I understand from the source at Astro that they are planning to change their SmartCard in August to combat piracy.
As such, I wonder is the clone smartcard or the P9000/7000 decoder still operable to view Astro's programmes?
Pokemon:
Only the poeple at Astro know the answer for sure and they won't tell you
If they change to Seca 2 encryption then it may still be possible to view again after a blackout period while the "pirates" figure out what has changed and how to get round it , do a search on Seca 2 and see what you come up with. it might be cracked allready I don't know.

try asking your issaan friends about the surname of the english football teams captain(when pronounced quickly)
Buck hum !!!!

MiTV is the latest technology on the pay TV segment...... pay a monthly fee.
It is a ' terrestrial' type of sending signals/programs to paid up subscribers, using
a special box/decoder supplied by the company
The first attempt at digital terestrial television in the UK (Ondigital)failed,
maybe due to it using the Seca mediaguard encryption system that was well and truely hacked (roumour has it that the rival NDS boffins cracked Seca)

A ten foot dish to recieve Astro in Pattaya thats about 3 meter's diameter
it's huge !!!!!!!!

konangrit :
Excellent idea of yours to mark the coverage areas on a map of Pattaya city.
When I move to Soi 15 I will let everyone here know if ADSL is available there or not, judging by your map it looks highly likely

My favourites in Pattaya are ... in order of most practice.
bribe the copper (not much fun though)
spot the dealer ( or are they the coppers ?)
refuse the ladyboy ( They seem to like me for some reason )

For any one who wants to check the TT&T ADSL coverage area I found this site
http://www.ttt.co.th/T-speed/index.asp
when I put my Pattaya number in it returned a result !!!
คุณอยู่ในพื้นที่ให้บริการ
โปรดติดต่อ เลขหมายทีทีแอนด์ที *997
Call Center 026932100 ต่อ 1997
Apparently I am now in the coverage area
So now a question for people using TSpeed is the monthly charge fully inclusive or do you still have to pay a separate ISP charge ?
http://www.ttt.co.th/T-speed/about_tspeed/...oduct_tzone.htm
seems to sugest it depends on the speed you want as to whether you pay
TT&T + ISP or just the ISP ?????

I'm not a TSpeed user but maybe this is what your looking for .

The satellite shop used to be in that row of shops that was demolished !!
if you stand and look at that row of (demolished) shops with big C behind you, then look left you will se the satellite shop it has dishes on the roof.
there is the car accessory shop, satellite shop , model making shop and then the picture framing shop
I was told (by the ink jet refill shop) that the owner of those shops wanted to make one big shop I think they must have gone bust as there is no new building going on there now :-(
-
madsere :
There is a "satellite dealer" very near to the south Pattaya Big C store
it's not in the Big C but in one of the the shops around the perimeter where
Duck Plaza used to be. (if you have been there you'll know what I mean)
I don't know for sure as I havn't asked about Astro but maybe thay could help you.
I was only half joking about the work permit.

I have been using their dial up package "non stop cafe" for a year now
recently they changed the name of the package to NonstopX5 and droped the price per month by 200 baht to 1,300 baht, the X5 supposedly allows you(with special compression software) to get upto 5X the speed of a normal analog modem.
I have not tried the software, but can say that I think the speed and amount of modem hangups has got worse since they changed over, but it could be the phone line to blame for that.
They have a local POP in Chonburi that's a local call for me 3 baht a time no matter how long the call is, pick one that is close to you and a *999 number for back up. Avoid the 1222 number as it's allways busy.
Overall I would say its not to bad, an ISP ( could do better though) they made a mess of my billing after changing from one package to another but it was sorted out eventully.
And now an old question... does anyone know when ADSL will be available
TO ALL AREAS of Pattaya ?? .............................any one ???
-
buy a step ladder, various tools and sun hat, and plan where to put our shiny new dish
RDN don't forgot about hiring the local Thai to actually do the work !!! you know what happens if they catch a farlung "working" without a work permit

Taxexile :
Yes that works very well for me, thanks for that.
-
Stumonster ... that works for me thank's very much indeed.
I had allready tried the regional settings in control panel.. though not tried setting them in hotmail but as Axel points out that doesn't work any way.
-
Monty thanks for the link
but it don't work doesn't work for me, I just get directed back to the Thai site.
This has happend since the start with Google but only started yesterday with Hotmail
I can live with it if I have to.
-
Today for some strange reason, when I call up www.hotmail.com
it is redirected to to the Thai version of hotmail.
I have not changed anything in my browser setting or anywhere else as far as I know.
It's slightly annoying and really I would like to change it back to English does anyone have some ideas how to do that ???
By the way I am using a Thai ISP Ji-Net.

If the satellite "footprint" does not reach northern Thailand
then you won't get a signal, no matter how big a dish you get.
Have a look here http://www.lyngsat.com/mea1.html this is the Astro your talking about right ??
Now have a look at the Ku band coverage http://www.measat.com/footprint1.html
Does not look to promising to me

The yellow building with the boat parked in front ??, I can see it from here.
Some one else told me how happy the guy in charge was to finally have ADSL,and about his eratic opening times. ( or are you the very same person ?? )
In fact some one even closer claims to have ADSL ....it must be to do with tea money.
After searching the Thai webboard have a look here if anyone is interested
I found this from "Knot"
บัวขาว ถ้าไปขอตอนนี้ได้เลยนะครับ จบข่าว เราคงต้องรอต่อไปน้า เซ็งๆๆๆ isdn 56 kWe find that TT&T numbers starting with 3 and 7 have to wait a bit longer another 2 months they said that a year ago.
Soi Baukow can get it now... marvelous.
By the way, we are still waiting to a reply from TT&T by email (it will never arrive)
The phone number they give on thier website for checking coverage area and further information 02-693-2100 extension 1292 does not work (surprise surprise)
Yes I truely believe that Thailand will soon be a first world country

meadish_sweetball
This has nothing to do with this topic, but should you not be a
" Swedish Meatball "
sorry just wondering
-
I am still waiting for a reply to the email my girlfriend sent to to AT&T asking about
thier planed roll out of ADSL to all parts of Pattaya... they said it would happen a year ago
Obviously they don't give a flying wotsit about customer service.
So does anyone know where I can get an ADSL line from
I am in Soi Yensabai it's not far from second road where they can get ADSL.
I don't mind changing telecom companies as long as they can provide ADSL
if TT&T can't deliver could TOT or Telecom Asia ?
I suppose I could go to the TT&T office and offer some tea money but it would be the last resort.
Any way what ever happens
