  1. Yes USENET still exists except now you'll probably have to pay for a connection to a decent server with good retention, propagation and speed...used to be the case that ISP's would include USENET in the service At least they did in the UK Pipex,Demon and even British Telecom offered bundled USENET.
  2. I agree with you on this point. That's why more speech is better than less speech the more discussion that takes place the more people realise that they have more in common with each other than they have differences Just the 2 that matter of course anyone can say they are a multitude of they, their, them's, he,she,it depending on the phase of the moon.. freedom of speech allows that, it should also allow others to disagree.
  3. Interesting indeed considering .
  4. I think forums in general, the moderation policy probably didn't help much, now its all Fakebook,X/twitter and the abominable TikTok. None of which I use... the bestest IMHO was USENET /soc.culture.thai that was some crazy stuff back in the "good olde days" now unfortunately just full of SPAM like most of USENET.
  5. In another thread you say "If a society going to succeed, and make most people pull in the same direction for everyones best, there need to be some kind of contralled stream of officially facts and news." The result of what you propose is the very thing you are complaining about here...when people are censored/controlled, most eventually just stop posting anything at all that is why free speech is vitally important for a healthy society be it online or in the "real world" (a few freethinkers will continue no matter what as that is the only way to break the cycle/spell)...
  6. The thing about Amorn/physical stores is that you can take an old broken part with no id number there and compare the dimensions with a replacement part that may be from a completely different model or manufacturer but is close enough to fit..maybe requires a small modification to work, that's something that is almost impossible to do with an online store..saved my bacon a few times 🙏
  7. Immigration Hacked? Probably and not for the first time.
  8. Wear a mask at all times, distance from socialites at least 6 feet, keep the kids from school, stay home, work from home, clap for the NHS,shutdown the whole economy, decimate small business, don't kill grandma by visiting her on her death bed...there's more but....
  9. Censorship is many more times damaging to society than free speech free speech is essential to a "healthy society"
  10. There's a bit of a quoting mixup in my above post up 2 (# unknown ) Hummin not maesariang said apologies.
  11. I gave you a confused emoji for the whole post but mostly this bit "Contralled stream of officially facts" is not free speech, far from it, it is what we have now certain powerful entities decide what the narrative/facts is going to be and do their upmost to maintain that narrative/facts whatever the cost to the "free speech" of others their opinions, livelihood careers and reputations can go take a flying duck !!! 🤮
  12. Wonder how the Germans feel about Ukraine blowing up the gas pipeline leading to hugh energy price increases for them and across Europe....oops!
  13. The language barrier can be a big problem, I have had good and bad experiences asking a Thai the product specifications, maybe overall more bad than good but I don't think that's really a Thai thing more of a miscommunication and "paying peanuts" problem which so often results in ? whatever country.
  14. Well yes when it works its all good but when something goes wrong trying to solve the problem online with a Thai (or any one else) can be a bit of a nightmare at least with a local physical shop you just take the defective product back to them and demand a replacement or refund... (stomping feet and shouting loudly optional but not really advised 😋)
  15. IMHO the phone app is not nice to use at all 🤢 no wonder they give some discounts for the mental and physical torture endured while using the piddly screen and keyboard size of a mobile device 😋
  16. Really ? can't say I noticed them are you counting the floor at street level as the first floor ? or is it Basement, Ground, first, second etc for me I'd call the "ground" floor first floor and the second floor is where all the mobile phone shops are third floor has printer shops as well as Power Buy which is looking to go the same way as Amorn IMHO, fourth floor has Mr D.I.Y and the games/DVD shops fifth floor now closed had another big name computer shop occupying the whole floor the name of which evades me at the moment. This sign amused me a bit can't remember which floor it was either old age is setting in.
  17. Yes It looks more and more sparse every time I visit 😢
  18. I'm pretty sure the returns policy is against consumer protection law and they would have refunded if threatened, apparently the consumer protection department are very much on the side of a consumer and the shops know full well that they mean business...anyway I have never tried to get them involved. As for the stock I would imagine they took it to the Siricha Tukcom branch which I believe is still open...ahh the (not so) "good ole" days of having to drive from Pattaya to Siricha for all computer equipment what a pain in the backside that was. I like Mr D.I.Y and they carry a large range of stuff that Amorn don't but at the same time as mentioned by others Amorn carries lots of sometimes harder to find spare parts for electronic appliances and it's a shame they made the decision to close the Pattaya branch.
  19. Sadly the Amorn shop in Tukcom basement has closed its shutters for the last time. R.I.P you will be missed by many.
  20. I went mid day yesterday ...shuters down and locked almost everything cleared out inside the shop..I asked the staff at Tops they said its closed for good...I think Mr D.I.Y took a large chunk of their customers. Sad to see it gone they had loads of good stuff in there especially the spare parts for washing machines and electric fans.
  21. Amorn basement Tukcom Pattaya is gone R.I.P
  22. Well sadly I made a correct prediction Amorn in the basement of Tuckcom Pattaya is gone R.I.P.
  23. I remember back in 1996 -2000's before the mobile phones they where really quite anal about taking photos in the shopping malls, I was reprimanded a couple of times by security that literally ran across the mall at the sight of my 35mm old school camera before I even got a chance to take a shot ! nowadays everyone has a phone and taking photos and video is no longer a problem they probably even welcome the free advertising as they should have in the first place.
  24. They haven't sold aspirin at Tesco Lotus'sss,Big C ,Tops, Sevell ellevel..Boots,Watson's etc etc for quite a few years now, for some reason they seem to think its a class A drug ....yes i'm well aware of the danger of Aspirin and dengue fever. There are sometimes 80mg "for heart conditions" tablets available at silly prices in Fascino "Tun Jai" aspirin powder in sachets I think is still available online.
  25. The stupidly load exhaust systems are worse along with the belching black diesel smoke disco lights to light up the moon and amusing but irrelevant rear view mirrors adorned with Michelin Bibendums !
