Well, my wife got her spouses visa for the UK with no problems, very easy, which also entitled her to work, 2 years later permanent residency, 1 more year british passport. done and dusted mate.
At least the Uk offer its citizens spouses the chance to become a permanent residents, based purely on marriage, as long as you can support her without claim benefits.

Hi all,
My wife's sister told me that if you remain in Thailand longer than 20 years you will be able to get permanent stay, I am wondering if anybody else knows anything about this.

Thanks everyone, that's cleared that up nicely for me

Hi all,
I'm from the UK, I entered Thailand in November 2012 on a 3 month marriage visa, which I then extended to one year single entry for 1900Bt at the Immigration office, I was wondering if anybody knows how many days I would be permitted to go out of the country for, I already know that I would be permitted to leave on one occasion But I don't know for how many days this we be.
Also If I was to get a multiple entry when this visa expires, how many times can you exit the country and for a maximum of how many days.
regards.

Hi,
Just read this post, would just like to add "any longer" doesn't make sense to me, as in I don't see him any longer.
You could use it as" How much longer do I have to wait"

Hello,
I am currently in Ubon Ratchathani, with my wife and kids, I am on a Non O visa at the moment. I would like to find a job here, I am open minded and learn very quickly, I am prepared to learn any job for a good salary.
I run my own company in England in the Telecommunications Industry, I am very experienced in Cat5e, Cat6 and Fiber Optics, I am good with computers and managing accounts.
I could teach English, as I taught my son to speak, read and write english, I have some good experience and techniques in this field.

Are you saying if the OP is knowingly breaking the law that insurance will pay out ?Your medical insurance should cover your kids.
Driving a 2 door with the basic insurance cover with passengers and no seat belts is not breaking the law, it means you are not covered for the passengers upon death, this insurance is the most popular amoung thais and farangs, also it dosent cover repairs to the car, if you have a accident and its your fault then you will have to pay for the repairs to your car and the other car involved.
Correction. It is breaking the law although the risk that the Bib should fine you is around nil unless you have an accident with injuries. You are not allowed to carry passengers on the back bench in a Space Cab. That is also why it is like a wooden bench, not a seat. It is an indoor loading area.
What if you get belts fitted?

Two door pickups are road taxed as commercial vehicles, you are not meant to carry passengers in the back on those little bench seats - though all the locals do!
If you need to carry passengers get a 4 door pickup with proper rear seats and seat belts and pay the extra road tax.
I think I would prefer to get the rear seat belts fitted.

Worth remembering that the ride may not have seat belts for the kids. Insurance may be limited to driver and one passenger for a two door. Perhaps some one here can clarify. Thanks for the replies and website,
I will be looking for a 2 door DMac with 2 seats in the front and seats in the back for the kids, which I think is the single Cab, I have a budget of 300k max 350k, hopefully if I walk into the dealer with the cash they might drop the price 20 or 30,000.
regards Lee
Correction on this, after looking at the website, its the Space cab SX 2.5 that I will be looking for, seem to generally be around 350,000 price, but may be difficult to find one with 100k kilometres on the clock
Insurance is limited to 3 persons. And unless aftermarket installed, no seat belts in the back.
Ohh, so if you were to have a accident with 2 passengers in the back seats, with no seat belts your insurance company wouldnt cover you for the repairs to the third party if the accident was my fault.
I am a careful driver and havent had any incidents for years, but as you all know this dosent stop somebody driving into you. Sounds like it may be worth having the belts fitted.

Thanks for the input.
I think it would better to be cautious and transfer the money, hopefully I can do this on a day that the £ is strong, also it would probably look better on my visa extension showing that the money has come from abroad rather than a cash deposit which I think may actually be a requirement.

2002 - 2005 Dmax's will range from about 250K Baht for an early base model 2.5L single cab, up to 600K for a later model 3.0L double cab 4WD, but it'll take a lot of searching to find an example of these vintages with such low KM's...
Not many upcountry dealers advertise online yet, but this should be able to give you an idea: http://one2car.com/s....002&Year2=2005
Thanks IMHO,
how many KM on average would a Dmax single cab 2.5L be good for, difficult question to answer I know, bearing in mind to whether the motor has been looked after, but here in the UK buying a used car I would normally only buy a car with no more than 80,000 miles on the clock, so I could hope for a further 50,000 out of it, which could last me up to around 5 years.

If you open an account with Bangkok bank , transfer it through the London branch in the UK you will get the TT rate on Bangkok Bank website, today its 48.74 as an example, you will get the rate on the day it arrives in Bangkok. That will cost you about 20 gbp to transfer, Make sure you transfer in POUNDS and exchange in Thailand, NOT send in Baht from London.
Taking more than 10k in cash will cause you a big problem, if caught you could lose the lot, until investigations are completed and they are satisfied, could take 6 months or more if they are so inclined.
Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the reply, dont suppose you would have a link to where I can open a account with Bangkok Bank.

Thanks everyone for the input,
What if I took £8000 and my wife takes £8000 which would be under the 10,000 euro, and we take the bank receipts and print off the online statements to back it up, would they still be able to seize monies from us.

Thanks everyone,
I love this site, answers all the questions.
We have now infact changed our minds once again regarding going to Angkor Wat, our youngest is only 4 and having looked up the tour guides website it maybe a bit to much walking for her or to much shoulder carrying for me.
So now due to the input received on this post, I am going to go for the Single Entry 90 day visa, if I can get the bank account sorted out in time, I will go for the years extension before expiry(with 400k being in the bank for 2 months), if I am short of the 2 months of the 400k being in the account for any unseen problems that may arise, I will extend my visa for a further 60 days by which time I shouldve sorted the 400k(hopefully), and then go for the years extension.
Kind Regards, Lee

Multiple entry visa 5000 baht. Single entry 2000 baht plus re-entry permit costing 1000 baht is a bit cheaper. If you needed more time to do your 1 year extension you could get a 60 day extension at immigration to visit your wife for 1900 baht.
Hi Ubonjoe,
Do you mean I can extend a single entry 90 day visa.
