  1. So what are the Russian interests in Thailand they could hit? A russian restaurant? A russian go go bar? etc etc etc. Why should others worry no one but russians go to their hangouts no one else goes to russian places but russians. So the general public has nothing to worry about right.Just get on with their lifes let the russians worry about it.

Are you familiar with the Bali bombing???

Yes I agree with you. In Bali, they thought the Bar would be full of Americans( who they were targeting). Tell that to the Aussie relatives.

Also the the staff who were working in the bar were all Indo natives ( muslims).

I thought Muslims were not allowed to work with Alcohol.

Bali is a Hindu country .. The only one in the region ..
  2. So you basically only care about the life of the people from your country? Remind me that please one day if you need help , i will check your passport first.

Well beyond that trivial answer , think about maybe ... Russian owned condos .I suppose they did invest in some of Pattaya developments. Maybe Central Festival who knows? Do you happen to wander there sometimes?

    who's that aimed at ?

not sure that's completely correct as Bali is or was certainly then a Hindu country, albeit with many Muslims there also the targets was ' westerners ' as opposed to Americans ..
  4. Ok , so I have an O-A multi visa ( long stay ) which I obtained in February 2014 .. And it has a use by 4th February 2016 .

I trust that is a typo and was obtained in February 2015.

Not sure how successful you will be using IPad as site is specific to Windows IE - but some clones seem to work. In person will depend a bit on where but basically TM,47 filled out and how of passport and some proof of residence seems to be standard - some places also require photo copies and such.

You must enter before one year from original issue date of visa by Consulate to obtain a new one year stay - and any travel after that will require re-entry permits to keep that stay alive.

I might add that you have not done a 90 day report as of yet. I believe you must do the first one in person to get your records input into the Immigration database to be able to do your reports online in the future.
    ops yes typo sorry ..

I guess I can get the form TM47 and photo copies done etc.. At the immigration office ( pattaya , jontiem ) , and can I do this before the exact date , be a little late .. Or must be on that 90th day ?

    Cheers

  5. Ok , so I have an O-A multi visa ( long stay ) which I obtained in February 2014 .. And it has a use by 4th February 2016 .

I came to Thailand in March , but only stayed 70 days , then went back to the UK .. I arrived back on October 15th , and was pleased to see that the immigration guy at swampy stamped it for October 14th 2016 ...

So this time I will be staying here up to and including my 90 days , which based on what I've just explained would be due on the

    14th Jan 2016 ??

Question , using my iPad , can this be done online ? ... I have no problem personally going to immigration, and if I do go in person , what do I need to take with me ?

Passport , proof of my address ( I'm renting an apartment) . Is that it ?? ( I'm on my first visa so don't need bank account etc )

And can I go earlier , or later ?

( btw to get another length of time on my visa I'm going to Fly to Cambodia for a week prior to February original date which would then become February 2017 ? or would I not need to do this until October 2016 now ?

    Thanks in advance ..

  6. Changing the subject , very slightly..

    But hopefully somebody can answer

I have a Bangkok bank account , and transfer money many times using swift . My UK bank charge me £20 for every transfer regardless of amount .. Fair enough , but after a period of time , normally about 4-6 weeks , I then get charged again by my UK bank , when I called them to ask why they say it's the Bangkok bank commission charge and they are just moving it on .. Is there a Thai bank that doesn't do this ? .. My wife (Thai ) also sends money using kasikorn I think , and doesn't seem to get charged ' twice ' is it only Bangkok bank that do this maybe , btw it's never the same amount but always between £15 -25 , I guess maybe due to transfer rates ?

    And suggestions/ ideas ?

Why don't you transfer GBP from your UK bank account into the Bangkok Bank London branch? That should be a free transfer for you. After that Bangkok Bank do the rest and it ends up in your Bangkok Bank Thailand account.

    .

That is what I often do. Here is a link to the information. http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/PersonalBanking/DailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUK/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUK.aspx

. Ok , I've just been on my nationwide account to try this , using the download given from bkkbank UK

But my nationwide only offers CHAPS or swift . And it doesn't follow the same pattern .. I'm confused as to how to complete it .. Anybody use nationwide for this function ?

  7. Well I'm assuming the stuff of course has already arrived at Bangkok , and they I assume customs officer has tried to contact me though my condo reception , and I'm to call him back on Monday to discuss ' imported items ' ...

I'm in a good mind yes just have them sent back ... Is that easy ? .. Where do I get an agent here for that ? ...

    I could / will swallow 20k baht .. That's only because I want my golf clubs ..

    I just hope I'm lucky and he's in a good mood ...

Also I'm assuming that they have already opened the boxes and would clearly see that everything but the iPad is used ( the iPad is too but I put it back to default ) .

    Stressed !

  8. what has been posted over the past 5-6yrs.i am afraid you will be hit BIG TIME,and also one cost that can esculate is storage, they will say it has to be stored as we are so busy,60kilo's of falsely declared goods, you might need some sleeping tablets and some bp.tabs.

    good luck.

    . Oh dear ...

What do you call BIG TIME ? ... 20,000 plus ? , 50,000 plus ? ... What if I say , in that case throw away or keep it , as I say my golf clubs besides , its all used goods , the iPad is 4 years old .

I mean what happens if I'm not prepared to pay .. What are the options then ?

  9. You will be notified soon enough, with the news(bad?) and how to proceed.

Its a waiting game now to see how hard you get hit.

sounds bad , does that mean a possible fine , do you know of any previous examples that may give me an indication of what the possibilities are ?

I assume these boxes are being sent by courier ?

If you do not have a shipping agent in Thailand the courier will be in contact with you soon with the requested amount to have the goods released. Its a no win situation dealing with these people and they will also charge a per day fee for storage.

For most people who have no local shipping agent who can normally work a deal they end up informing the customs to keep the items due to the figure quoted to release the goods.

Receiving goods sent by courier to Thailand is a learning experience you will not forget.

thanks , yeah I'm not really sure .

All the goods are used of course ( not that that will make any difference it seems ) my daughter used a courier yes , I'm also hoping I do NOT have to go to Bangkok to collect , what are the ways of paying ? In cash only and being there to collect , or can this be arranged over the phone and still delivered to my address ... Am I looking at £100's ? Is that a real possibility ?

I am not sure regarding the items being all used as this should reduce the costs as opposed to new. These people have strange ways how they obtain the figures so you will need to wait till they contact you.

You will not have to go to Bangkok everything can be done by e-mail and telephone. Payment can be made to the account number they will give you.

You should have a tracking number when the goods were dispatched from the UK for that particular courier.

    1. Enter the number on the courier website.

    2. Give the courier in Bangkok a call and quote the tracking number

    thanks ,

I called my daughter who sent the goods , and she told me " don't worry I'll sort it " from her end ( UK ) .

She has the tracking details etc ... I told her I think it's out of your hands now , but ( I think out of embarrassment for not labelling correctly) she thinks she can resolve it , saying that the all the import duty etc has been paid .... I'll leave it a few days then ask her for the tracking number , and call the guy who left me a message to call him on Monday ... As long as I don't have to go to BKK , and the cost is below 5-6000bht . I can swallow that ..... Fingers crossed

60 kg's could be well over a couple of 100's in pounds
    damm !

  13. Hi

My daughter has recently despatched 3 boxes weighing approx 20kg each and a set of golf clubs , to be sent to my addresss out here in pattaya .

I don't think there's any problem with how they are packaged etc , it's what's in them gives me concern.

Again nothing serious , but I think I'll have a customs issue because , she has clearly marked / listed that in the boxes are just clothes / plastic toys / shoes/ trainers ...

But also inside is an iPad , and some other minor' metal ' objects such a a bhudda , which weighs about 5-6 kg , 6" high . So I'm sure an X-ray will pick it up .. My question is because customs I assume will notice ' not as described ' .. They will open , hold , keep , delay , .. I'll never get to see etc ....

My daughter was told by the shipping agent , it will normally take 3-5 days , and possibly an extra 2-3 days in customs under normal circumstances.. ( he of course is unaware that my daughter forgot to mention those things ) it's inky been 3 days so far ... But after a phone call with her , I thought ....shit ?

Has anybody had any issues in receiving goods ?

    Thanks in advance .

    that's great guys cheers ...

Now this is going to sound very daft .. As I'm currently in Thailand and use my UK accounts online , ' I don't actually have to be in the UK to perform this function do I ? ' .. I mean there's no way of knowing , as long as I use the ' within the UK ' option .

    Correct ?

Just log in to your online UK account, decide which of the two types of transfer you want to make (charges vary), transfer some money to the UK branch of BKK Bank using your Thai BKK Bank account number as the reference number, BKK Bank will transfer the money to your Thai account as soon as they receive it (usually takes just 1 or 2 working days).

cheers , God I wish I'd done this a year ago , would have saved a good few quid

    Thanks very much

  17. Thanks guys

All sounds good , and that's just what I'll do end of Jan / start February , to extend it for a further year .. So between now and then ( feb 2017) , all I need to do is 90 day reporting if I stay any one time for that amount of time .

Now after that when I need to apply for a extension of stay based on retirement, is that when I'll need the 800k bht in Thai account , which I ready have incidentally, because I thought I needed that to begin with .

Thanks again , very helpful .

  18. I started my O-A multi visa in Feb this year ( 2015 )

But had to return to the UK in June and have been tied up ever since trying to sell some property ,

    A couple of questions ,

I assuming nothing has changed on the visa front to make mine any different than it was before .

ie.. It will be stamped on my return ( 12th October ) with a complete new year lasting until October 2016 ?

And the only thing I have to do during this time is 90 day reporting to show immigration where I reside ?

And if I should chose to leave again during October and February next year , if I arrive back before the original start date ( February 4th ) , it will then be stamped for February 3rd 2017 ... It's only then I will have to show that I have 800,000 bht in Thai account and my residence ?

If I do Not leave again during the above times , I will have to do the 800,000 bht etc on our before February 2016 ... ?

I am I correct on all the above , have things changed Or am I completely wrong anyway

    Please advise

    Cheers
