  1. Here's the list:

    Green Phangan.

    รักษ์พงัน

Say "No" to plastic bags. Bring a reusable bag when shopping.

    ควรลดการใช้ถุงพลาสติค ควรใช้ถุงกระดาษหรือถุงผ้าแทน

Find a bin for your rubbish and cigarette butts.

    ควรทิ้งขยะและก้นบุหรี่ลงในถังขยะ

Clean rubbish off the beach and dispose of it in bins.

    ช่วยกันเก็บขยะที่ชายหาด

Don't throw anything into the Sea.

    อย่าทิ้งขยะลงทะเล

Bring your own reusable container when buying take away food.

    ใช้กล่องอาหารส่วนตัวเวลาซื้ออาหาร

  2. :o

Well I for one am feeling pretty darn good about our little group so far. Spike and I are pretty close to one another for the next 3 months then I will be back on the island, with him shortly to follow. I agree completely with Ms. Sabai. I'd like to really move slow to have a long lasting impact and be able to move forward as time goes on. Green Cross faded pretty fast didn't it. Same with the Life Guards on Had Rin.

Hey Ms. Sabai, do you have a source for paper or bio plastic bags yet? I forgot to ask you in my pm

  3. Really, no water filters. So most of the restaurants are buying filtered water in those big bottles. Home owners too. See I do live in little bubble on Had Tien. We all have water filters, even the houses for rent have them.

Well there's an easy way to make money and help the reduction of plastic. 5 baht a refill adds up quick. Maybe I'll start selling water filters door to door when I get back. Maybe get the boyfriend to do it. :o

  4. On HT, Yuan and Whynam, refills bottles for 5 baht. 10 for the big ones. All the resturants and bungalows I'm assuming, on the rest of the island have water filters, am I right?

Are the shops buying the island water bottles already filled or just the empty bottles like Had Tien? I was assuming they bought them empty and filled them up? SBK?

Maybe will also need to do a campaign for bungalows and restaurants to offer 5 baht water refills.

The Rubbish issue is a huge mess. I live on a beach that no one barely even recycles because it's too much time for them to deal with getting the bottles off the beach.

At this point, I think the best we can do is try and reduce as much as we can. If we have signs everywhere at least people might think twice before they do something.

We aren't going to change what the fisherman do by telling them, but thay might start thinking if they see it written and certainly reinforcing and supporting the children to lead the way to make the island less polluted.

Again, we start small. Who knows someone in waste management who wants to start a business on a tropical island?

  5. If you don't already know what I'm talking about I'll make it quick. A campaign and maybe we will even get a group of concerned citizens of Phangan to start helping take better care of the island. My personnal idea is a sign campain that I hope will also be posted in some of the magizines on the island.

10 easy things you can do to help the island

Just saying no to plasitc bags

Bring your own container for take away orders

Don't throw anything into the water

    Clean the beach

Always find a rubbish bin for your garbage

    Refill your water bottle

Some great people are looking like they are on board and it will be very exciting to see if those of us who would like to see the island get cleaner can do just that, help make it cleaner.

    :o

  6. Joy Sports in BKK supplies one shop in Samui and another on Phangan. If you go to the website you can check out what they have. Samui shop on the right hand side of the ring road in Maenam nearly to Nathon.

Phangan in Bantai heading towards Thongsala on the right hand side of the road. Closer to Thongsala then Bantai proper. I think I might even have a business card at home. I'm at the libary right now.

  7. Right before Songkran isn't really low reason and prices for everything has gone up by a lot over the last few years, so your friends might not being charging you as much as you think.

20,000 for 40 people. That's cheap like 500b per. head for each day they stay there. Resort has pool and includes breakfast, grab it. Your not gonna get any better then that. That's 20 rooms?

Day of wedding come up with Thai buffet for 40 people easy!! We throw parties at the place I live all the time.

Easy Buffet Style: Green Curry Veg, Fried Basil with pork/chicken, Fried Veg Cashew Nut and Rice for 40 people. 200 baht per. head.

Oder your wedding Cake from the wonderful women at the Bakery in Thongsala right before you get to the traffic light on the left hand side. They are the best and so sweet. Nothing but love goes into their yummy baked goods.

  8. Phangan Guide? New site? My computer as some of you know is really having old age problems and some days I can't even get a post out within 10 minutes.

I'll give the site a better look latter the pics are lovely. Had Rin has some true quality people that are trying to keep things calmer and safer. It's an up hill struggle for them, but there is a lot of good happening there. And I love Had Rin when it's not packed with drunks. It's only like that a few days out of the year.

Hey Frankman, what's a proper tourist. I'm interested in your comment.

So my computer issue is slowing me down a lot these days. However, I fully intend on moving forward with my idea. Which may or may not be clear as of yet. So anyone wanting to work on a campaign on how to educate as many people as we can on easy steps to make the island cleaner and more eco-friendly. PM me and we can dialog and move on. So first is a Sign Campaign.

    Here is the jist:

1.Come up with a list no longer then 10 sugestions. Not a ban way to early for that kind of thing.

    Example:

Say no thanks to the plastic bags, bring your own.

Don't throw anything in the water.

    Refill your water bottles.

Clean the beach. You'll get a more even tan walking around.

Bring your own container for take away.

    What else?

    2. Design the the layout and yes, in Thai and English.

    3. Present the idea to P.E. and any of the other mags around see if we can't get them to make this part of the mag. As soon as the list is set this can be presented. And I think PE at least will go for it.

    4. Price how much it would take to make one sign. Same size and as say the, "good taste" signs

    5. Go to business owners and see if we can raise the money to make the signs and have them placed in the stores around the island.

And it does save business owner money.

This is where I'm going to start. :o

  9. Ham I know English is not your first language so sometimes your posts are hard to follow. :o

Ham, I think we understand what's possible and what needs to just be over looked, because it's better that way.

I'll be just thrilled when you get your site up. I think it is going to be a very helpful to the people who visit the island and I for one will be happy to help support your efforts. I think we are on the same page.

Who knows what officials are more likely to be happy with a group of Westerns who want to do something for the whole island?

Someone like SBK could be an invaluable in this, as her husband could lead us to the right people. Someone like Pafi, another good bridge. There are plenty of Westerns who have high profile businesses that clearly would know who to warm up to.

    So idea is;

    A. Find a reasonable cause that has a fairly attainable solution.

    B. Find out which officials are more likely to welcome a group of Westerners helping to make the island more attractive to all.

    C. We don't hand over any money to anyone other then the venders that we are making purchases from.

Maybe rubbish bins is too big of a venture at this point. Let's put it on the back burner and save it. How about we start with reduction of plastic bag use and make really nice signs on how to help keep Phangan cleaner.

So Pafi is doing the magazine? I've met him and he seems like a really nice guy. Can anyone get me the e-mail for him the website has been down. I'm sure someone has an P.E sitting around.

Where's Jose? Who's willing to give 50 baht to help produce and distribute nice signs that can be placed around the island on how to help reduce the garbage.

  10. Big is my tattoo is my tattoo artist. Bet he isn't so busy right now being slow season. All bamboo no machine. So he's on TNP noi.

The guy across from 7-11 in Had Rin has a good reputaion. You know their are so many. Do you care if it's machine or bamboo?

Bamboo imo is less painful and the healing process much faster. Also, if it is someone who is dark complected then I'd advise not to get color. The one thing I regret about my tattoos is that I got color. My all black ones look much better.

  11. Ham you have the perfect domaine already!!! Why I didn't ask you? I don't know. Your website was one of the first ones I found after my first trip to the island. I'm really close to the Honey Bungalow Family.

What's the NA prayer; " God help me to change what I can and accept the things I can't." Something like that.

Anyway, I hear you Baco about pit falls and draw backs and ticking off the wrong guy who isn't listed.

Girlx you should try and get the women you mentioned to join in the dialog here.

Anyone know the guy from Sage/Phangan Explorer? It would be great to have him and his mag on board trying to help out. I'm a little put off by the statement on the Sage site about desenilasation being a good way to solve the water issue, but he does try to tactfully warn tourist not to be foolish and get themselves in trouble. Maybe he would be willing to have a top 10 list on how to help us keep the Island clean and help put a fund raiser to buy really good sturdy rubbish bins as a start.

So what do you think folks. What villages get regular garbage pick? Where can we buy 1,000 or more sturdy rubbish bins? Who is the head of the dept. of sanitation? As you all know I'm not there now, but I'll be more then happy to go around to try and collect donations from businesses willing to chip in. Is this a good place to start?

  12. If any of you are interested in the truth of Paajaan or getting more stats and information about the condition of the Asian Elephant in Thailand I suggest you go to the Thai Focus Website. You can also check on The Wildlife friends of Thailand.

PETA did a documentry on Paajaan and it caused a big problem for the people who came forward with the practice and the fact that it is still practiced.

One of the hardest things is teaching people that negative reinforcement is not the only way to train an animal or a child for that matter.

Want to support Elephants and help them have a happy life check out the two places I've mentioned. I can tell you that it might be the most rewarding and wonderful thing that you ever do. Hard work, but rewarding.

  13. The Aldera is really wonderful. Not officially for Basel cell treatment, but there are concerned and up to date Doctors who are suggesting it. I was lucky and as I said before, My regular Doctors sub here in the States made the suggestion. Also. the whole idea of only being to use the pack for one treatment and opening a new one is hogwash. I use it until it is finished and then open a new one. No nasty burning and painful scabs. Little red and peeling a ting bit.

I went around to a number of the pharmacies in Thailand trying to find it and couldn't so I'm happy to go to Bumrungrad. I have not tried Bangkok Hospital.

Thanks the tip on the Amoils I'm going to check that out.

  14. like i said, up to you. but wait until you have a problem or someone close to you does, and then see what you say. koh phangan was my home too, full time year round and in the center of the village as a lone farang female, which is quite different to your experience i am sure, and i have seen a lot that you probably won't see (both good and bad)... and i still love it!... but i find some aspects of the place quite sad, and would love to see it cleaned up so it is safer and some of the disgusting people who are there (farangs who spend all their money on drugs and then mooch around off the locals, locals who get hopped up on whatever and then go provoke fights with tourists, etc.) get pushed out so that it can be a paradise all around rather than just on the surface.

Girlx I've seen everything that you have and I've seen my neighbors get beat up and all their money taken away and everything else that you have mentioned. I was single on the island for nearly 3 years. I just don't bother to tell everyone on TV about it.

I made a point to keep really close to a number of key families on the island and listen to everything they say and don't make waves. I work along side of them and with them, Thai style. But I'm smart enough to know that I'm not a local. I am fully aware that I am tolerated. I don't even consider myself accepted. I don't get into business deals with well known unscrupulous characters and I keep my big mouth shut. I'm not saying that you get yourself into trouble by stirring the pot, but perhaps you did.

Again, your comment was offensive and I'm bored with bringing up the same old stuff that most of us are fully aware of that goes on in the whole kingdom.

Baco, I think you were commenting on my idea.

For instance here in the states there is Better Business.

Basically you don't get a bunch of complaints you can be on the list. What we have on the island is what 3 magazines now. They list businesses that advertise with them.

So you list places that seem to have really good business practices.

    For instance;

I have a couple internet/travel agents I go to in Had Rin. Nice people, on top of things and one even charges us semi locals 2 baht a minute. Nice people.

Only one of them I would suggest getting a motor bike from. Her bikes are good, tuned up and most of all the brakes are good. The others no.

People looking for good clean cheap rooms. You can find them all over, but those bungalows don't advertise. I for one would like to see them get more business. We still have plenty of really nice people who want no frills rooms. But no listing of where they are.

Sort of like what Lonely Planet does. Same for the trades, real estate companies, etc.

I went to Phangan Explorers website and it's down. I'll try to find Sage Properties.

  15. I went to pattaya int H, waited a while went in and said i needed my B cells frezzed they said we dont do that here ,so i left that was 3 months ago,

my 2 trips tp BPH one was on xmas day[2yrs ago] frezze gun not working so they did me with cotton buds ,no prob good job, cost 1000 baht]

went back to see doc anna,8 months later she said u have too many 'ill do some but get some EFUDIX cream and do them yourself, not impressed...in OZ its 55 dollars small tube and looks terrible when done,,

she did about 10 small ones, then looked for more income saying one needed a laser, which i had done, didnt need to be done,[cost 4500bt]

i go back to OZ each year to have them done as i have had them done for 30 years so i know my skin cancers,

i am due back in OZ dec, but want some on my back done now, so i will go and see another doc at the dermo clinic at BPH,NOT DOC ANNA.

That aldara cream sounds good, if i can get some i'll try it.

i'll pass on info when i go later.

    thanks

    cat

It really works well and it's pretty amazing. The cream only goes after the abnormal cells and no scar. I'm thrilled going to BKK everytime for a check up but, really not that big of a deal as I fly in and out every 6 mounths, so I go to the doctor before and the airport depending if I'm coming or going. I really like my Doctor.

  16. Not in denial Girlx. I'm just bored and offended by your comments. Not just you, but plenty of people that have been in Thailand for years and complain and write the same posts over and over again. If you don't like the rules or the lack of them leave. It's not going to be any different any place else in the Kingdom you know that.

I accept how things are run on the island.
