  1. View from the campground at Phang Rat, there's beach here, we regularly ride there. The river is the border between Chanthaburi and Rayong provinces. The seawall shown here, immediately past that is coast/beach to Prasae which is mostly inaccessible due to the mangroves forest towards Paknam Prasae, and continues to the better-known Laem Mae Pim beach with all its resorts. Local signposts have English as Phang Rad, Phang Rat, or either of those as one word.
  2. Having read recently of the navy conscript in trouble for releasing a video showing he was assigned to effectively be housemaid to a senior officer's wife including having to handwash her lingerie, surely there's opportunity for a specialist squad of not-exactly-men who could take such roles in the military?
  3. When we lived in Phuket a neighbour slipped and fell in his bathroom, hit his head on the handbasin, knocked out. He was found semi-conscious by the housekeeper who had come to collect his laundry. He recovered ok, but I expect she may still be suffering nightmares from seeing a naked 72 year old Welshman. We built in 2018 and have non-slip tiles in bathroom/ shower areas but when wet, not entirely non-slip though to date I'm the only one to have taken a small fall there. And no glass doors in there.
  4. Don't upset the 80% of posters here whose sole relationship ability involves a paid encounter on Soi 6!
  5. Or a reading lesson. As has been pointed out many times, error in first post corrected several times, she has two nieces and one nephew. She is not a mother or grandmother.
  6. There's one in Chanthaburi city: House of Dogs. No entry fee, they sell small containers of dog treats @ 40 baht. Cafe area is separated from the canine area, customers to use the provided handwash going either way between rooms. I can sit with my drink and watch from the cafe while daughter and friends play with around 15 dogs, from corgi (only time I've seen one here) up to German shepherd with various sizes in between. There's always at least one staff member in the dog area. Dogs have the indoor area plus outside exercise area. Not overly fond of dogs however they're well behaved and appear well groomed and cared for. Note: they also have dog-shaped cookies and cakes. We always eat the ears first.
  7. Yes, as a Chanthaburi local I've been following these findings as each one is reported on local Facebook pages, here's the actual photo of the one yesterday from Thairath (not the photo from Bangkok Post 16 March as the Thaiger have used) As far as I know, all but three 'finds' have been sacks of 20 one kilo packages, as this latest one is. Two have been loose packages and one (I think possibly dodgy) had 19 one kilo packages handed to police. An earlier police report stated they believed approx 1000kg had been thrown overboard by smugglers in the Gulf 25 February 2024 which explains the small shells/barnacles attached- so far they've been found along the Trat (incl Koh Chang last week), Chanthaburi and Rayong coastlines. Here's the 19, Rayong 17 March 2024
  8. after 104 posts, time for the actual Reddit thread, which may have been fictional / hoax / wind-up as so many are on Reddit - the poster daleted their account and the thread was closed 12 days ago. Yet now it's 'news'. What is obvious is that she was not a grandmother but had been married before - an error in the first post of this thread that's got so many in a state of outrage . . . Loosen your Depends and have a read: Was I stupid to agree to the dowry? Hi all, so someone’s recently posted a question about how much did the married men pay for dowry. Many people responded that they’d paid ‘0’, or the money they had paid was returned to them. That to me was quite surprising and so my question is: was I dumb to pay? I married my wife in 2022 after four years of talking online. She is from Isan, living with her mom and two sisters (both older). My wife is 47 (two years older than me), divorced and without University education. She insisted that I would pay 300.000ThB, but at the end she knocked it down to 150K and 80K in gold. Unfortunately, I have never seen the money again and I’m not quite sure what happened to it. My wife told me that her mom has it, but I’m not quite sure if I can trust her. Whan I know is that less than a week after the wedding, her nephew and niece got a new iPhone and a new iPad. Another niece got a new scooter few weeks after that. I don’t want to be making any assumptions, but it seems as a big of a coincidence. I don’t really want to get into a debate how much of dowry one should pay, because we’re not purchasing cows on the market and I respect the tradition. On the other hand, I would like to know your honest opinion: was I being stupid to get myself into this marriage?
  9. She was not a grandmother - as per the actual Reddit thread not the double translated and incorrect edition that was in OP. The genuine article stated she had two nieces and one nephew who received gifts several weeks later. The faux outrage continues!
  10. The question should be is just how active were UK police in seeking this man? Or was he just an old name on an old list of 'wanted' who landed back at the airport. Presumably he arrived with a valid UK passport, could have been his third or fourth renewal while out of UK. Wonder if he was receiving any UK pension?
  11. Yes the same old topics from the past 20 years seem to be on automated rotation ... bum gun every seven days, sinsot ten days, but the most common are along the lines of "I'm going to Chiang Mai tomorrow will the air be clear?" "Will Thailand be hot in April?" "I saw a dog sleeping outside 7-11. Do I have rabies?"
  12. The 'netizens' ... when 200 people comment on one random forum (Reddit ) thread from two weeks ago and since closed ... it's now 'news' picked up by media and put on another forum. I'll start a thread on Reddit about this thread. Watch this space.
  13. The Reddit thread this refers to is still online. I post occasionally on the Thai Reddits. There are many fictional / hoax threads (as with all forums) I note this one was posted by someone who has since deleted their account, a one-off effort. Secondly, appears it may have been google translated to Thai and back to English as the OP in this thread differs from the Reddit post. For example, there were two nieces and one nephew (NO grandchildren) who received gifts 'a few weeks after'. And the marriage was 2022 not 2023. Quoting a random and likely / possibly fictional Reddit post as 'news' then putting it in Thai and translating back to English... 'news fluff' yet here it's immediate outrage.
  14. Chanthaburi since March 2011 when the only office was at Pong Nam Ron 60km away, from about 2013 there's the second provincial office conveniently located in the city. I've never had any problem - and they even answer the phone (!) when I've had inquiries as I was for a few years working short term contracts out of Thailand. I put a note here about my last in-person 90 day report in February, I was there before opening at 8.30am and out the door 8.32.
  15. We've had a monitor lizard take up residence in our undeveloped jungle/ pond area. We're town fringe I've never seen one anywhere near here in 13yrs, previously only nearer the coast About 1.2m length but half that is tail. We're ok as long as it stays on that side of the wall. An addition to the squirrels (5) and birdlife.
  16. From the NZ Newshub yesterday 30 March 2024, interview with Hamish Day's wife: "I explained [to son Jake aged 9] they are not alone - he’s with Matt - and we are going to try everything we can to get them home," she told the Herald. "It could be weeks, it could be months." Jake asked: "Could it be years?" "And I said, ‘it might be," she told the Herald.
  17. As they entered "not guilty" pleas to all charges I presume they are waiting for a trial date while still in custody as police opposed bail. No hurry! Someone here may remember the Englishman who swore f... at a female immigration officer and ripped his passport from her hands in Phuket some years back. Recall he was in custody for several months before they got around to his court appearance.
  18. More found today, believe that's over 400kg that's either been washed up or 'caught' by fishermen. These packages have been found along the coast Trat, Chanthaburi and Rayong. Latest 20kg found on a Koh Chang beach today 27 March 2024, pic from Thairath, same individual 1kg packaging with gold and silver fish logos.
  19. Watched the Remake of Roadhouse (2024) on the weekend The 'bad guy' Knox is played by Conor McGregor, he looks to be a giant in the fight scenes, taller than his opponents. Wiki lists him as: Height: 5 ft 8 in 173 cm Weight: 70 kg; 11 st 1 lb Yet here he is with the main actor, Jake Gyllenhall, who is 5 ft 11 in 180cm Big shoes?
  20. Thairath 27 March 2024 On March 27, 2024, Mrs. Naruemon Pinyosinwat, Thai Trade Representative, met with Shanghai East Best Foreign Trade (SEBFT) executives and Tencent executives at the Foreign Office in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia to report on the progress of Thai shipments to China and sales platforms in China. Thai Trade Representative Shanghai East Best has signed a contract to buy 3,000 containers of durian from farmers in Chanthaburi province worth more than 10 billion baht, of which the first 400 containers will be delivered to China by April.
  21. First durian of 2024, this is a kra-dum variety, smaller (aboiut 1kg) than the more commonly grown monthong
  22. Bought a Click ABS late December for daughter when she starts uni in June, meantime I'm using it, 2300km so far mainly open road / highway. Will be fine for our purposes though I did like the ADV. Shop had the Captain America and Ironman ADV160 models - think if there was a Wonder Woman one I may have been under pressure to buy for her! There's a guy on YouTube 'Living with Serg' who has been touring Thailand on his 2023 ADV160 a lot of highway plus some dirt/gravel roads, including Bangkok to the top of the country down to Koh Chang back to Bangkok he hasn't mentioned any problems.
  23. 27 December 2022 at Kanchanaburi https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2022/12/27/irish-man-dies-after-falling-from-train-in-thailand/
  24. No. My two DLs issued December 2023 have my (pink non-Thai) ID card number, not my passport number. Regardless of that fact, a DL shows nothing re visa status, so no 'necessary information'.
  25. No NZ - completely separate licences Begin with a Learner motorcycle licence (theory and basic handling skills test) which allows the person to have further lessons with a full licence holder or professional instructor; after a minimum six months take a practical test, if passed person moves to a Restricted Licence which and has restrictions on hours (5am-10pm only), no pillion, and limited cc/power, then have a further practical test to gain a full licence - this is to be completed within two years of the initial Learners test.
