"The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is positively beaming as European tourists flock to the country. The TAT governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, reveals that the visitor count from Europe has soared, with a stunning 3.5 million arrivals between January and April." But, but, but yesterday was all "doom and gloom"?:- "Thailand's tourism sector faces a pressing situation as foreign arrivals nosedive, with both leisure and corporate travellers dwindling. Former TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn stresses urgent reform is needed to revive the industry and proposes the creation of new destinations to attract higher-quality visitors. Visitor numbers have dropped 1% as of May 11, with particular declines from key markets like China, Hong Kong, and South Korea." "I would rather believe Keir Starmer than anyone from TAT, and his turnarounds are legendary (in the UK)!

Good post! The renewal process in my "neck of the woods" takes a bit longer than that, but the annoying thing is having to provide the same information (in duplicate) year after year after year e.g. Copy of Marriage Licence, copy of all pages of Passport etc etc. This year I managed to get the number of photocopies required down to about 130!!!

This seems to have been suggested many times but nothing is done or will be done about these killers until some "hi-so" or his family are attacked. It seems that animal life is more sacred here than humans'. From a few years back:- "Giant, aged 2, the Pit Bull breed or Ban Dog that savaged its owner to death last week has been taken to his funeral in Pattaya. He took part in a ceremony called "khor khama" in which he apologized to the corpse."

Well done Mr Sayan for taking the photo, and well done AN for publishing it. Too often we hear of the perpetrators of injustice leaving the scene and nobody has the foresight to take a "snap", which is bound to be a lot of help to the investigators. -

Report Thaksin Treatment Saga: Health Minister Faces Crucial Decision
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"This court is tasked with examining whether Thaksin's prison sentence was appropriately enforced, with the first hearing set for June 13." What prison sentence? The one that was reduced from 8 years to 1, although I don't think he actually served one day in jail. -

As is the day I put you on "Ignore" - I'd forgotten why, but you've just reminded me! By the way, you need to be careful with your racist remarks - the "Mods" have their eyes on you! "A post using a derogatory slur for British people has been removed, please don't do this, @Ralf001 15. You will not discriminate or post slurs, degrading or overly negative comments on the basis of race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, disability, medical history, marriage, civil partnership, pregnancy, maternity, paternity, gender identity, sexual orientation or any other irrelevant factor." -

Did I say there was? The point I was making is that many "Brits" involved in trouble have foreign sounding names, and the fact that Muhammad is the most popular choice of name for a baby boy not only in London, but in many parts of the UK illustrates the fact that the place is fast becoming overrun by foreigners . -

Sign of the times I suppose, but it's becoming very commonplace for British tourists involved in these situations to have foreign sounding names - Mr Emilio sounds more Italian or Spanish to me. Incidentally, also a sign of the times, the nost popular baby boy's name in London as at 2024 was Muhammad! -
For the first time I can remember, Koh Samui Council became pro active, and used the quiet time to advantage by resurfacing nearly all of the ring road on the island. And the beaches were super quiet - no jet skis or hawkers plying their trade (OK everybody has to make a living - just sayin'! 🙂)

"Are Thai hospitals over charging ?" Without a doubt - some more than others. At a certain hospital in Koh Samui, (which has to remain nameless due to defamation laws) a mate of mine was visiting and overheard a doctor telling a guy he needed "a stitch" in his finger due to a small cut, and the cost was going to be 19,000 baht! The same hospital were going to charge someone "up to 500,000 baht" for a spinal operation when it turned out to be a trapped nerve!

I had to have a root canal filling and a crown fitted, and the Insurance paid up. However a few years later, I had the same problem with another tooth, but they wouldn't pay out because:- "I had made a similar claim before". So, for insurance purposes, you're only allowed to have toothache once in your lifetime?
