For retirement extensions, it's at least 800K for a couple months before applying, and then a couple more months after applying. And then, at least 400K for the remainder of the year cycle until a couple months before your next application. And rinse and repeat.800
800K is not required to be on deposit yearround, only 5-6 months of the year. And then the rest of the year it only needs to be at least 400K. At least, that's what Immigration's actual retirement extension rules say.
Marriage extensions are a lot simpler. Only 400K for a couple months prior to applying, and the no minimum amount thereafter, until just ahead of your next application cycle.
I don't agree. 800k route much simpler, but more expensive.

To retire anywhere comfortably is all about the money. Most people if they have the extra money they wouldn’t retire in Thailand.
Why not ?

Come on Dems, you're all over the place. Wake up, or expect a big election win for Trump.

It may seem counterintuitive but, despite the better economy, the opportunities for a guy with disposable income (whether Thai or foreign) are far broader now. It simply comes in a slightly less obvious form.
The boom years of Pattaya and the Thai bargirl industry were driven by the staggering gap between Thai incomes at the lowest levels and foreign incomes.
A typical sex worker from Isaan was primarily driven by a responsibility towards her impoverished (and demanding) family, and she might also already have a kid or two being cared for by that family. The industry was manned by a small proportion of Thai society.
Women from "better" backgrounds might have dabbled but most Thais never came anywhere close to the industry, it was simply a line they would not cross, even to the extent of not being willing to date foreigners.
Now, Thailand is pretty far into a (faltering) boom primarily driven by credit. People of all classes look around and see plenty of new cars, fancy electronics, new shopping malls. There appears to be plenty of money around and, in a sense, there is, but most of it is borrowed.
The material expectations of the average Thai, stoked by the Internet and social media, have grown massively, without any matching increase in levels of education, competence, or productivity. While the vast majority of Thai girls are now even less interested in the formal sex industry, their increased need for money and possessions has fueled a growing and unashamed culture of dating for gain.
In Asia, relationships have always been more blatantly about financial practicalities, but much of the taboo about dating foreigners has now disappeared or, at least, been overridden by women's sense of material lack, even those in good jobs.
If you can afford to bring a girl out to a very nice restaurant, or on a weekend to Singapore, the range of Thai girls who will be interested has vastly expanded, and the Internet has made it ridiculously easy to connect with them.
There is no age gap, lack of hair, excess weight, or general unpleasantness that cannot be overcome by maintaining a steady flow of gifts and treats. It is not prostitution, it is far more expensive than that, but the point is that the field of play has expanded massively.
The unique economic factors that energized the bar scene in the last century have pretty much petered out. It is no longer possible for a guy who is more-or-less broke by Western standards to fetch up in Pattaya and live a deliciously chaotic playboy lifestyle, spending amounts so low it almost didn't feel like prostitution. It was a situation whereby non-rich guys could get a sense of what it would be like to be rich.
Now you just have to be rich ????
Very well said. Peak years were the 60s, 70s and 80s, however still a good time to be had, at a price.

Sounds promising, but always be prepared for a let down. You should always try to pay, although I doubt they will let you.

I think you will find most Brits are of a mixed European race somewhere down the line as proved by DNA with the exception being some of the Welsh .
The last English king of England was Harold. Since then we've had French, Welsh, Scots, Dutch, Germans, and maybe others I've forgotten.

I'm afraid most countries suffer atrocities from time to time, and blaming foreigners for them is not unusual.

As per your own thinking just convert to the 800k route and avoid all this nonsense.

A waste of time and money because of which the Dems have handed the election to Trump on a plate. Really stupid.

After all the bravado, Trump back off Oval Office speech to the nation tonight after meeting with key aides in the WH. So no immediate response from the man who started this fire fight.
No need. He's clearly won this one by disposing of a really nasty piece of work without too much trouble. I suspect that privately the leaders in Teheran are not sorry to see the back of him either.

Smart move by Donald Trump. Response by Iran has been measured, with no apparent deaths as a result of their missile attacks. Job well done. Puts Trump's predecessors to shame, both Bush and Obama.

The cruel pain and terror we inflict on animals in order that we can stuff our faceholes is something that we, the human race, will eventually pay for.

I would go as far as to say that Thailand is not the right place to be for anyone of such immature temperament as exhibited by RasiMike in terms of both his actions during the driving incident, and by his subsequent post.

Personally I think what you did put your family in more danger.
Why not simply pull over and let the idiot go, end of story.
What you did, in my opinion was dangerous and foolhardy. It could have ended very badly for all of you.
But hey, I wasnt there, and each to his own, but what you did is not something I would to do or recommend to others.
I entirely agree. RasiMike's actions were utterly deplorable, potentially putting his family at great risk.

we get this nonsense on every dog thread, of course their are bad dogs, these include the ones who attack people like these vermin. Most dogs are sneaky devious creatures that will attack when they think they can get away with it and more likely when there is more than one. Some breeds of course like 'rotties' 'staffies' and 'pitties' just need eradicating completely
You're sick.

How to Retire in Thailand Comfortably

Here nearly 40 years. Still a great place to be. If you don't have enough money to retire here then don't come here and then start moaning about it.
