  1. The future is bleak.

Happiness to the tourist is increasingly either Chinese or lower heeled andlower geared tourists .

The wheels will fall off once words get out about slavery on boats and EU and United States bans later on their Fish markets.

The military will loose its ability to avoid hard questions , while friends and investors will walk out on its agenda.

Isolated to the likes of Communist China and media bans on reality and goings on ....Thailand won't attract the back packers as thieves and murderers increase their trade to cope with down turns and rising xenophobic traits.

Civil strife is likely to simmer into a boil as prior PM gets her sentence read out in court this year.

International sanctions will increasingly look likely as well as further displeasure.

And finally the word and coffered ploys in media to try and pretend a military running a nation unelected and by fear and threat is somehow to be trusted and respected by the international community will vanish .

The grim cold reality of hatred will replace it .

The economy in tatters and growing demotic disdain

Thailand will lurch by years end to a dangerous destination .

The new charter ensures the genie remains out the bottle.

  2. Western teachers accused could end up in a prison ...guilty, and case closed.

Live under this rule and be prepared to suffer the risks.

Xenophobic , Nationalistic , fever is the tool of use.

Dirty westerners soon to be banned from schools?

    Property seized ?

    What's next?

    This is the very beginning

    And forget fair and balanced

The innocent will get locked up and if lucky deported.

  3. And so the nights of the long knifes begin...the arrest and executions of opponents......witch hunts ...lists...fear.

Insidious elitist purging ....they say one hundred but ten thousand most likely will be arrested....

Then YS receive ten years jail or worse.

My advice is monitor here the situation and be open to an exit.

    This is the real deal.

    War could be looming

  4. And with that demand , so begins the death knell of Thailand's elites ....deluded with granduar all these centuries ....it comes down to one last desperate sentence that their whole existence (at the expense of the poor ) relies on.

Get the popcorn and stay tuned ......this is going to be so funny , historical , and sobering for them...

The international community are not children ...nor can you demand things that are not yours to demand from them.

It's the beginning of the end

    Simple

  5. Only a Stockholm Syndrome sufferer or coward and/or idiot wish to be governed by an absolute ruler with extradition of personal rights to him alone.

They like feeble hostages comply to his whim and tell others he will take care of them , knows best.

Pathetically their garb of politics is stripped bare to reveal naked power and nil regard to democracy and international standards. This by no other name has manifested into what is forbidden to be called.

    Extremely so.

People now are at mercy of a power drunk general who time after time has broken promises and suffers delusions of grandeur at craves to be loved in international circles.

What will happen when reject is thrust bitterly in his face , hostility by Thai nationals abroad shown on social media ?

What will he do when sanctions come ..?.....and of course they will.

And then we have ticking time bombs in the north the Chiang Mai army barracks and internal politics of other generals.

    The reds .

YS and her trial in a kangaroo court.....

This man is facing a woman with courage , and loved.

Will he jail her , ? Shoot her?

The real possibilities of Civil War loom big....it's not fantasy . It's not some little normal ride or another coup.

    This is the real deal.

So when these mousy men get it clear it is morally indefensible to condone it and stop spamming their freedoms ( ironically) over threads pandering to this man .....maybe just maybe sensible people with some semblance of IQ and common sense can talk about how this might pan out.

One thing for sure is there will be a huge run on investments and banks .

Thailand is financially about to crash

And the big worry is this guy might lock up everything .

I saw this coming and wrote weeks ago I sold up and have my money now safely in an overseas account.

Look you either believe like these guys things will be fine and run with it.

Or quickly ensure your assets are safe ....

I would not keep farang money in a Thai bank now he has the right as Absolute ruler to freeze your account.

  6. World War is next. Might be five years. Party on.

This comment could easily be glossed over and quickly dismissed as flippant .

However it carries more gravity when placed in an economic social political context.

    Religious too.

The shifting plates of external forces globally and the rise of China.

    Aggressive Russian power plays.

    Middle eastern nightmares.

    ISIS .

    Pakistan and its internal shifts.

    India and its assertions .

    Gaza and Iranian empathy

    The bomb.

Israel and the hair trigger finger on the button.

    American congress.

    Radicalisation of Islam globally.

Terror attacks that might trigger an escalator of events .

Global decimation of crops by nature.

    Viruses unleashed.

    Chemical warfare.

Yep, this guy might have nailed the truth in his throw away line.

But whether the party is in Thailand now remains to be seen.

The coast of Vietnam looks decidedly cleaner and more peaceful

  7. The topic is about a man who is seen to be obsessive about the imposition of personal and elitist Dogma.

And now shifted from a prior position of transitional governance to a threat to hold on to power indefinitely.

Daily considerations of his threats , this amongst many, are becoming taunting for media , observers , Thai citizens , human rights organisations, and international embassies based around Thailand.

The demographic is taking on new dimensions that only the most foolish will dismiss in their blind faith .

Thailand could possibly , even likely , be controlled by this man and his inner circle in far more radical terms in future based just on comments and announcements .

Media will be servers to position of state and possibly even be given what to print.

Certainly , it will not be free to tell the public or world the real position of events.

Polls we have seen weekly almost will be the norm.

Internal consequences for perceived threats to them ( the military ) could well be under the act rounded up and shot or held indefinitely .

This is not just speculative but common under these circumstances.

Protests would be dealt with harshly.

Sanctions may follow and Thailand economically fall away as an Asian investment market.

Recession , and instability , fear and isolation will more than likely see Thailand move towards Chinese power.

This is the beginning of a road many feared.

There is every reason to take the PM seriously.

And consider the metamorphosis of civil rights ahead including expats and their respective positions.

    Yeh!! right.

What a vivid imagination you have - eloquently put but sheer fiction out of a comic book.

That exact comment was said to me months ago ( by a blind faith follower of dear leader) when I predicted stricter times ahead and threats to media.

Time will tell whose common observations pale into superhero fiction .

Or unfold as tragic political and social carnage.

Certainly, there is nothing comical about adjustment camp and firing squad threats.

    Nor "" absolute power""

Most people of some IQ see cause to be concerned when this joker is running the show

  9. So the reader is clear .....here is what I actually did say ...the whole quote in question ( not part)

    Quote

Does that mean he can order very literally that you be taken and placed in a camp without charge and all assets seized.?

    Unquote

It was posed as a question.

The answer depends on just the "man" himself.

    That was my point.

Not congress who allowed places like Gitmo after 9/11 to be set up.

This will be one mans call.

    Not a government arm .

In fact this will no longer be a Government in terms of checks and ticks .

To pretend this situation isn't serious is irresponsible to the casual observer.

It's a very big deal , and while commentary is permitted either here or in Thai media , it needs to be said.

Thailand is in danger of serious isolation and heavy iron curtain media bans .

Execution has been threatened to media already and this situation should be monitored by expats carefully .

Visitors should heed their governments travel advice , once this power is granted

  10. I am sure some kind of self censorship is needed. Difficult part is to decide where the borders are. Western standards cannot be applied. Well even Western standards differ from country to country. Nudity OK or not? Brutality OK or not?

I would believe this is for the Thai society to decide.

This should not be purely based on Majority opinions. If it disturbs many locals, which I doubt by the way mini skirts do, it should not been shown.

Some older Thais may have a hard time understanding that moral standards have changed.

I think the PM should have other priorities right now.

How about truly equal rights for women, in constitution and law?

The real issue is does he even have the right to impose his will into this area?

And if so , on what bases?

Ok your side of the coin addresses sensibilities of older Thais ....but the show isn't for older Thais .

Nor is it mainstream TV it's a show late at night and fairly tame.

    By our standards .

    Tongue in cheek gags.

Really were this guy so interested in morality would not the 50 feet high billboards advertising everything from cars to brothels on freeways using images not be removed where woman being used in flimsy attire is concerned?

What about neon signs outside establishments ?

And the very core of this hypocrisy , what's inside them.

He could act on them .( he may well )

However , in reality this is just smoke and mirrors and designed for the older Thais to say "" isn't he righteous "

    In short it's more spin.

Sits well with his hand book on good Thais "think and say as I do."

And don't say otherwise or you might get shot

  11. One may be excused to wonder why a previous Prime Minister who was really into equal right for women and dignity for women, didn't notice this issue.

Probably to many other things to do rolleyes.gif

I try to avoid the submissive men posting pro military here usually , but really switching this Generals narrow minded early 20th century views back on YS is just too audacious to let go without clarification.

YS is not a woman who might approve of woman being perceived as sexualised , but she isn't a prude either.

But more important she recognised it was not her role to censor people or programming on TV where matters minor like this exist.

It's really amusing a military man object to attractive woman in skirts.

Ok ...what would you think if he started intervening and went further .

Say he said he wanted to rid the Kingdom of homosexual foreign expats and tried to justify it by linking it to pedophiles .?

We all know its not .

But this is a general who links rape with bikinis and has shown himself to hold views that are not in keeping with modern times.

What I am saying is your blind faith is crossing over to a point of ridiculous pandering some might question.?

It is your right ( which I respect ) to hold strong political views but ""absolute " rule and censorship and strict controls on gatherings , freedoms , and threat , do not hold dear to the average person...( including Thais) and no amount of make believe can alter that.

YS is not hiding and living her life as a coward and submissive to a government non elected and run by military.....and if the show is canned it's just indicative of one less freedom of expression that all people should be concerned about

  12. Some guys just don't get it.

Like hill billies who see mountains glow in the dead of night as a wild fire approaches .

"" I still believe Pa that that there glow means Jesus loves us"

Look read the basic script ....."" He doesn't want to go and is becoming increasingly threatening""

Freedoms are twiddling and Communist nations or ones run by similar style are replacing old friends.

    Countries like Australia Ban him.

And by the day he disregards protocol and elegance of being a Statesman for raw fear and talk of executing people.

    What next ?

You want the guy to turn ugly and start shooting ?

"" aw no pa he would never do that? "

Ok ...lets see what happens next

  13. YS should flee or go to the American Embassy .....it won't be long until Thailand is officially a basket case .

This kind of leadership and threats to citizens ( let alone opponents ) is akin to ISIS

You're right she could get protection, but would the good general and his army recognize the sovereignty of a foreign embassy?

    I'm afraid someone is unstable.

You might be well right ...it's insanity going in armed into a United States Embassy without permission on what is their soil technically - and stealing arresting / shooting an elected PM who they wish to prosecute .....that would be punishable by American force .....guys like Mc Cain would seek nothing less than bombing out all Thai military barracks in Bangkok just for starters .

    Embassies are a no no.

    Uncle Sam' s especially.

  14. This was obvious a long time ago -

And people are entitled to perverted justiciary outlook in approving a military rule and no democracy in Thailand .....even if the poor Thais Themselves may not.

Opinions clearly are going to become a thing of the past.

    And that's just gutless .

    Dangerous

And most importantly internationally unacceptable to key players ......

In the past expats have quietly reassured themselves Thailand always finds a peaceful solution and things will be ok....it always is?

This time you might do better taking a "cold shower and a long walk "then read comments about shooting news reporters and never relinquishing power.

I sold my assets and can leave anytime .

This place is about to become a powder keg

  15. [sigh]

This pompous editorial from The Nation has done an admirable job attempting to set a world record in rhetological fallacies used in a 600 word piece. But sifting through all the red herrings, straw man arguments, false equivalences, appeals to spite, ad hoc rescues, ad hominem attacks, false dilemmas, and circular logic (and for old times sake, two wrongs make a right), it is clear that the editorial board is suffering from either profound ignorance or willful ignorance (I suspect the latter) on the supposed role the US plays in Thailands current sociopolitical misadventure.

So, now its my time to drop some knowledge on you. Brace yourselves.

#1 Thailands beloved institution of the monarchy would never have survived the advance of communism in Southeast Asia without the help of the United States. Whether the US involvement in Thailand was for its own interests or to be altruistic is irrelevant. We were your friend of your country and monarchy then, and we still are now. Stop and really think about that for a <deleted> minute.

#2 Twelve coups détat and 19 out of 20 constitutions written by generals since 1932 prove that the militarynot politicians, and certainly not democracyare the culprit for Thailands never-ending governmental malaise. The current junta is no different. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss never rang truer.

#3 Shifting attention to the US decision to scale back diplomatic ties until martial law is rescinded, human rights are restored, and free elections are held once again, as if the US is attempting to bully the average Thai person is a disingenuous cover for the elites own failings in understanding what their role ought to be in a modern Thailand. The US is not intervening in Thailands affairs, period.

That said, I continue to believe in the potential of Thailand and its people. My country is a true friend of Thailand, despite our failings in dealing with many others, which I acknowledge. But, attacking the stance of the American government, as if we are constantly bad-mouthing ordinary Thais, their honor and their unique character, is absolute out of line and just another case of smoke and mirrors on the part of the junta, the elite, those who stand to gain from suppressing a free society, and those sheep who choose to cast their lot with such people.

Shame on The Nation for this rubbish.

Though I found your post refreshing to the people here who cowardly display Stockholm Syndrome and surrender meekly to domination....your last point might require some further observations.

The Nation did incredibly post some daring assessments up until a month ago.

I think the people who wrote those mysteriously might have suddenly seen the light .

The big Boss of Thailand just the other day expressed a penchant for walls and firing squads that up until now he is controlling with weekly speeches and polls.

Let us hope he has a safe trip in the US and nothing unexpected occurs.

Though I would be happy to see some Thai Citizens living in the Freedom of the United States ask him a few questions.

I sold my property and have cashed in my investments in Thailand as I see what I think to be an increasing Nationalist - xenophobic Thailand where rules could suddenly manifest overnight.

This PM is erratic and displays his disdain to us .

The most famous was the bikini comment on the murder and rape of a British Girl.

I think America knows well this PM has elected himself for keeps and they have walked away for now knowing democracy in this region is a problem.

Sometimes it's better to let a wayward sheep be torn apart by wolves ( insert China - Russia) and let the others in the flock witness it - than to continuously bother giving it your love and labour to nurture it.

Thailand has for many decades and centuries placed institutions ahead of its people's better future.

Let them be devoured externally and internally by their own inequality and willingness to bow down to them .

And the old saying "" it's better to die on your feet than to live on your Knees "" might take hold here when Yingluck goes to jail....

I for one am not going to bank on stability of this place once that does.

America walking away is just one of many omens that freedoms here are dwindling.

The guys at the Nation ( and girls) perhaps know they have choices .

And choose not to go missing.

  16. http://www.hrw.org/r...3/descent-chaos. Anyone interested in a report that highlights the brutal murders that took place , (without the childish lip service by some here to the Government white washing .)

    Read the above link.

That link does not work. This one is working: http://www.hrw.org/sites/default/files/reports/thailand0511webwcover_0.pdf

Thanks for the link, I hadn't read that one, and may be best truly unbiased report available.

Trying minus Gremlins ....see if this link works
