Bad News for Trump, bad news for all retirees
The headline stated 'bad news for all retirees'. Not necessarily. Far too early to tell.

Have you changed… or has Thailand?
The nightlife is a very pale shadow of what it was in the1970/1980s, and government and government legislation is less friendly towards foreigners than it was in those days. Food is still good though, and Thai people on the street are still friendly and helpful. Change is inevitable, everywhere, but Thailand is still a good place to live as far as I am concerned. To

Tourist Finds Cobra on Hotel Bed in Krabi
No idea why most people want to kill snakes, poisonous or not. They don't like to stay near people. Leave them alone and they will go away. They also efficiently dispose of vermin.

US Votes Against UN Slavery Resolution at General Assembly
Totally ridiculous to demand reparations from people who have never had anything to do with slavery.

Not a problem as far as I am concerned.

Do I need - should I get - Foreigner ID Card ?
I have had the pink ID card for a long time now. My opinion is it useful on many occasions including contact with the RTP, at hotels and clinics, and some banks. It also obviates the need to carry a passport at all times. While not essential it is worth having.

Who is the man who sold our world?
The question being asked is who is the man who sold our world ? The answer is no one man, or woman., but many since the beginning of time. There will be many more until, finally, our world is engulfed by the expanding Sun. Life on Earth will have ceased to exist long before that happens. Meantime we will have been sold and resold many times over.

So what brought you here — and what's keeping you?
First set foot in Thailand in 1962. Liked it a lot, visited many more times, and worked in Bangkok in the 1980s. In 1983 met the Thai girl who would marry in 1990. Retired to Thailand in 1993. Still very happy to be here with Thai wife, houses in Bangkok and Rayong, and 8 dogs and 8 cats. Now 85, will die here with no reason nor intention to ever leave.

Thailand's E-Cigarette Users Call for Ban Review Amid Rising Numbers
You are taking on the Thai Tobacco Monopoly which reserves for itself the right to poison and pollute in Thailand.

Do visa agents actually fix problems or can they make things worse?
My bank book is updated the day before as is my bank letter. Re 90 day reporting I sometimes go myself, sometimes my wife or somebody else. I appreciate that many people live a long way from an immigration office and that makes things much more difficult. I am fortunate in having houses in Bangkok and Rayong, neither of which are very far from government offices.

UK to Test Social Media Curbs on Teenagers in Nationwide Pilot
Ridiculous. No need to ban anything. It never works. Kids always find a way. In the 1940/1950s it was black and white postcard sized porn circulating in schools. This concern for the damage porn does is pious crap.

So what brought you here — and what's keeping you?
Initially holidays, later business visits, a work posting to Bangkok, and finally retirement in 1993. Now 85 and still very happy to be in Thailand with my Thai wife who I met in 1983.

Do visa agents actually fix problems or can they make things worse?
My point is that while I am still mobile, currently 85 years old, I have no need for either an appointment or an agent at CW. I normally arrive there around 7.30am and queue. Incidentally during my more recent 90 day reports at CW the elderly were being given the benefit of being placed ahead of the queue which has really speeded things up for me. I wonder if Immigration will do the same for for annual extensions.

My last two retirement extensions at CW based on 800k in the bank were finished by 1030 and 1100hrs respectively with no agent and no appointment.

Be honest, was it the traditional values that drew you to a Thai woman
Met my Thai wife in 1983 when I rented a minibus from her in Bangkok. She looked terrific and spoke pretty good English. As time went by I became aware of her great sense of humour, her honesty, and her kindness and competence in caring for animals (important to me). We married in Taiwan, where I had been posted, in 1990. I retired in 1993 and we returned to Thailand. Still very happy together in 2026. I am now 85, she is 72. Not aware that traditional values, as referred to by the poster, had much to do with this. Just two people who are good for each other.

UK Dismisses Claims Iran Missiles Could Reach London, Minister Says
Given the shockingly run down state of Britain's defences if I was a leader of the IRGC/Govt in Iran I could be tempted to have a shot at the UK.

Can Thailand stay an expat favourite under these new rules?
The Thai authorities have become increasingly intolerant and demanding over the last few decades. Thai people on the street, however, remain friendly and helpful. That might just be enough to still persuade visitors to come to Thailand, but the Thai government's negative attitude to foreigners is undoubtedly encouraging people to look elsewhere.
