Been looking at this myself as I'm after a new truck, been to many auctions just to have a look and so that I could talk with as many mechanics/people in the trade as possible. They all said stay away from fords and the majority of people recommended Toyota, I actually wanted a Ford but think I'm swaying towards a Toyota now.

I couldn't agree more with your post, I've been going to lamai for the past 9 years and even in that short time I've seen a drastic change and definitely for the worse such a shame because I fell in love with the place first time I went. I was there for 2days just before Xmas and it was like a ghost town.

I read that this law doesn't apply to an entertainment establishment ie bar providing they've got the correct licence of course

Why not a slapper from elsewhere?Rent a bird for the night and get her to teach you.
Winner winner chicken dinner
Oh yes, some slapper from the Isan countryside will know all the delicacies that Thailand has to offer
The OP mentioned common dishes not Thai delicacies.
Wow......using the word slapper to refer to issan women or women from elsewhere! What true gentlemen you are, I'm am truly embarrassed, have just a little bit of respect when posting on a forum for everyone to see.

I'm so proud if you all, not one RIP in sight
Quite shameful eh but they do say bad news is good news, unfortunately that's how the world is now, nobody gives a hoot about anyone but themselves!

Pattaya can be sleazy, dangerous and hedonistic but I must say I love the place, I'm currently living in ubon where i came back to from a 15 day holiday in Pattaya end of January and found it very hard to re-adjust to slower life in issan.
I think if you live in pattaya you need hobbies, a routine and self discipline with alcohol just at weekends if possible otherwise it's an early grave, seen a lot of people in patts constantly on the ale.

Security officers, you mean some low paid, untrained persons! With a badge!
What a rude comment! At least they're out working instead of sitting on the street begging or out robbing someone!!!!!@ idiot

Oh you know. Stuff.
what?please continue in my recently opened topic...I rarely drink during the day. Better things to do.
I'd hate to end up in a situation where the only thing I could find to fill my days was get drunk.
Unfortunately if you don't have self discipline and will power its a very easy path to go down as I sure a lot of people on here will agree.

Lets face it. Some things are so cheap in the LOS. Some examples...
1. Thai post office.... To send huge boxes anywhere in Thailand by tracking is really cheap. I posted a huge box with a heavy pram in it and it only cost thb140. It would have been around $40 back home
2. Water bills.... We have a 3 br home with 2 bathrooms. My water bill each month is 400 baht. Back home water is really expensive. I have a friend back home who said that he was paying $100 a month minimum on a 3 b/r house with same size family as me.
3. Electricity... My monthly electricity bills are extremely cheap at the moment thb 500 to 700 a month. We are not using the air con yet. Obviously it will be up in april but no where near the prices back home. My sister back home said that she had a bill of $600 a quarter during winter. Another friend in a medium size home says he walks around turning lights off etc in his house everyday to reduce the bills. His quarterly electricity bill was $900 but he has 4 kids.
Do you have any other examples
cheers
1. The post office doesn't steal things out of my mail in my home country.
2. I wouldn't drink that dodgy water at any price.
3. In my home country my electrical can't kill me. It's grounded (earthed.)
Next.
Wow good job you don't live in Thailand eh neversure, you'd probably hate it!

As long as your a confident/competent driver you won't have a problem, bangkok is fine anytime of the day again as long as your a confident/competent driver. Just be aware of thai people on the road, no road sense and no driving skills. Keep your license on you at all times. I've driven and riden in issan, bangkok and hua hin with no problems, police tend to look at my English licence and hand it back straight away because they can't understand it so I've never had an issue there.

My gf's family had a 4 bed villa built on their own land in ubon, obviously they didn't have to pay for the land, her father drafted the plans, her uncle along with local workmen did the work (he didn't do it cheaper than anyone else)build completed, ready to move in cost around 850,000baht, unfurnished with no aircon. Water, electric, sewerage etc already on site as it was next to their existing house in the middle of the village,

Hua hin to krabi is across land, I looked at doing the trip at Xmas but decided it was too much hassle, I personally didn't like krabi, very expensive, hardly any beer bars and full of muslims, I couldn't even buy beer from the local shop next door to my hotel because they didn't sell alcohol. Aonang does have some lovely beaches though.

Sure, something got lost in translation there but for 700tb pp to Lanta is not a bad deal. Thats what the ferry runs actually a bit more, 800 I think.
Be careful who you book with, my friends and I booked this trip with an agent which she charged 700baht pp. After setting off, after about 25 minutes we realised we were going north, over the bridge to the mainland and so we travelled all the way to koh lanta by minibus, not the pleasant and relaxing ferry ride we were expectingTake the ferry from Phuket via phi phi to Krabi and another ferry to Lanta.
Yes, OP, these last two posters are your options.
Ground:opposed to the schlep of taxi to Phuket Town to only board another sche*t bus, to then cover ground you already covered, then off the island for a 3+ hour ride to the first car ferry , actually an hour just to get off the island make that an even longer schlep, I'd PM poster laban for the van company airport to Lanta. At 700tb this is a good option.
Nothing got lost in translation, she just ripped us off, that actual trip by minibus was on her itinerary sheet at 600bt pp, the ferry journey was 800bt pp like you said but she said she would discount because there were 8 of us, we asked her to clarify the details of the trip on no less tgan 3 times to which she replied that we would be getting picked up and taken to the port to catch the ferry, when asked which port she pointed at the port on the map.

only about 30 day overstay for one guy, and receives a 5 year ban...... harsh
Not harsh at all, why should the majority of us take the time and effort to go and PURCHASE the correct visa when these 2 russians, like most russians, think they can do what they want when they want!

Old? diabetic and high blood pressure! Good luck selling your kidney!
On a serious note, the truck driver (if responsible) and his insurance should be paying for this. If he wasn't insured then he should be in jail. Bet this woman still votes for whoever gives her 300baht though. You reap what you sow!
wow......good luck to you in the future......what goes around comes around and with an attitude like that, if ever you need help in the future I don't think many people will come rushing.

Ao Nang - Krabi - mid south Thailand... great community of long stay tourist and expats, Local FB group of such people - 2000 members with all sorts of interaction. Krabi / Ao Nang Locals FB Group... outings for such things as Trash Heroes to clean up the beach,,, and about a hundred more things... Get out of Bkk
Sorry but Ao nang.......worst place I've been in Thailand, full of muslims and hardly any decent places to get a beer and extremely expensive!!!!!! Definitely a place to avoid!

"They will medically treat him to at least the humanitarian level of an indigent, won't they?"
Thats not a given.. They usually dump these deadbeat cases on a Thai government hospital.. And from there his options and chances of decent treatment and good outcomes drastically reduce.
unfortunately 100% right at samui hospital, I've known people being asked to leave because they didn't have the right insurance or money to pay for the treatment

I've heard sometimes it happens in the UK and Europe too? Am I wrong?
at football matches in uk you might have opposing supporters have a bit of a punch up but nothing on the scale of murders like the idiots in Egypt, Europe on the other hand can be very violent
Where do Thai locals go for a romantic get-away?

I've been to a lovely hotel in hua hin called sawan boutique resort, in the hills about 10 minutes from the main town, lovely and quiet and a very beautiful hotel, worth a look if your interested.
