  1. I wonder if there is a dog adoption agency/group in Thailand that specializes in this type of dog.  You could satisfy your daughter's desire for a special breed and also give an unwanted dog a home.

    Good luck.

The device is used by 3 - 6 people during the whole day. One 'serious' user with a laptop and the other people with telephones for facebook, games and youtube (songs, soaps and mor lam). There may be a limit but so far never had a problem. Note that I do not use Netflix or the likes.

Could I bother you to post the make and model of the pocket wifi you're using?

    Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply.  How many hours per day are you using the pocket wifi?  Does the device overheat if you use it for extended periods of time?

When you say, "unlimited" do you really mean without limits?  Or do they lower the download speed after a certain amount of data has been downloaded?

  4. My wife and I will be staying at her mother's house for the next 2-3 months and we're going to need some sort of internet package that will give us high speed and about 10  GB download per month.

3BB installed broadband the house a few years ago, but we just called them and they said that they would need to install new wires (at a cost of approximately 3,000 baht) and they only have year long packages.  So, right now I'm thinking that's out.

    What are our other options?

I've read about "pocket wifi" but since it will probably be in use up to 12 hours/day, and I don't know if that will overwhelm a device that I believe is supposed to be a short term solution not an all day/every day utility.  Am I wrong about this?

    Any other ideas?

I'm happy to provide more details if I've left anything out.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/comments.

  5. I just purchased the Concept 2 Model D  with PM 5 from Malaysia for $1,060.00

I'm told that there are still a few hoops to jump through and I'll post details about the import taxes and other delivery issues once it arrives at my door.

Have to admit that I'm pretty excited to have my own rower.  Right now I do about 25,000 meters/week in two separate hour long sessions at the gym, but I'm expecting at least a 50% increase once the machine is actually in my home.

By the way, what do you guys use to prevent or reduce calluses?

For non-skin cancers, it should not. But quite likely the policy will exclude skin cancers.

I contacted Cigna and filled out the application, and they sent me a policy with the following exclusions:

SKIN LESIONS/ CHANGES and any associated or related conditions or symptoms and any complications (this exclusion can be reviewed at your first renewal)

Does this exclusion seem straightforward or are they leaving themselves a lot of wiggle room?  I've heard many horror stories about insurance companies, so I want to make sure that the above isn't a catch-all that include every type of cancer imaginable.

Thanks again for your assistance, Sheryl.  I don't have much experience in these matters, so it's greatly appreciated.

  7. Hi,

I recently got a 1 year, multi entry, Non-O visa based on marriage and I have a few questions:

    1. Is it valid for one year from the date I first enter Thailand or the date the visa was issued?
    2. Does this visa allow me to enter and leave Thailand as many times as I want during the visa's validity or is there a limit to the number of entries?
    3. Do I have to leave Thailand at least every 90 days?
    4. Can I wait until the year is almost expired before applying for an extension?
    5. If I can wait until the year is up to apply for the extension, should I put 400,000 baht in a regular Thai bank account in the 10th month?

After reading other threads I think I know the answers to one or two of those questions, but would be more grateful for confirmation.

    Thanks!

  8. Right now I'm seriously considering going with Cigna Silver with a high deductible ($3,000) and high cost share (30%, OOP $5,000).

I'm 50 years old and in very good health. I know that could change in an instant, but up to this point in my life I have had very few health issues that required medical care.  The main reason I'm getting health insurance is that I don't want my savings wiped out if something does go very wrong.  Of course I don't want to pay $8,000, but at this point of my life I think this is a reasonable path to take.  But I'm willing to listen if you think I'm not thinking clearly or being foolish.

Another poster on this thread recommended that people should talk to other people who have experience with the insurance company that they're considering.

Does anyone here have direct experience with Cigna and Thai hospitals?

    Thanks very much.

  9. Hi,

I'm not entirely sure which type of insurance I should get, and thought I'd ask those with more experience.  Quite frankly, I don't understand much at all about health insurance.

    The particulars:

    • I'm 50 years old and I'll be arriving in Thailand this January on a Non-O based on marriage, but will be in and out of Thailand for the first 3 or 4 months of the year.  However, my main "residence" will be Thailand during that time.
    • I'll be spending a few weeks in Europe and perhaps a week or two in the US assisting family members with various things.
    • I won't be employed during that time.
    • At the end of those 3-4 months, I will reside permanently reside in Thailand and will need health insurance.
    • There is a very good possibility that my wife will get a job with reasonable health insurance during those first few months, and I assume I'll be eligible for cover.

In you opinion, what type of insurance should I get for those first 3-4 months?

Happy to supply more information if needed.

    Thanks!
