His wife has grandchildren and the man has paid a dowry?

I understand that there is no obligation for a dowry when a woman has a previous relationship with children.

Yeah, that was my understanding too.

When I married my Issan gal she was 51 years young with 2 adult kids and both parents deceased. No dowry was asked for nor even hinted at.

We did put up a 'money tree' at the village ceremony, but that was just for show. I guess it was saying to her family, 'yes he can afford to take care of me'. (which I could)  All the money from the tree was returned to us.

    Hot day

    Why not?

    I love a cold shower

Me too. I love cold showers, even in the cooler periods. Right now I find the incoming water too warm so I resort to using the Thai dustbin and scoop method. For me it's much more satisfying and refreshing.

Interesting article, but I'm not sure where 'carnage' fits into it. Are the poles all dead then?

  5. In the toilets of Egyptian airports, once you'd done your business and washed your hands, you would then be presented with a large wad of toilet paper by the cleaner/attendant. This was supposedly for you to dry your hand on, but was actually a way of eliciting a tip out of you, despite the big sign on the wall saying 'No Tips!'.

Anyone who has tried to dry their hands on toilet paper will know the result! I would hand it straight back and shake my hands dry on the way out. I've been off toilet paper in toilets ever since.

Thank goodness for bum guns and bidets.

Why would he need to leave the international portion of the airport if changing planes here? They do not look for Thai stamps if not actually leaving the international section in the airport. And he will not be passing through Thailand immigration either.

He can only do that if his checked baggage can be transferred to his next flight without his intervention..

She was a para-military ranger aka mercenary paid by the Thai military Internal Security Operstions Command (ISOC) to hunt Malay Muslim freedom fighters in the South.

It's my impression that  ISOC uses these mercenaries to do field patrols to hunt and kill Malay Muslim rebels to minimize exposure of regular Thai military outside of their secure posts. ISOC for decades has maintained the military's State of Emergency in the Southern provinces that deprives resident Malay Muslims constitutional rights. Nowhere outside of the South is there a SOE.

Yes, her execution was unfortunate but not surprising.

Mercenary? Go do some homework before spouting nonsense

We're aware that the District Tax Offices are each hiring one Tax Attorney each to handle DTA related matters. Local tax offices are not great to work with but District and Regional Offices are much better equipped and usually very capable.

No surprise there. They're going to need these Tax Attorneys aren't they to deal with the incomes and assets of all the rich Thais that are the real targets of this exercise. I wonder if there are enough to go round.

I don't think that anyone will come knocking on your door.  It's possible that you will just be doing the routine paperwork for an extension and suddenly the IO will ask "Where are your Thai Tax Documents.....?  No Documents No Extension?"  Just a guess.  It could be official policy or an IO just jerking your chain.  The way things work around here you just never know.

I think that is highly unlikely. Should they decide to tax us foreigners and that is still not yet a given, we would not be required to file a tax return until early next year. (The Thai tax year being 1st Jan to 31st Dec) Therefor we cannot be denied an extension because we wouldn't have done anything wrong, at least not this year.

Imagine the panic if they suddenly said 'No tax docs' no extension!'.

More likely we would receive notification from Immigration (the obvious channel) that next year (2025) we would be required to prove that we are complying with the tax rules.

Once again the community is getting themselves all stressed out before we have any solid information. How's about we just cool it a bit.

    That's a hint @Mike Lister

because of the specific details it was specifically for Thailand, although I am a UK citizen my wise account is registered in Thailand, it looked very like a tax declaration including source of funds (pension - savings etc) and how much transfered per year with specific bands 0-250k 250k-450k etc, never had to do this before

A Wise account cannot be registered in Thailand. As a UK citizen your account, like mine will be registered in London. As no money actually moves from your account in London to your Thai account, (remember money does not cross borders with Wise) the only way that the Thai RD would know whether you have transferred money is if you tell them and I'm sure you're not going to rush to do so anymore than I am.

  11. I received an email from one of my 3 pension providers recently. I was invited to download an app, enter the unique code that they provided and follow the instructions,

Once I opened the app I answered a few basic questions regarding my contact details and then I was asked to provide a picture of a photo ID. (used my Thai D/L) I then had to take a short selfie video (presumably they wanted to see me blink) and they then compared the license photo with my selfie.

I passed so they now know that I'm still alive and the follow up email confirmed this and said I'm good to go for another year. It was all done in about 20-30 minutes.

Let's hope that other providers catch on and put an end to these bothersome life certificates. For the Luddites amongst us, they did provide the option to download a hard copy and do it old the fashioned way. As if!

The root of the problem is, Asia and the burning of debris aftrer harvest.

Thailand can not do anything if , Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

keep burnign their debris.  Posters who think this is only a Thailand problem

    are sadly just wrong.  IMO

Absolutely right. Airborne pollution knows no borders. Until there is an ASEAN wide holistic approach, nothing much will be achieved.

Although in our region of Thailand there has been quite a lot of progress as far as agriculture is concerned. I've lived in the rural north east for 8 years now and the amount of field burning has been greatly reduced thanks to mechanization. Consequently we enjoy a fairly good standard of air quality.

But we are just one small region and I sympathize with those who have to put up with this crappy air day after day.

I might also point out that castigating the Prime Minister isn't going to achieve very much either.

If dogs are so great and mans best friend why do they need training at all? is it because without training they are even more nasty, violent and badly behaved?

That is complete nonsense. As I've previously mentioned, I live in a village with 40 or more dogs roaming free. Not one of those dogs has ever been trained to 'behave correctly' within the community and yet there hasn't been a single incident where anyone has been harmed by a dog. And I've lived here now for 8 years, almost the lifespan of many dogs.

Dogs behave badly when they're treated badly and every incident that I have read about on this forum has involved dogs that been mistreated, usually by caging them or chaining them, thus preventing them from following their natural instinct to interact with humans.

It maybe Free Fertilizer but  Dog poop contains bacteria and parasites that can compromise the health of any individual. Bacteria such as E. Coli, Salmonella, and Campylobacteria can be found in a pile of dog waste.

So it's best left well alone isn't it. Left to their own devices and in a suitable environment, dogs will poop discreetly, therefor mankind has no need to worry about it. As I've already said we do not have a dog poop problem at all in our rural village. It's the modern environment that has screwed up the man/dog relationship.
