That could depend on how they received their Thai ID in the first place? I think a lot of the ongoing crackdown stems from Chinese illegally receiving a Thai ID.
Are there ways that Thai citizenship once acquired could be forfeited for criminal behaviour? Though presumably there should be due process in that case?

Thais were not allowed to have duel nationality last I heard or has that changed?

The sad truth is, most countries charge tourist more than locals.  If you travel in the USA, even if a citizen, cross a state line and visit a state park, you will pay higher entrance and usage fees than locals will.  Go to any public beach and locals will have parking stickers allowing them to park for far less.  Go to almost any museum or public attraction in the US or Europe, locals pay less than outsiders.  Even US National Parks charge Non-citizens higher fees.

Yes we know tourists are ripped off everywhere, but when you work and pay tax in a country for many years it becomes rather annoying. It is one of the downsides of living in Thailand. Just count the pros and cons to decide if you can put up with it or find somewhere else. As for the Thais they shoot themselves in the foot so often I lost count but people still come.

Brexit was an unmitigated disaster but as always, there will be some brexiteers who will still hide their heads in the sand and put their fingers in their ears and shout Nah! Nah! Nah! Nah!  Nobody likes to admit they were sold a pup and this was quite a big one!

Reports say (ha ha) that less than a third of brexiteers still believe that Brexit was a good thing.  Well if that is what the polls say, then I suspect the figure is far greater.

The <deleted> are the people who deny what is actually beginning to happen, it was delayed for a couple of years by something that got in the way. Maybe you never noticed the pandemic because you were standing on your head in a bucket of sand, or worse, reading The Guardian.

PS. I love how "brexiteers" is allowed but not the nickname for stay voters.

The right wing media are saying brexit was a good idea, how long will they take to start saying it was a huge mistake ?

They can keep on saying it and in the reasonably near future they will be proved right.

Being in denial is exclusive to the left.

Have a look at France if this link works:

The evidence is so thin it is really to be ignored. Anecdotal evidence I'm afraid is just a joke  - "I have a friend who...."

The truth is that the only way that cannabis can be verified is by proper scientific process - e.g. double blind peer reviewed papers and not just one either,

There has been some serious evidence that it might have effects on fits/tremors etc - but there simply isn' enough research done.

You may have noticed that almost every quack medicine has the same sort of claims - they always claim to relieve pain - the reason for this is that pain is almost completely subjective - it is impossible to measure in any factual way and is also subject to psychological issues and even placebo effects.

However the fact that in most of the world cannabis has been illegal for years means that there has in fact been very little research done and that that has is very shallow.

There is a massive problem with cannabis and medication and that is that so many people WANT it to be some kind of miracle cure that it is now subject to every quack, hypochondriac and con-man to jump in and claim its efficacy. so-called papers are released that when looked at tun out to be nothing more than wishful thinking r cherrypicking and anecdotal evidence - but the Thai healthcare system which allows both TCM and McDonalds into their premises is a soft target for this kind of poppy-cock.

I can say as an asthmatic who smoked it for years up to 1990 it never helped with that. I never experienced the hybrid "skunk weed" so I've no idea how that affects people.

It seems odd that some administrations allow it and some don't while there has been little interest in testing its effectiveness in pain relief for certain illnesses.

It looks to me that Thailand declassified it as a tourist draw in a bid to increase revenue and better compete with other local destinations.

I have no reason to doubt my friend's word though and although he might be an exception to the norm I suggest you refrain from dismissing his opinion as purely "anecdotal".

  6. Two key comments in the article:

"Thailand's marijuana policy was ill thought through which has resulted in these interim teething issues."

"Further clarity will come with the Cannabis Act due next year though that is unlikely to have many surprises.

Cannabis is set to stay legal and available in Thailand - though watch this space as to what you can and can't do with weed. And watch out for how the RTP interpret the law. "

Same old story, they announce something without much thought or deliberation and later have to put the mistakes right.

Enjoy it while you can (for those that do).

" Thailand nothing is ever thought through before it is announced" absolutely - it is asymption of recreational users that they think by trying to push it as a"medicine" they can then get to use it recreationally...... total red-herring as it is almost useless medically.

I agree, however some do say it helps alleviate the symptoms and pain of certain conditions, so I'm not against its use for "medical purposes" for that reason.

I have a friend with chronic arthritis who hates all the painkillers and says it works. He used to work in a nuclear power station control room so he is a pretty sensible and responsible person.

No, I am not alone. We (very many) have made very many complaints at the police and the City Hall. We and also the manager went several times to the City Hall. We made signature lists and presented them to the City Hall. We tried to talk to the bar owners. In the end they can do what they want to do. You have no chance against them.

Imagine you have a room neighbour and it switches on the music full power every night until two in the morning or even later and you can nothing do against it. Somehow unbelievable. But this is how our situation has been for very many years. And technically in respect of windows there is nothing more that I can do. And I spent a lot. I use earplugs in addition. The only option is to abandon the condo. I and many others gave up complaining in the meantime because it is useless and sometimes even made the noise worse... And I am afraid this coming week the government will decide to extend the opening times...

A case of "This Is Thailand". Sounds like you have done what you can. You have my sympathy.

Where are the bars and how long have they been there? How many Thais and Farangs have signed the petition by percentage of the number of residents affected in the area (not just your building)?

Sounds like the Council could be looking for an incentive if it's not in a zone.

  9. Same old story and I expected this to happen. In Thailand nothing is ever thought through before it is announced. This was made legal very quickly and people have disregarded what the intention of legislation was. They said all along "it wasn't intended for marijuana to be used recreationally", but that is what has happened. I gave the stuff up in 1991 so it doesn't bother me. I hope those who are sick can still benefit from its use though.

I question if this is BS or not you walk around nana on suk and they start drinking at 10 in the morning straight through to closing

The bar's license seems to cover sales between 2-5pm or is there a "police licence" you need to pay for weekly or monthly?

Buying from any shop with an electronic till is basically impossible, in Bangkok anyway.
