  1. We have a tiler here putting new tiles on the walls and floor of our bathroom.

Yesterday he finished the white tiles on the walls. Today he is about to finish the black floor tiles. I asked him how long does it take for that concrete under the tiles to dry. He said 3 hours. He said he will come back later today to put the grout in between the gaps on all surfaces.

Is that correct. Can he stand on that floor after just 3 hours?

    thanks

thanks for the info. I didnt know Hoi An was close. I think this is a fine option then for 5 day trip from bkk. we can split half time in da nang and half in hoi an. Do you think thats do-able if we fly into da nang on a wed and out on same sunday?

    cheers

  3. Ive read Thai passport holders dont need a visa. What about Oz passport. I suspect I do need to get an Evisa. If so what is the official link?

Would you recommend going to Da Nang?

I have fond memories of Hannoi and cant decide. Looking for interesting 5 days quick trip from Bangkok. Any suggestions?

    thanks

  4. I live with my Thai wife and child (7 years old) here in thailand. Myself and my child have Australian passports.

We were planning to visit oz for a holiday. The THAI airline website is warning us about the 'Digital passport dec' which is a bit confusing. Its saying that ALL passengers need to fill out the Digital Passenger Dec DPD. But then it says fully jabbed oz citizens, PRs and eligible visa holders are exempt from these requirements and  do not need to apply for a travel exemption.    So do I have to fill it out or not???

My wife and I are fully vaccinated. But my last AZ jab was over 3 months ago. Same for my wife. My daughter has not had any vaccines.

    https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/covid19/vaccination-testing#content-index-2

    The above website says:
''Travel to Australia is only available if an individual is automatically exempt from Australia’s COVID-19 border restrictions or has been granted an individual travel exemption. For some travellers, this depends on your vaccination status.
    •    If you are an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia, then you are exempt from Australia’s border restrictions and do not need to apply for an individual travel exemption, regardless of your vaccination status.''
    ________
So from the above it seems that myself and my child do not have to worry about the vac requirement but we both still have to fill out the DPP. It says:
''Children in the below groups can travel under the same arrangements as vaccinated travellers:
    •    Aged under 12 years;''
    _______
Thus it seems that we should not have any issue with boarding our unvaccinated child who has an oz passport and is under the age of 12.

My wife has a 3 year visa subclass 600 visa. Does this mean she is exempt from the above? She is fully jabbed but the last booster might have been greater than 3 months ago. Is this an issue?

Its all a bit confusing to me...
    thanks

Kudos for the couple on their achievements, if they were near Bkk i'd to visit and buy their products, but doesn't he put himself out there to be scrutinised by jealous others who might inform on him to the immigration as some one who engaged in farming without the proper permit assuming he doesn't have any?...

why does the first post have to be about if he has a WP or not. Quite ridiculous to be honest.

    nice bottle of Hendrick's gin

That is absolutely shocking and rather sad.

Shocking because alcohol is an evil killer and home/life wrecker.

It is estimated that alcohol is directly responsible for 3 million deaths per year worldwide, whereas Cannabis is slightly lower at 0 deaths (yes that is zero).

Never mind the poor suffering wives who patiently wait on her abusive husband to get home, her blackened eyes are running with tears because she knows that if she doesn't take the beating tonight, her children will.

Never mind the kid not understanding why some drunk had run down and killed his father on Christmas Eve.

It is an evil and unforgiving drug.

Sad because despite your dependency on this evil drug, you have the cahoonas to come onto the cannabis only to try to disrupt threads by posting your holier than though trash.

Sad that you are angry that consenting adults might 'legally' have more fun than you, despite the fact that the laws are designed so that you will not be affected in any way (apart from your growing bitterness).

steven, you have been on these boards for far too long to not understand that trolling is childish and not appreciated on this board.

You have made your views clear and we appreciate your feedback on this matter.

Now, if you have no further interest in Cannabis, please feel free to stop trolling the Cannabis threads by simply ignoring any threads related to the issue.

Thank you and please don't hit your ass with the door on the way out.

so true what you say about alcohol. years ago I was at a restaurant with my old uncle and my blind aunt. he suddenly slapped her on her back and laughed. I looked at him as if to say <deleted>. Later I found out he was hitting her heaps. He was a chronic pisshead and died due to alcohol abuse. In his younger years he was a good guy- before the addictioon

You'll sign a sell\buy contact at the land office.

But isnt it another layer of protection to have an independent contract signed at an attorneys office? In the unlikely event that theres corruption at the land office or whatever.... if someone changes the name from my daughter to someone else. I know its highly unlikely but at least we would have evidence of a contract for sale/buy for the said asset.

Thai nationals don't have to show where the money came from.

but when we bought a building 3 yrs ago they made me sign a letter stating that the funds for the purchase didnt come from me. Obviously if I didnt go to the land office then there would be no such letter required. The asset was in my wifes name as well.

If my wife holds the bank draft and I stay at the back seating area then maybe they will not question anything as the chanote is going to be in my childs name.

Surely my child is going to have to sign something at the land office if the chanote is in her name?

If no house master appointed the landlord can do it, but in your case it will be you and your wife as the minor's guardians.

so are you saying that the 'house master' is only appointed at the district office not the land office?

    thanks

So did I, which is why I came to Thailand after losing north of $600,000 to two women in Australia. Moved on, put down roots here which, barring bureaucratic stupidity, will see me out.

I focus on the positive, every day here for me is a new adventure.

Boredom is self-inflicted, not possible to be bored if one is doing something creative.

You married 2 ozzie gals. ha ha. I met an electrician who was on wife number 4. I asked him why does he do it. He said he hates being single

Wow, 10km is huge in this hot environment. I struggle to do 3km in the morning sun

  10. I'm unsure if I will do it but maybe in the future I was thinking of buying an asset in my childs name. If you have any knowledge on this please answer any of the que below

    Questions:

    1. Do the rules of one land office differ from province to province in relation to this issue?

    2. If an attorney prepares a contract, is it solely between my child and the. seller? Can a child sign a contract if under 10 yrs old

    3. I assume my wife has to be there at the land office to approve this and sign forms?

    4. Should I put my name as designated 'house manager' in the contract. I thought it would be a good idea as then I can show this to the amphur office if need be.

    5. If I arrange the bank draft from my money I assume no issues? Ive heard they can make me sign a letter at the land office stating that the money didnt come from me only the wife. Is this correct? i.e. no B.S rules as to where the funds come from the same as buying a condo?

    6. Does the tabian bahn go in my childs name? What about the house manager issue? How does this work?

    7. Can utility bills be put in my name if Im the 'house manager'

Thanks for your opinions on any of this

One guy in the states was in another city and had CCTV footage in his hotel proving he was there. But he had actually flown in, killed five people, then flown back and appeared at the hotel desk asking for mail…..very clever.

  12. I sleep with Air con 'Cool' option 26 degree's with 2 small windows open. Im constantly waking up dehydrated with a dry mouth around 2am/ 3am. This never used to happen and thus either an issue with the machine or I have health problem. Anyone else?

Do you sleep with A/C or windows open/ fan?

During March and April I would close the windows and have A/C on all night.

A few years ago I used to just have a strong fan all night and no A/C. But now Im used to having A/C all night.

    What about you.

    cheers

  13. If anyone has recently been divorced to a Thai lady in the past 2 yrs could you perhaps comment below.

The marriage between the wife and I is on the rocks a little bit. Maybe we will stay together, maybe we will divorce. I dont know. But Im interested to know the logistics if we do cut ties.

We both invested in a business 4 yrs ago. I put in a lot more money than she did and she says she will buy me out if we finish.

Can I assume the process might be:

    1. Agree on amount to pay me out

    2. Put it in a divorce agreement/ contract

    3. She pays the money to my account

    4. Head down to the amphur office and sign

We are both not into drama and I thus wanted to know do we only need an attorney to draw up the divorce agreement and sign it at their office?

Im ok for my child to live with her but I would want 50% access stipulated in the contract.

If you have recently divorced in Thailand I would appreciate your comments and opinions

    thanks

I applied for Thai citizenship last year. It is most definitely not impossible to get, you do not need a lawyer, and it is not expensive. In fact, it costs way less than PR. With that out of the way, there is a new requirement for a formal Thai language test to be given to all applicants. I don't know what the level will be, but it almost certainly will not be at a very advanced level. Basic reading, writing and conversation will be plenty for you to pass the test and get maximum points for the language criteria. As others have noted, you definitely want to learn to read and write. You should do that concurrently with your conversational language study.

Thai is not Chinese. Their written system is an alphabet with rules. While it is way more complex than English, it is not super difficult to get up to speed. A matter of months should be all you need to read road signs and the like. There is a Thai civics test that will be administered in Thai (that might actually be the language test, I am not sure about that) and you should concentrate on that after the first few months or the first year of study. It is not over the top difficult, Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Thai citizenship applications are evaluated on a points-based merit system. Education, income level and Thai language ability are the most important categories in the points system. You can easily find the details searching Google or this forum. If you don't have a degree, get one if you can, but it is not strictly necessary. Also, be sure you get your name in a Yellow Book if haven't already. Being in the book for 5 years gets you "bonus points".

Anyway, if you want citizenship here, you can most likely get it. Learn the requirements, make a plan, and execute it. And be really, really, really patient ????

EDIT: You don't have to sing the anthem if you are married to a Thai national. Also, there is a thread on Asean Now (ThaiVisa) called something like "My story of getting Thai citizenship". The thread has run for many years and is still active today. You can find it easily using the forum search tools. Lots of people currently going through the process (including myself) are active on that forum. You can get any citizenship question answered there.

THanks so much for your comment. Do you mind if I ask.... from the time of applying and subsequently getting the citizenship approved 100%.... how long was that exactly?

I had my first lesson on the weekend and today now have memorised the first 4 letters of the Thai alphabet and can say it correctly as well. I will use my child everyday to help. Something to do whilst stuck in traffic.

Everyweek do you suggest I just keep trying to learn 4 more letters? How to write and say it? Should I just keep doing that?

I haven't used my memory for ages and kind of looking forward to the challenge. Sounds weird I know but I think this could be good for me to avoid early onset dementia.

Finally, do you mind if I ask what technique you used to remember all the images correctly in the alphabet? Was it just writing it down 50 times in a row? How did you actually do it?

    thanks

  15. I'm married to a Thai lady and have a Work Permit. I understand that I can bypass PR and apply for Citizenship after 3 yrs evidence of marriage/ working and paying taxes here. I know that its mandatory that I can pass a conversation test in Thai language......

My Thai language skills are below par. Im above beginners level for sure. I had lessons a few yrs ago and then got lazy. I've been slowly learning vocab but need new lessons starting this weekend.

My tutor asked me what I wanted to learn. For citizenship do I only have to have speaking skills in Thai language. Do I need to know how to read Thai or write it?

If you've had lessons before any tips are appreciated. I have a list of 100 most common English verbs. Started to learn some of the translated words in Thai. Is this a good start?

Or should I be learning the thai alphabet?

I read somewhere that I might have to sing the Thai national anthem. Is this for real? I suppose I can ask my child to help me with this one for the next 2 years?

Finally, do you think 1 lesson per week and extra stuff at home will be enough prep to pass the test in 2 years?

    thanks
