Bangkok Airways about 7,300 baht return, so two people 14,600 baht. Add in a night's accommodation on the way down as you wouldn't want to do that drive in one hit, maybe 2,000 baht, so 16,600. Add in fuel - 3,000 baht minimum? So 19,600 baht.. Add in the cost of car rental in Samui while you are there (1,000 baht per day currently) and you would be over 25k for a week's trip.

14,000 baht is not massively cheaper but is a fair bit cheaper. And a hell of a lot less stress. It's not a journey that I need to make - I last drove to Samui two years ago and took two nights to break up the journey - but if I wanted to do it again I would definitely consider driving to Sattahip and taking the ferry for a stress free journey, have some food and a few beers and wake up there.

I don't think price is their USP.

Ok, that's all direct and the probably most convenient way. But I'd reckon train and bus to Chumphon or even flying to Surat Thani and take the ferry is much cheaper (possibly half price)

  2. So a return trip for two people and a car will cost me 14.000 THB if I calculated that correctly?

How can that compete against the already inflated flight tickets from Bangkok Airways (faster) and the other modes of transport (flying to Surat and ferry or train/bus to Chumphon and ferry)?

The bike has 3 power modes

In addition it also has a super sport button that gives 15 seconds of boost for overtaking. Top speed is 65km/hr. If you want more power then move up from the 1 kW motor as this is the base model. It seems fine for driving on dual carriage ways compared to my Honda Click.

    Quality seems good

But it has hub motor right? How concerned are you about the rainy season and driving through flooded areas?

I still have the mindset: hub drive scooters => cheap crap, middle drive with belt scooters and motorbikes => better quality

Unfortunately, this does not work navigation and Ora voice assistant only in Thai. There is also no English manual for the car neither as a book nor online offered in Thailand.

Voice assistant can unfortunately not be deactivated has at least in the early days very often unrequested, radio e.g. turned on when my wife drives with and we usually talk in Thai.

Google Maps works via CarPlay so delayed that it is not usable and apparently other customers have the same problem. Complaints have so far led to no problem resolution ...

Sounds all not good I am despite all this quite happy with the car ,-)

Google Maps via Android auto of Ora good cat requires a pretty new/fast phone.

My old realme 5 is almost unusable, my gf new Oppo works fast and smooth

  5. I'm having a ORA good cat as rental car.

Any idea how to change the language completely to English?

Menus on the small and big screen I have managed to change 95% to English. However, GPS and voice control still in Thai language.

Hope some farang owner can help me solve this mystery. Thank you

  6. Problem is and still will be the power of the senate to appoint a new prime minister. Reading the Thai Examiner article until the almost end, even if the now-opposition parties garner enough MP seats and decide against the senate, it will result in unstable government with limited spending powers. Everyone's denying a coup attempt, but with the military dominant senate still in place, the possibility is still not completely off the table.

Going to drive down on Monday. Visit to the Tesla pop up store in Central World then onto the show.

Seal is on my list to see

    https://www.sanook.com/auto/87091/

Sanook also has another article about the BYD Dolphin, saying orders can be made with delivery in July.

Nothing said for the Seal, unfortunately.

I would be surprised if you can see the inside of the car this time. Most likely not.

    I need a new car/ EV asap.

So 99% the MG 4 will it be.

Dealer said less than 2 months delivery time, more likely one month after financial documents are approved.

God, I wish it were those times again when you can step into the dealership and buy a new car right away from the showroom

I just checked, you can set the left shortcut button to bring up a shortcut menu and from there you can turn LKA off, you have to confirm it afterwards and you have to be wearing your seatbelt first.

Other options for that shortcut button are toggle android auto/apple car play, and bring up the 360 degree cameras.

Strangely in the European MG4 version this shortcut button let's you select the driving mode.

Don't know why the Thai version is different from that.

But I would appreciate to have this option here as it seems to be more useful to me than the shortcut menu, Android auto or 360° camera.

Maybe it can be changed in the future at MG workshop or third party car programming shop

They are available from every building materials supplier, manufactured locally and of varying quantities, cost about 4 ~ 6 baht each and have the worst characteristics of any build material.

Have you ever looked at any buildings in Thailand? From your questions it seems not, as they are probably the most commonly used for low cost building.

Have you looked at the provided link? I don't think these concrete bricks from CCP are comparable to locally made "grey stones" that you describe.

They're made in a factory under a standardized and certified process.

You're comparing hand mixed concrete by unskilled labor vs. ready-mix concrete from a dedicated plant.

I think they are silly options to even have, and just marketing.  Since needed for 'self driving' (would prove you're idiot to use), guess they add it to the marketing.

For me, it's just another option that could fail, and need replacing, as most complaints about vehicles today, are the options, and why I want as few as possible.

You can turn it off and it depends where you are driving.

But I don't want to miss ACC and TJA for driving on the motorway and inner city of BKK.

So much easier and relaxed. You don't have to do anything

  11. I want to revive this topic because I found this interesting concrete brick stones from CCP brand.

https://www.ccp.co.th/product/9621-9619/บล็อกก่อผนัง-hollow-block-มอก57-2560-มอก58-2560-มอก57-2533-มอก58-2533-astm-c177 (simply translate with Google translate)

They're categorized into non-load and load-bearing, which can eliminate the one or another reinforced concrete beam normally used in abundance in Thailand.

    They're available in 19 cm wall thickness and seem to have a good K-value with K-Value (W/mk) 0.1133+-0.047 R-Value(M2.K/W ) 1.676.

I guess the price is also cheaper than CLC or AAC bricks.

    What are your thoughts?

Be interesting to know how much fertiliser was used to speed growth?

For short term Urea will do the deal. It is cheap but not good for soil in the long term.

Depends how long you are going to let the grass seedling in the soil of that particular field.

Using manure, compost or any organic soil amendment will pay back in few years

i'll look more closely at a few options in a comparable price range at the motor show this week. i'm also hoping to get prices and delivery dates for ev-cars like:

    byd seal - byd han - byd tang - ioniq 5 - ioniq 6 - neta s - gwm lightning car - volvo ex 90 etc.

BYD Han and Tang most likely not coming to Thailand because they won't make a RHD version for it.

Neta S received bad reviews about built quality and operation comfort.

Ioniq 5 and 6 I guess hopelessly overpriced due to import tax

Ora Lightning, the interior totally turns me off....

Looking much forward to the BYD seal. Pricing and availability in Thailand
