  1. My wife's 10 visa is set to expire soon, and she is about to begin the process of renewing it.  On the US Embassy in Thailand's website, they provide a link to a company that allows Thais to renew their visa by mail if you meet a list of criteria (same name, currently residing in Thailand, fingerprints already taken at embassy, etc...).

    https://www.ustraveldocs.com/th/th-niv-visarenew.asp

For a number of reasons I wouldn't normally use an agency, but the fact that this company is listed on the embassy website is making me think twice.

Does anyone have experience using this method and company to renew a 10 year B1/B2 visa?

    Thanks very much!  ????

PS--I did a search on the topic but didn't see anything.  Apologies if this has already been covered.

On a side note, those of you below 60, get a teaching position, register yourself to the Thai social security, stick the job out for a year and then make regular payments of less than 400 baht a month after U quit the job if you don't like it.!

Is this still possible?  I remember reading about it in the past, but thought it had been phased out for foreigners.

OK, so why havent the BDS supporters also campaigned to boycott Chinese goods ?

For the reason of Chinas treatment of the Tibetans on Uigars ?

I regularly donate money to the Red Cross.  I occasionally make a donation to a children's hospital near where I grew up.  This is where I choose to donate.  I haven't, for example, made any donations to AIDS charities or cancer organizations.  It doesn't mean that I think that these organizations shouldn't be supported.  In fact, I know that my sister does donate to the cancer society, and I think it's great that she does.

  4. I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum, but I'm sure the mods will move it elsewhere if appropriate.

About a year ago I remember seeing an advertisement in a Thai publication for a train tour through some of India's famous Buddhist temples and landmarks.  Does anyone have a link to a Thai travel agency/tour company (with Thai speaking guides) which specializes in this type of excursion?

I hope I'm explaining this clearly.  If not, let me know and I'll try again.

    Thanks in advance.  ????

Just let everyone know that we got Rebekah home this morning. She was taken straight to the RAH in Paisley who checked her over and carried out some blood tests. She still has an elevated cell count however the hospital do not consider this too much of a problem as they are confident that she has beaten the infection. The A+E Consultant went through Rebekah’s medical report from Thailand and was generally happy with her treatment, however it turns out that it was a serious bacterial infection all along. The viral brain infection turned out to be a precautionary diagnoses although the RAH said that they would’ve treated it the same way with antivirals whilst awaiting results. It was also advised that Rebekah continue her recovery at home with follow up GP contact and as such she is now home.

Above is the most recent update.

After she arrived in Scotland, the RAH sent her home to recover from the bacterial infection that the Thai hospital was treating properly.  According to the update, they didn't even keep her overnight.

    Her gofundme raised £25,175

I imagine she'll be posting photos of her upcoming travels on instagram soon.  ????️

  6. Can anyone suggest a shop that will deliver kosher salt?  I want to do some pickling and table salt won't do the trick.

And even better, is there a Thai alternative?

    Thanks very much!

  7. My 1st class insurance is coming up for renewal soon.

7 year old Honda Jazz with 35,000 km.

Viriya is looking for 12,000 THB.

Does that sound reasonable to you?  Seems high to me since we've only made a few small claims over the years.

Perhaps I should look into dropping down to 2+1?

Immigration will only do the residence certificate for the province where you are living.

They will issue one for the house you wife is renting. There is no requirement for the rental agreement to be in your name.

    Thanks for your reply, ubonjoe.

Sometimes I'm not all that bright, so just to clarify:

If only my wife's name is on a rental contract in Phayao, the Phayao immigration office will issue me a residence certificate?

And should I assume that if the Phayao immigration office does issue the residence certificate, then the Phayao Transport Office will accept it?

BTW, I should have mentioned earlier that I'm on a one year, multi-entry non O visa.

    Thanks again.  ????

  9. I need a residence certificate from immigration to renew my driver's license.  Normally this wouldn't be a concern, but here's my situation:

My wife and I are renting a house and she's on the lease but I'm not.  In theory we could change the lease to add my name, but I don't want to bother the landlord if it's not entirely necessary.  For one thing she lives far from here and it would be a headache just dealing with Thai Post/EMS.

However, my wife does own a house in different province than the one we're living in (800 km from present location) and I'm listed on the tabien bahn.

So basically I have two questions:

    1. Will my local immigration office give me a residence certificate for a tabien bahn from another province?
    2. Will the local Transport Dept. renew my license with a residence certificate that is based on a tabien bahn from another province?

    Thanks very much.

  10. Headed for Mukdahan tomorrow, and was surprised by something I saw in this thread.

Can someone who has recently been to the consulate in Savanakhet please confirm if they require a letter from my wife requesting that the consulate grant me a Non- O visa based on marriage, or is that only for other consulates/embassies?

And if it is required, what should be included in the letter?

    Thank you!

  11. I'd like to rent a power washer for a day to remove the moss and mildew from some outdoor stairs and driveway.

Any suggestions on shops or individuals that would rent a pressure washer in Chiang Rai?

    Thanks!  ????

Don't know whether it is endorphins or something else, but I always feel better AFTER I have worked out - not while I am exercising so it is clearly not a runner's high if such a thing even exists.

Runner's high is elusive, but definitely exists.  I've never experienced it doing any other type of exercise, including rowing.

  13. I had a good experience with Avion and would recommend them to anyone in Thailand who is interested in buying a Concept 2.

I'm still rowing 2 times per week for an hour and making sure I hit at least 12,000 meters.  It would be more times per week, but I do other types of exercise on other days so I don't get bored.  However, rowing can still be boring sometimes, so I watch TV or movies with bluetooth headphones and it usually goes pretty quickly.

That used Concept 2 for approximately 30,000 is a very good deal.  If I were still in the market, I'd be taking a look to see the condition it's in.
