Exactly what I thought. I was hoping it was her that the monkey attacked.
Also, I am not fond of influencers.

It can severely alter the psyche of these young people. Modern strains are highly potent and basically zonk people out of their mind. I myself was a regular cannabis and quit a few years ago when I noticed things in my life i didn’t like. Irritability and even outbursts when I didn’t have it and I also felt its better to face the world with a clear mind. Occasional users won’t have these issues but when it becomes a habit it can be harmful.
I have a couple of vapes every night and have used cannabis for 52 years without any negative affects. Looking forward to returning soon to Thailand to enjoy the benefits of legalisation.

Years back a police colonel was at my condo door with his Thai wife. I opened he door they quickly came inside, with a teenage boy lackie who quickly closed the door. Never seen him before, he and his wife asked me to help him improve his English.
Later discovered he and his wife approached me because I was the only farang she regularly saw at the local supermarket.
In fact the policeman spoke excellent English. It soon became obvious that:
- His wife wore the pants.
- She came from a very wealthy family. She spoke English at Native speaker level.
- She sought out and married the cop because there was a history of high ranking military and police in her family.
- At her insistance the colonal cop had a personal uniformed chauffeur who was not a cop, and his car was the biggest/most expensive Benz*. An enterage followed in another smaller car with fresh Thai food and 2 teenage boys assigned to continuously keep the Benz clean and keep extra sets of shoes highly polished for the colonel cop.
- The wife openly told me the reason for all of this - she was ready to pay the big money to buy hubbie his general rank, but wanted to be able to say he brought something valuable to the table - perfect English.
- They were offering big money for English lessons (which I wouldn't attempt partly because I have no knowledge of how to structure any lessons at his current English level and because I'm not intersted in teaching English, I already had a very good position in a consulting firm.) Even in the first discussion in my condo the wife was already ordering me what to do.
- I had to politely insist NO thanks, she was angry that her 'orders' were being challenged. She approached me again the next day and the following day. Her attitude was polite but insistant that she should have what she desired.
* At that time Benz was the much preferred European luxury high quality car.
As someone who 25 years ago spent 7 days in Pattaya lock up and a day in jail before the oiling of squeaky wheels took affect, I have never had any respect for the Thai police. I have strong memories of the gold jewellery and expensive watches worn by lowly police officers. Not to mention the party they held at my expense.

Which country do most Russian refugees support in this war? How are the Russians dealing with visa requirements to stay in Thailand? What is likely to happen to you when you go back?

Today at lunch my partner and some other people were talking with wifes of policemen who had lunch too. The wifes claimed that policemen are ordered to take bribes to hand over to their superiors, and many will quit when they are 25 years in service. But nobody dares to stand up against their superiors.. It is all over Thailand according to the women... Just to say, and apparently the Government knows it, but don't care
If dining at an expensive restaurant this would suggest that the wives are quite happy to reap the benefits of the bribes taken by their husbands. Also if not working, they are obviously comfortable enough on the one source of income. Me thinks maybe they protest too much.

Typical overkill knee jerk reaction from Tha authorities in a xenophobic rant targeting tourists. Instead of actually seeking to minimise the problem by targeting the shops re-selling old uniforms.
19th century laws dealing with 21st century actions again.
So long as the group being targeted is these Chinese who live in a Peter Pan world of fashion, I am happy.

All the worry about the possibility of tarnishing a schools image by wearing a school uniform with a name on it but no worries about school staff tarnishing the school image by physically and sexually abusing school students. We are truly living in an upside down universe in Thailand.
Arrest both the teachers and the Chinese.

We brought a couple of overseas friends last sept to the market . Booked a motorized boat negotiated down to tb800 for 4 people. Business was quiet then too and more than half the stores were closed.
Tourist areas everywhere do not all have scammers. Some countries have almost none while some have more or many more than others. A measure of a country's moral fibre is the strength and power of its scam force, and Thailand has always had more than its fair share. With increased wealth and the growth of middle class aspirations, people would be expected to become more transparent and honest in their dealings with visitors to the country. These scammers exist because of the corrupt police turning a blind eye to them. Really this organised scamming of tourists is not unrelated to the other headline news regarding police extortion from tourists.
Sure tourists should be less naïve, but blaming them rather than the perpetrators of the scams and those who allow it to happen is simply deflecting the blame for dishonesty and corruption.

I've been in Thailand for 16 years and been stitched up by the traffic police three times. It was only 200 baht each time, but still a stitch up. Twice it was for "spending too much time in outside lane" whilst overtaking a line of cars and the other was when the BIB showed me a small wrinkled piece of paper with "120 KPH" written on it when I was actually well within the limit.
I payed up each time rather than surrender my license and drive to find some obscure police to pay the fine and obtain a receipt. Yes, I know, it just encourages them.
There is a difference between paying a bribe to ignore a misdemeanour or crime you haven't done as opposed to one they have pretended you have done. Both are illegal and regrettable actions by people paid to keep order, but the latter is a far more reprehensible action and should not be tolerated or encouraged.

If it wasn't overwhelming then, it certainly is now. Besides, it's always nice to be on the winning team rather than the one that jumped the gun and leapt to the defence of the indefensible RTP.

Police Station is nothing like a prison, that is another world with 40 crammed in cells meant for 20. knowing a lot of piggies makes no difference.
In fact guys who have been in prison and return to society via a police station cell claim that the latter is luxury compared to prison. Still crowded but able to get food from outside and have visitors who are not seated behind glass screens or yelling at you from maters away.

Thai regulations regarding hair in schools have always been barbaric. I recall teaching at Assumption College in Bangkok in the mid 90's, when one morning my Year 11 boys were 20 minutes late coming to class from assembly. The reason? They had to kneel on the asphalt in the sun because 3 boys had hair that was too long. In the public schools, if teachers considered that hair was too long, they would simply take a razer to it and force a haircut. This government decision is the type of gutless nonsense you'd expect from this pathetic government. Schools will just continue to do what they have always done.

Should be out of a job and prosecuted. What a petty little Hitler he is. The Thais never deal decisively with this type of person whether in schools or the police force.

Thaksin unfortunately lost any support I might have given when he declared the shoot on site policy to rid the country of drugs. Puts him on the same level as Dutertes in the Philippines. Prayut is just an autocratic military officer working a job that requires a much higher level of competence and a willingness to usher in some much needed change. Though I guess he did preside over the legalisation of marijuana, so he has done one thing right.

Seems to me you both see caning as acceptable and a rite of passage but would oppose it if it was your own young kids being punished. It's this kind of ambivalence that allows corporal punishment to continue despite being abolished.
