  1. Hi all, my 60 day extension expires tomorrow, I had a non O family visa from Savannakhet, extended for 60 days.

I have a work permit and temporary teaching permit from Krusapa, but I don't have the funds to extend a non O internally and my salary is not high enough to extend on working. Im aware that I can extend based on teaching, but to do this I have been told by local immigration I need to exit the country get a temporary stamp and do my non b here or go to Savannakhet and get a non b.

I know the amnesty is until the end of the month, but even then Im not gonna have the money to quarantine and my school won't be very happy with it. Kinda ridiculous having to quarantine baring in mind I only need to go out and come straight back in. Any ideas

That is where I do my one year extensions (on the 12th one now). I have been getting a new one every year since they first asked for one in 2012. Maybe not needed but better than being asked for one and having to rush to get one. Was not given one when we registered our marriage.

What's the process for updating the Kor Ror. I assume it's at local ampher. We actually registered our marriage in Bangkok in 2006

Your wife will need to be with you when you apply.

You will need your marriage certificate and a copy of it. Copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card. Some offices also want a copy of your Kor Ror 2 marriage registry that has been recently updated at a Amphoe.

Thanks again Joe, I've actually never been asked to update the Kor Ror. Original is 2006. Immigration in Ubon have known us for a long time not sure if that's why.

With your current non-O visa (together with a copy of the marriage certificate) you can apply for a teaching waiver. Once you have the waiver you can apply for the work permit and when the time comes to extend you current permisison to stay you do that based on teaching instead of marriage, with waiver and work permit.

Do not let your current permission to stay expire or you would need to start all over again. You can speed the proces of the waiver up by applying in person at kurusapa.

Thanks. My visa expires on the 26 May. I believe I can extend this for 60 days.

Non-O based on what? If based on marriage and the entry is still valid (or on an extension based on marriage) you can apply for the waiver with copy of marriage certificate. If not, you must apply for a non-B visa outside the country, once you have that apply for the waiver and once you have the waiver apply for the work permit.

Sorry I have confused things. What I now believe. Is as follows.

I have a non O. I need to get my school to speak to krusapa and get a temporary teaching permit. We then need to get a work permit with job title teacher. Then get a non O based on working.

    Does that work?

  6. Is that obtaining a non B externally or can I do the non B internally. Last year was told by immigration in Ubon to get the work permit then go back to get the non b. We got the work permit with the job title English Advisor then went to immigration and they declined the non b visa. Saying job title needs to be teacher. But I didn't have my B.A. then. So went to Savannakhet and got a non O. I now have my B.A. and was expecting to get the work permit with job title teacher then the non b internally. Then the temporary teaching permit. Would this be possible.

There are other documents you will need from the school. They should know what is required or they should contact immigration in Ubon to confirm what is needed.

Sounds perfect, and makes sense, because I told immigration that I would be working at a school, and was asking them about the minimum monthly salary (ngen duang dtong bpen tow rai), they said no minimun (mai dai gam not), so fingers crossed thus will work out. thanks Joe. Feel very relieved right now.

You may need to apply for a 60 day extension to delay apply for your one year extension so that you show tax payments for a couple of months of at least 40k baht income.

If not you could apply for an extension based upon working at a school. There is no minimum income to apply for that extension.

The extension based on working at a school sounds like what I need to do, are there any other requirements to qualify for this extension?

You will get a work permit from the Department of Employment office.

You will keep your extension of stay based upon marriage until it expires and then you will have to apply for a new one. At that time you will need to have 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht monthly income.

You will not need to go back to immigration until you apply for the new extension or to do your 90 day reports.

Thanks Joe, my extension expires 28th of May. I dont have 400k in the bank. this will be my first time working so dont have tax receipts, but could ask the school to put 40, 000 on the contract, would that work.

  10. Hi again. just for clarification, I am on an extension to stay based on marriage. I went to immigration in Ubon with a lady from the school, and told them, which will sound confusing as not the correct terminology, but that I want to keep my non O visa but start work, so hopefully understood as extension based on working. they told us to to go to the place for the wp and get permission that it's ok, went there they have said no problem, so the school is now preparing the documentation for the permission or the actual wp, no too sure. There has been no mention of salary requirements and am concerned because. the school are going to pay me 30k for 12 months and job title being educational personnel as I dont get my degree until Jan 2020. what should I do?

I assume you mean having a non-o visa or a one year extension of stay based upon marriage or being the parent of a Thai.

There is no minimum salary requirement for getting a work permit.

To apply for a extension of stay at immigration need to prove a income of at least 40k baht or 400k baht in a Thai bank.

You can use your income from working to meet the 40k baht minimum by showing proof of tax payments.

So could it be 40k a month for 10 or 9 months, or would it need to be 12 months
