  1. well it didn't last long I'm not so pleased with it now.......

9 PM this evening untill 10 PM modem says it's connected and I can sign in but there is no connection to the wide world :-( I gave up trying so for now I'm back to Ji-net 56K modem will try the ADSL again tommorow morning.

  2. Just an update to let everyone know.

I finally got an ADSL connection in South Pattaya Soi 15

    (near Hollywood disco)

It's the TT&T / Hi-Net 999 baht per month ,they supplied a D-link DSL 210 usb modem, I asked if the modem was free the girl at the Carefour office said yes ! well I'll wait for the first bill to see if they added the 1700 baht modem cost.

The connection has been pretty good so far (only two days) dropped conection twice but reconected immediatly.

It's a vast improvement over a 56k modem and cheaper than the old dail-up package I was using, so far I'm pleased with it.

  3. I am using the D-Link DSL210 usb modem that Hi-net gave to me for free when I signed up to thier service.

Very easy to set up to use it with windows XP

Linux took me two days of experimenting with different perameters before it worked.

Service area is South Pattaya Soi 15 near to Hollywood disco.

Macafee speedometer test is allways about 200.00 Kbps

I have achieved 540 Kbps with mutiple simultaneous downloads

ok it's not excelent but beats a 56k modem

one big "problem" is that Hi-Net hand out IP addresss's in the private range today I got 172.16.20.32

  4. I went to the time share hard sell to help out one of the "student surveyers"

she didn't know it was a time share scam that she was involved in.

All she knew was, if she got some one to go to the office in Jomtien and listen to the rubbish they spouted for more than an hour they would pay her 500 baht per head, however getting poeple to trust/believe that they had won a free holiday is quite difficault ,she normaly only got paid 500-1000 baht per week.

So in the end after telling them I wanted time to think about it.

she was glad to get the 500 baht and I was glad to escape with my life :-)

    :o

  5. I understand from the source at Astro that they are planning to change their SmartCard in August to combat piracy.

As such, I wonder is the clone smartcard or the P9000/7000 decoder still operable to view Astro's programmes?

    Pokemon:

Only the poeple at Astro know the answer for sure and they won't tell you :D

If they change to Seca 2 encryption then it may still be possible to view again after a blackout period while the "pirates" figure out what has changed and how to get round it , do a search on Seca 2 and see what you come up with. it might be cracked allready I don't know. :o

  6. MiTV is the latest technology on the pay TV segment...... pay a monthly fee.

It is a ' terrestrial' type of sending signals/programs to paid up subscribers, using

a special box/decoder supplied by the company

The first attempt at digital terestrial television in the UK (Ondigital)failed,

maybe due to it using the Seca mediaguard encryption system that was well and truely hacked (roumour has it that the rival NDS boffins cracked Seca)

  7. konangrit :

Excellent idea of yours to mark the coverage areas on a map of Pattaya city.

When I move to Soi 15 I will let everyone here know if ADSL is available there or not, judging by your map it looks highly likely :o

  8. For any one who wants to check the TT&T ADSL coverage area I found this site

    http://www.ttt.co.th/T-speed/index.asp

when I put my Pattaya number in it returned a result !!!

    คุณอยู่ในพื้นที่ให้บริการ

    โปรดติดต่อ เลขหมายทีทีแอนด์ที *997

    Call Center 026932100 ต่อ 1997

Apparently I am now in the coverage area :D

So now a question for people using TSpeed is the monthly charge fully inclusive or do you still have to pay a separate ISP charge ?

    http://www.ttt.co.th/T-speed/about_tspeed/...oduct_tzone.htm

seems to sugest it depends on the speed you want as to whether you pay

    TT&T + ISP or just the ISP ????? :o

  9. The satellite shop used to be in that row of shops that was demolished !!

if you stand and look at that row of (demolished) shops with big C behind you, then look left you will se the satellite shop it has dishes on the roof.

there is the car accessory shop, satellite shop , model making shop and then the picture framing shop

I was told (by the ink jet refill shop) that the owner of those shops wanted to make one big shop I think they must have gone bust as there is no new building going on there now :-(

  10. madsere :

There is a "satellite dealer" very near to the south Pattaya Big C store

it's not in the Big C but in one of the the shops around the perimeter where

Duck Plaza used to be. (if you have been there you'll know what I mean)

I don't know for sure as I havn't asked about Astro but maybe thay could help you.

I was only half joking about the work permit. :o

  11. I have been using their dial up package "non stop cafe" for a year now

recently they changed the name of the package to NonstopX5 and droped the price per month by 200 baht to 1,300 baht, the X5 supposedly allows you(with special compression software) to get upto 5X the speed of a normal analog modem.

I have not tried the software, but can say that I think the speed and amount of modem hangups has got worse since they changed over, but it could be the phone line to blame for that.

They have a local POP in Chonburi that's a local call for me 3 baht a time no matter how long the call is, pick one that is close to you and a *999 number for back up. Avoid the 1222 number as it's allways busy.

Overall I would say its not to bad, an ISP ( could do better though) they made a mess of my billing after changing from one package to another but it was sorted out eventully. :D

And now an old question... does anyone know when ADSL will be available

TO ALL AREAS of Pattaya ?? .............................any one ??? :o

  12. buy a step ladder, various tools and sun hat, and plan where to put our shiny new dish

RDN don't forgot about hiring the local Thai to actually do the work !!! you know what happens if they catch a farlung "working" without a work permit :o
