Makes my blood boil. How many Thai's travel to the UK or Europe or the US, get into an argument and then set fire to their hotel room? Zero. Absolutely none. Yet Brits and others come here and cause so many problems, every day. Find him and lock him up for a very long time.

Possibly because Thais who can afford to travel to the UK or Europe are wealthy and unlikely to engage in activities unbecoming of people of that class. Whereas all sorts of foreign scum can afford to visit Thailand, Cambodia etc, including folk like this guy whose first reaction to a spot of friction is to do the unthinkable, including harming persons or objects.

I'm thinking about getting the dynavap or XMAX v3. Leaning toward xmax v3 for ease of use. I have a pax 2 and arizer solo back home, I hope the xmax doesn't disappoint. If any one knows a good plug for larger quantities  (oz or more) let me know. ????

I took a brand new Dynavap to Cambodia and could not have been more disappointed in it if I wanted to be. The other problem was that the butane triple flame that you couldn't carry on planes had to be substituted for a candle. The vap went through its cycle of clicking noises, but the draw was acceptable, and the vape underwhelming - no 'smoke' or just the thinnest of wisps. I decided maybe I bought a dud, but couldn't see anything obviously dud about it. Then I lost it.

AFAIK there is no bank anymore with free withdrawals. The fee is 220 at most banks. AEON charges 150 but limits withdrawal to 20k.

    Do the math.

The usual hint: try to withdraw as much as possible with a single take.

Many modern ATMs allow 30k some also 50k.

(seen for SCB, Krungsri and Kasikorn)

But as I don't use cards since ages I can't tell whether it works practically.

Best ATM machines are at fancy places like Central Festival.

I always bring cash to avoid these costs.

This is the same as those inane responses complaining abut the price of a car here - do guys alway need to be reminded that at they are ’not in Kansas anymore’ ??????? ( a common used response to those who completely miss the point of a thread )....

In my home town I pay £250 for a taxi back home...  In Bangkok a the taxi’s are charging 500B

Thats 20x less...  the difference is the distances are longer, the vehicles are better, the driver is safer.... and its a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Country !!!.....      ITs all irrelevant what happens elsewhere.

A Taxi from DM into town probably included 80 bat in tolls... and about 280 to 320 baht on the meter.

Anything else is the driver trying to pocket extra - which is fair enough IF the driver is running a private taxi and that is his quoted fair upon booking.

BUT, a tourist arriving at the airport is expecting to pay the legal metered fee, the face a rip-off at the very first step upon entering Thailand potentially setting the tone for the rest of their vacation.

    ------

Then, with the official Taxi’s....  some, the rear seatbelt doesn't work...  other’s want to take the 50b receipt (so you have no recurse for complaint if they’ve take that slip)...  entitles and Thainess slip through the gaps very quickly and it sends to a substandard service.

I’ve had friends who have drivers fall as sleep and found the cars drifting lanes, pr drivers who want to stop off at the rest room (bathroom break), or need fuel etc....

I dont want to watching every exit just incase the driver pulls off at the last second without warning thus embedding us into a 30-60m packet of gridlock traffic when we could have circumnavigated it on the toll way.

    -

No - it costs more - But is AOT limo all the way from me (its 1200 baht) but 99 % of potential issues are avoided...  you get the quickest route and just swtich off...

If you have unlimited money, 1200 baht may seem reasonable. For the rest of us plebs, a metered taxi does just fine.

Chinese organized criminals are a horrible scourge tainting an otherwise wonderful place.

China? You mean apart from the dictatorial rule, persecution of minorities, 1984 style censorship of history and internet and face recognition spy cameras, slaughter, often torturous,  of 20,000,000 dogs a year and the illegal wild life trade reaping organs and body parts for medicines and flesh for exotic foods. Otherwise a wonderful place!

Hmmm….. why do we need to read this horrible sort of news? How does it edify our daily experience of life i wonder?

Yes, better that the only news made available for public consumption concerns niceness and goodness, with a ban applied to the publication of anything depressing, dark, cruel or violent. What a wonderful world it would then seem to be.

Snitch tried to rort 200,000 from them after falling 3 meteres into water.

Which resulted in zero damage to him.

    Blackban him.

Everyone expects to be compensated for every little thing these days.

    Harden up.

Wasnt even that high. I would jump off that platform without a girly rope.

A bungee rope breaking is not a 'little thing'. And if the company had compensated more than just medical expenses and a refund of the fee, they would have avoided the exposure. You might jump off the platform without a 'girly rope', but I and many others sure as hell wouldn't.

There's a few people trying hard to be funny, but being attacked by monkeys can be absolutely terrifying.

Many years ago I was enjoying the sunset from a rocky lookout at Mahabalipuram in South India. A Danish couple were doing the same, and feeding the quite large monkeys with peanuts.

The lady couldn't get the peanuts out of her pockets fast enough! Two monkeys attacked her, viciously clawing and tearing at her shorts. She was screaming hysterically. The Rains ran down the steps chased by the greedy savage monkeys. They managed to get away, but both of them were badly scratched and traumatised.

Stayed in Mahabalipuram twice in the 80s. Has to be one of the most magic places I have visited. However the 2nd time I visited, areas had been fenced and the place looked like a tourist park. I don't remember any monkeys.

they seem to get more and more aggressive, watch the reels on Facebook or YouTube, basically the big monkeys scare the girls and take their bags and search inside

The vast majority of Facebook monkey reels feature baby monkeys abused and exploited by Asian owners where the animals have obviously been illegally acquired and are destined to a nasty and hasty death once they become adults. Now there are also numerous videos of dogs being set alight or tortured and killed for the Chinese dog meat market. Don't see many videos where the monkeys are in the open and have an equal chance against their human tormenters. I have made over 30 reports to no avail against these abusive and cruel videos but Facebook couldn't care less, unless you get upset at a dog being burned to death and say you would like to see the person responsible suffer the same fate, in which case you are liable to cop a warning from the FB team. Needless to say I no longer view FB Reels.

Violence doesn't resolve problems but upbringing does. I worked in Thai education system for many a year. Wast majority of kids (any gender or age) have zero to non upbringing or have any work habbits instilled from the very parents that are complaining. Teacher who really wants something to be done, has no support from colleagues nor from the supirior ones. In public schools everything is done the way that student are happy (dumb) and teachers have free time and do some other profitable business.

Let me give you an example, where such education leads. Just the other day as I was descending the stairs from my favorite temple which serves me as daily exercise. I met a group of more than 10 young policemen ( all a bit chubby) climbing up and each of them had a broom. I was happy to see them as I was thinking that someone will finnaly sweep the slippery dry leaves. I asked them about theit intention and they confirmed my prediction. The next day I climbed the stairs again and I really wasn't surprised that nothing was done. Bad upbringing and education have its cost.  How many of you are not satisfied with police force? The problem begins very early in life and can not be mandet in lifetime.

As I don't support violence and I don't know the teacher in question and all the circumstance, I refrain from judgement but give you my inside and example of the problem which is not isolated to Thailand only.

If you 'refrain from judgement' then you are part of the problem an have no role in the solution.
