Report Thailand Tightens Grip on Retirement Visas Amid Wealth Shift
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Probably the same rule as it is for Brits, and dependent on the way that a particular Immigration Office interprets them. For instance, our local Immigration Office insists on either 800,000 baht being in a Thai Bank account for 3 months prior to extension date, or 65,000 baht a month for 12 months prior to extension date.i.e. :- (1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM); and (2) The applicant is 50 years of age or over; and (3) Proof of income of not less than Baht 65,000 per month; or (4) Account deposit with a bank in Thailand of not less than Baht 800,000 as shown in bank account transactions for the past 3 months; or (5) Annual income plus bank account deposit totaling not less than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date of application However, our local Immigration Office will not accept (5), only (3) or (4), and also small "peculiarities" that I believe are not required by other Immigration Offices e.g. photograph of you standing outside your house with the house number clearly visible? -

"By focusing narrowly on wealthy individuals, the nation might enjoy a short-term economic lift but could inadvertently erode the rich tapestry of middle-class expatriates who helped Thailand earn its retirement haven status." Yes - I want it all now - now - now - now, never mind tomorrow! -
Report Australian Man Caught Stealing Cannabis from Phuket Shop
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
And how exactly can you "guarantee" that? You weren't one of the perpetrators were you? P.S.[edit] "Medical cannabis products, including oils and tinctures, with over 0.2% THC requires a prescription for use.[5][6] This includes consumption by smoking or vaping.] Recreational cannabis, often referred to as 'recreational marijuana' or 'marijuana', has become legal under Thai Law." -
Report Expat Confusion Grows as Thailand Cracks Down on Helmet Law Violations

Many motor bikes do not have rear lights where I live, and they can be dangerous - I think half the time people do not check them - they assume that if the headlights are working, the rear lights must be working too. -
Sack the teacher immediately, and haul it before the courts for repeated physical abuse - no ifs or buts!!! This has apparently happened a few times before and parents are "scared to come forward" - Disgaraceful state of affairs and the fact that the parent was "unable to speak with the principal" and the violence continued absolutely stinks. Some of these teachers just seem to be bullies or legalised thugs - a bit like bouncers at night clubs but worse - they are assaulting CHILDREN for goodness sake! When I was at school in the UK many years ago, corporal punishment was still used, but only rarely, and the punishment was carried out by the Head or Assistant Head of the school if it was deemed an appropriate punishment - known in those days as "six of the best", and only on the "bum"!

If the news is anything to go by, it would seem that this "jump" in safety standards" has been preceded by a rather large brown envelope! -
Politics Storm Brewing: Elite Powers Disenchanted with PM Paetongtarn’s Reign
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agreed - and he is as shallow as a river bed in summer. I know it probably applies to a lot of politicians, but Anutin is more of a businessman, and it's all about "me,me,me" with his agendas. He has made quite a few gaffes in the past, and the thought of A Nut In charge of the country makes me shudder, as his thoughts on "dirty unwashed farangs" are common knowledge, and he would be trying to make life even more awkward for ex pats. -

"By vetting individuals before they enter the country, authorities hope to prevent criminals from gaining entry in the first place." Not exactly rocket science is it? These measures should have been implemented long ago, instead of all these visa free schemes.. -

Happens periodically! Also periodical statements regarding overstayers:- Friday, 7 July 2023, 14:16"Within the next three months, the number of overstayers should be reduced to zero, as they are more likely to engage in criminal activities, which can adversely affect Thailand’s tourism industry, Pol. Lt. Gen. Pakphumpipat said." (Note the date!!!) -
"The People’s Party, regarded by some conservatives as a threat to the monarchy and other traditional institutions, has seen its past incarnations, Move Forward and Future Forward, dissolved by court orders. Move Forward was disbanded for its stance on amending the lese majeste law, while Future Forward faced dissolution due to illegal financial contributions." Don't worry, if the People's party makes enough waves they will be disbanded too for some trivial reason.

"It would appear at every turn these days another lady assaulted or worse in the media" Also, there seems to be an alarming increase in the reports of people being attacked/mugged by "transgender females", and "turf war" type fights between groups of these "individuals". (We still call them "ladyboys", but I suppose in this PC world, that's not allowed any more in the media - MODS on here can probably explain) What happens to these "individuals"? Fined 500 baht tea money, and then let back on the street to carry on as before I suppose.
