  1. Changing the subject , very slightly..

    But hopefully somebody can answer

I have a Bangkok bank account , and transfer money many times using swift . My UK bank charge me £20 for every transfer regardless of amount .. Fair enough , but after a period of time , normally about 4-6 weeks , I then get charged again by my UK bank , when I called them to ask why they say it's the Bangkok bank commission charge and they are just moving it on .. Is there a Thai bank that doesn't do this ? .. My wife (Thai ) also sends money using kasikorn I think , and doesn't seem to get charged ' twice ' is it only Bangkok bank that do this maybe , btw it's never the same amount but always between £15 -25 , I guess maybe due to transfer rates ?

    And suggestions/ ideas ?

Why don't you transfer GBP from your UK bank account into the Bangkok Bank London branch? That should be a free transfer for you. After that Bangkok Bank do the rest and it ends up in your Bangkok Bank Thailand account.

That is what I often do. Here is a link to the information. http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/PersonalBanking/DailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUK/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUK.aspx

    that's great guys cheers ...

Now this is going to sound very daft .. As I'm currently in Thailand and use my UK accounts online , ' I don't actually have to be in the UK to perform this function do I ? ' .. I mean there's no way of knowing , as long as I use the ' within the UK ' option .

    Correct ?

Just log in to your online UK account, decide which of the two types of transfer you want to make (charges vary), transfer some money to the UK branch of BKK Bank using your Thai BKK Bank account number as the reference number, BKK Bank will transfer the money to your Thai account as soon as they receive it (usually takes just 1 or 2 working days).

cheers , God I wish I'd done this a year ago , would have saved a good few quid

    Thanks very much

  4. Thanks guys

All sounds good , and that's just what I'll do end of Jan / start February , to extend it for a further year .. So between now and then ( feb 2017) , all I need to do is 90 day reporting if I stay any one time for that amount of time .

Now after that when I need to apply for a extension of stay based on retirement, is that when I'll need the 800k bht in Thai account , which I ready have incidentally, because I thought I needed that to begin with .

Thanks again , very helpful .

  5. I started my O-A multi visa in Feb this year ( 2015 )

But had to return to the UK in June and have been tied up ever since trying to sell some property ,

    A couple of questions ,

I assuming nothing has changed on the visa front to make mine any different than it was before .

ie.. It will be stamped on my return ( 12th October ) with a complete new year lasting until October 2016 ?

And the only thing I have to do during this time is 90 day reporting to show immigration where I reside ?

And if I should chose to leave again during October and February next year , if I arrive back before the original start date ( February 4th ) , it will then be stamped for February 3rd 2017 ... It's only then I will have to show that I have 800,000 bht in Thai account and my residence ?

If I do Not leave again during the above times , I will have to do the 800,000 bht etc on our before February 2016 ... ?

I am I correct on all the above , have things changed Or am I completely wrong anyway

    Please advise

    Cheers

  6. I spend a lot of time on pattaya beach ". It's really not that bad , they also take pictures themselves before the tourist get on .. Sure they have issues with the Indians , but they don't help themselves by overstaying in their rides , as I said previously, with the Thais frantically waving them back in for what seems ages , so by the then they have the hump with them .. Normally say they have to pay more because of this reason and then an argument starts ..

    No big deal , don't like ? , don't use simple .

  7. One thing I have noticed quite a bit though , and seems to wind the Thai operators up no end , is that esp and nearly always the Indians that do rent them out , stay out well over their allotted time with the Thais waving frantically for what seems an age to get them back in , weather they ( the tourists) have no concept of time I don't know but they certainly get their monies worth .. When they do finally ' come back in ' .. Maybe those operators are thinking pay back time ..

  8. That's what forums are for .. I'm also on a football one , and all that happens there is moaning too .. It's somewhere to vent your spleen..

Nobody else will listen , esp her indoors ..

Everybody loves to moan , we wouldn't want it any other way ... Do people really want to hear about the nice dinner I had last night ? Or the beautiful scenery I was looking at on Tuesday , my mothers coming over next month ? .... No we want to hear about your misfortunes , or something that's wrong ( so we can avoid or prepare for it ) ..

  9. Won't effect the Europeans or the British expats as currencies there are still weak. Those using USD will only benefit.

I didn't realise the £ was weak. Maybe not the strength it was but it's getting stronger and stronger against the baht.

In 2013 it dropped down to almost 42 to the £, during the protests and then coup it went to 55, checking right now it's at 54.8. Baht has consistently been getting weaker against the £ for the past few months after being stable around 50.

    I cried at 42.
I still remember back when it was around the 90 mark ( after the tiger economy crash ? ) , lived like a king !!
  10. Has anybody informed the government , that as everybody is supposed to carry ID . Just ensure that every establishment selling alcohol. Checks ID first .. In England now that works very well , ( you just get hundreds of drunkun 20 something's rolling round the street centres on a Friday night ) different story .. But <deleted> .. Just enforce the law .. , 7-11, " how old are you ? , ". " 21 " ... You have id , ? " yes " .... Ok ...... No , the fanta red is over there ..

.. "jah" says the youth, leaves, then comes back 20 minutes later with a pickup full of 15 mates who throw ping pong bombs all round the shop..
. What youth would be driving the pick up ? .. And the shop would call the police . They are the ones who are going to inforce the law are they not .. And if not , then it don't matter .

  13. "However .. I must fly back to the UK on May27th possibly for 2-3 months .."

OP - when you return from this trip, it it important that you check whether the IO at BKK stamps you back in for another full year. I say this because when I returned to BKK from a trip back to the UK in 2009 the day before my O-A visa expired, the IO only stamped me back in for another 90 days initially, because he was under the impression that it was only an "O" visa thanks to the stamp which the London Embassy had plonked right on top of the visa obliterating the "-A" part! Thankfully, I spotted this error just in the nick of time and he corrected it without any fuss.

that's a great shout my friend , as just checking my passport the -M part is also covered by the stamp .. I'll make sure I take your advice and will even say him to him/ her on arrival .. " I'll get one year correct sir "
  14. Re Entry Permit.

    1,000 Baht for a single.

    3,800 Baht for a Multiple.

Apply at Immigration or you can get one at the airport when leaving if you are pushed for time.

Personally I would not leave it until the last minute but maybe I worry too much.

o so you apply for this before you leave Thailand , but then you must know all your dates , return dates too , flights numbers booked etc ? .

Personally being a major pessimist , I would never leave anything until the last minute .

You do not need to know dates, flights, etc. It is just a permit valid for the duration of your current permission to stay that allows you to leave and return whenever you like.

so besides to cost , it's just a formality then , I just need my passport ( and money ) .

  16. 1. You do not need to do a report of staying in the country longer than 90 days if you are not here that long.

2.You can stay out of the country for a long as you want. Just be sure your return before the enter before date on your visa.

    3. When enter in September you will get another one year permit to stay (not a visa) which will be September of 2016.

If you do an entry on or before the enter before date on your visa you will get another one year permit to stay. After the enter before date you will need a re-entry permit to keep that permit to stay valid if you want to leave the country.

. So the example being I leave Thailand again mid Jan 2016 , but return before Feb4th . Then I get another year until 2017 , BUT , if I wish to leave again during that year I will need a re entry permit ? Where do I get that from and how easy is that to obtain ?

Thanks guys this is really helpful .

  17. Sorry I'm sure this maybe covered elsewhere , but I cannot locate .

    I'm on a 0-A multi visa ' long stay ' until 4th Feb 2016 .

    I arrived on March 7th 2015 .

My 90 day immigration is due I guess on or around 7th June ?

However .. I must fly back to the UK on May27th possibly for 2-3 months ..

    3...questions here ,

1, I assume I will not need to bother with the 90day immigration visit .

2, is it ok to stay that long out of the country , it will have no effect on my visa status ?

3, if that's fine and I return around start of September , is that where the visa now ends for 2016 ( sept ) ?

This is my first 0-A multi visa .

I'm also Informed , that if I leave the country again in say Jan 2016 and return before 4th February , I will get a whole new one year until Feb 2017 ? ... And still not having to show 800k etc in the bank yet . ( although this isn't a problem if I need it as I have a Thai bank account already )

Please advise if all above is correct , many thanks .
