..... with and not "instead of" nor "without."

    I say Go Army !!!!

  6. Bangkok and Thailand in general are terrible places to be in a wheel chair or otherwise disabled getting around. It is just a fact in a land where handicapped stay home, cared by close relatives. The special handicapped parking spaces are a joke everywhere. Thai do not often pull over for ambulances, either.

Too, there is the dual feeling abounding that it is good to help people fallen down or hold doors etc, but at same time there is the idea that one should get away from misfortune as fast as possible fearing it will rub off onto you.

In a nation so very caring about people, this reserved parking misuse is so strange.

  7. i made a payment o a money lender to put the money in the bank but i not have the money to do this again and i am only asking for any know option ,i have stated my case .i am not putting myself forward for intergation.happy to hear options

go to a remote forest wat and ask to join. Likely they will take you in for no fees. Then be a monk, a real monk, and dare govt to do anything to a monk.

But gotta be a real monk.

  8. Gee I coulda told them, and did write it on Yahoo comments, the first day of the protests. There was even one photo I saw of black shirted guys training in military formations. It is very clear that there was the possibility that a private army could have begun work fully destabilizing the nation.

This destabilizing actions are textbook for American intelligence agencies in countries targeted for take over and installation of a local puppet leader, think Noriega for example.

This whole thing is not over and if the Army quits too soon, watch out.

But all this is painfully obvious to the astute observer.

  9. They must have 1000s of clamps, and they are going to be very busy

They seem to have just realized this can be a nice little earner, did they

send someone over to UK to gain training and insight.

    regards Worgeordie

Quick, get in the clamp wholesale biz and sell the hundreds of thousands the police will need to carry out this task.

Do not cash in by selling clamp busting methods.

  10. Bookem...... Your use of a cartoon of HH the Dalai Lama shows much disrespect and deep cultural insensitivity. It is insulting to you and profoundly embarrassing to you.

Please use a different image, not of His Holiness as some kind of avatar. YOU are not His Holiness.

It is acceptable to publish a good photo of HH the Dalai Lama as a reminder to Buddhists of Him, but not a photo as an avatar which places you quite unjustifiably as an equal of Him.

    Please show some respect.

This is acceptable, but not placed as an avatar......

  11. Girlfriend, at the risk of stating the obvious, sounds very emotionally withdrawn. Very hard to figure out what is driving girlfriend's behavior based on thumbnail sketch provided. Curious how much time you spend together with her, but not trying to by prying. Wish you the best.

Well, we live together, so 100% of the time.

Of course I can't spend time at her office job.

    Thank you for your reply.

Now you know you picked a girl of the wrong social class... middle class. Before you were more wrong by picking HiSo girl. These two classes of Thai women will NEVER mesh with a Western husband; there is no reason to do so. She has her own money, her own friends, her own Thai boyfriend, and her own mind.

Living together/marriage is a power relationship. One of the partners will rule, it is natural force and unavoidable.

Only poor class of Thai girls now respect the old, look for good heart instead of handsome wrapper, and are devoted to family and family values. This culture of the poor still exists in Thailand, especially in rural areas and it is from that group that a Western man must choose for a wife/gf. Then, she gives over the power to the man as a natural part of her beliefs and upbringing. THEN, you can be kind and gentle because your power allows you to GIVE freely to her....... love and money. She will not fight you for the role of boss and will accept your power position openly and with gratitude.

But, picking the right poor Thai girl and just finding her is the big job. Good luck as you change partners.

  12. Florida USA beaches have vendors very near who rent a chair or umbrella and carry it to your spot. Vendor comes and picks up all that stuff when you leave or you carry it to turn it in.

Why is this system not workable in Thailand?

Get the chairs off the beach and just deliver whatever is needed to be rented. Same for food DELIVERY.

My first visit to Thai beaches, I thought all the pre existing chairs were free for the public because they were just sitting there open. I thought they were placed by govt, I guess. I moved my brood in and freaked out the vendor. Very fun.

  13. Think about your best memories with your father or other senior male you knew, copy them.

I definitely know what NOT to do.......  Do not be a low class Thai who makes babies and abandons them and their mothers.

One huge problem for Thailand could be addressed by strict, enforced DEAD BEAT DADS laws.

  14. Flash your headlights from behind a bad driver cutting you off ........ That driver stopped in the high speed lane, got out of his car, began to walk toward me in my car threateningly. I pulled around him and went on, but exited into a busy shopping center lot asap. Did not see him again.facepalm.gif

Other similar incidents tell me clearly that..............

If you are a foreigner here, even if a black belt with a gun, JUST DO NOT PISS OFF A THAI. It can happen in a flash and, believe me, whatever happens, it will be YOUR FAULT.hit-the-fan.gif

This is a no-win country for foreigners..... remember the verdict of guilty for a foreigner beaten by a Thai mob.... foreigner is guilty....... reason, if he had stayed out of Thailand, this would never have happened.wai2.gif

I like it here, but I know now to keep my big trap (and bright headlights) shut.sorry.gif

  15. Deaths due to faulty electrical work is so common here. Living in this country has given me a complex about it. After reading all the stories about people dying after stepping into puddles, or jumping into a pool, I avoid stepping into a puddles completely, and I can't get into a bath tub without checking it first or into pool without that doesn't already have people in it. Sometimes I am even nervous about grasping metal rails or structures after seeing a friend of mine shocked so badly after grasping a metal support after getting out of a pool, or reading about the kids electrocuted by a football bleachers. He stood there silently with a strange look on his face, unable to release his grasp on the pole or speak. Eventually someone figured out what was happening and pushed him away. I guess I have to add ATM's to the list.

Nomad, if you just must touch a questionable metal thing, do so with the back of your hand.  If enough electrics is there, it will constrict your muscles, jerking you hand away from the touching..... uh, usually.

If a person is clutching a metal part and can not release himself.... push him firmly away from the metal by using a wood chair, cane pole, or other non-metal object.  Absolutely do not touch the victim with your hands or body.

Proper grounding to the metal case of the ATM would have prevented this terrible accident.

  16. Living with basic Thai family for years, I wondered about the floor eating.  At first, I bought a dozen plastic chairs only to find them nested and all stacked up on porch.  The matching table went to the kitchen for stand up food preparation work.

If a people are comfortable eating sitting on floor, that is a satisfying part of their culture.  To ask why is a waste of time.

Get a thick cushion to sit on, one that lets your legs be lower than your hips, and that will help lots.  Same for sitting meditation.

At least, foreigner, the family usually gives you "first dip" or best slice and first.  Nice.
