  1. Border pass can only be obtained if you live near the border and reason to go in and out regularly. Other Thais all need passports.
  2. Am I missing something here? " Foreign nationals must show passports or other valid identification" is what it is currently - what's new?
  3. He can do it after he arrives or the last day. Would recommend doing it at Central Festival Immigration - easier and quicker and make sure he has a copy of the TM30 - it's the first thing they'll look for. Also no need to do it at 8:30 at Central Festival - just turn up whenever.
  4. Then do the 90 day at Central Festival - the only thing they require is the form and it takes no more than five minutes in and out.
  5. You don't have to file a new TM30 for an extension of stay - this is presuming you already have one on file.
  6. Seems highly qualified to run for parliament
  7. About 10-20m from the old one towards the Thapae Gate - you can see the new Johns Place while sitting in the Moat House, the pub on the spot of the old one. Could even be in the spot of the old German restaurant/bar.
  8. Been closed to foreigners since around July. CR immigration for an extension or you can pop across the border into Laos from Chiang Khong or Chiang Saen.
  9. Traffic this time of year will be your only problem.
  10. What do you mean by they are not offering train tickets at the moment? When are you trying to book for? If it's the new year period, 100% guaranteed they're sold out. Also make sure when you're doing a search that your starting station is Krung Thep Aphiwat, which is the main terminus in Bangkok now. Would recommend booking directly as well. https://dticket.railway.co.th/DTicketPublicWeb/home/Home
  11. Christmas Fair. I tried to go on the weekend but gave up due to the insane traffic. Apparently they were offering a chance to win iPhones as well, driving even more Thais to visit.
  12. Sponsored by Grab, but it's open to other ride-hailing apps. If you read the post from CNX where the picture came from, it specifically says, in Thai, that it's for all ride-hailing apps. As for the rest of it, you're talking about the past. Ride-hailing apps became legal in 2021 and the battles between Grab drivers and rod daeng and taxis in Chiang Mai pre-date COVID.
  13. Get away from the city and the main highways and there are various places to ride - for example, back areas of San Sai and Doi Saket and up towards Mae Kuang Dam are relatively safe for riding.
  14. See the picture below - that's the legal pickup point for ride hailing apps launched at CNX last month - more pictures per the link. It's neither illegal nor discouraged.
  15. It was a guy making rockets - it was not a "fireworks factory." https://www.facebook.com/ChiangmaiPR/posts/pfbid02i1jxwv5pAL5cerp4XBQAStrUpAJE3RWDtFsKAyRh7UFHa9DYugeVq12MsbTimo2Bl
  16. Myanmar border is closed to foreigners. Your options are Chiang Khong or Chiang Saen, although Chiang Knong is the more popular of the two - least that's where the visa run companies travel to from Chiang Mai.
  17. Now just wait until they find out they can't sell alcohol until 4 a.m. and see what they have to say.
  18. They don't enforce the current laws, such as burning bans and it being illegal to start fires in national parks, protected forests and wildlife reserves. Unless they're actually going to try to enforce the new act, the new Clean Air Act is less useful than toilet paper.
  19. Closed with no sign of it reopening to foreigners.
  20. This is the correct answer. Keep it on the down low and don't go telling people that you're working and they'll never know.
  21. Baan and Beyond is now known as BnBHome and they're located next to Thai Watsadu on the 121 in San Sai. https://maps.app.goo.gl/nuCwQgyxkMUF7PdP9
  22. Isn't any whales in Chiang Mai - well, not marine ones anyway.
