Does anyone know the name of the mini-cabaret that Anthony Bourdain highlighted in CM about a year before his death?
Was this in Chiang Mai or where ?

Have a poster on my office wall, where its been for better than 10 or more years now. Its a poster for the old Simon's Dream Cabaret. Had a guest come in yesterday and ask about it. Of course its been closed for a good number of years now, and some of my memory cells are also apparently closed as well. Can any of our old timers out there recall when Simon's Dream opened or when it closed ? This guest would like to hear a little more about it. My old mind would appreciate any help with it , at all. Thanks in advance.

Wearing the mask was never for me..... just harder for me to breathe. But this morning coming into my office it was the worst I have ever seen it..... and that was just by eye sight. Got the mask on now. By the way ...... can anyone tell me how to have my morning coffee?? Can I get a straw with a filter anywhere?

Why didn't his friends examine what they shot? A shotgun is only efective up to 30 meters. Why didn't they report the "accident" to authorities?
Why didn't they????? 3 guesses and the first 2 don't count

I noticed it when throwing freshly opened beer bottle tops from the sofa to the bin in the kitchen. I used to nail it but have gone way off lately.. Up to 1 meter either side and some even landing in the sink.
If its your sink, don't worry about it...... if its the neighbors sink.... worry

Two people have told me today that the city will be closed (all business) after 6PM tonight. Is this just garbage talk or what. Something, one said , about a Royal Family member coming to town. Truth or fiction?

Interesting the way locals look at things. Stop by Lotus Tesco on the Super across from Lanna Hosp. In the inside parking just before the entrance, they have about 15 handicapped and mothers with baby strollers designated parking spaces.
I now know the signs in Thai and the painted designations must mean " park as many motorcycles here that you can "

Reference has been made to a guesthouse owners association or group trying to work on this problem. Anyone have any contact information on how to contact them?

Why did TV decide to eliminate the post number on each post? Now if you want to make reference to a specific post , to find it you need to go thru every post . Again why the elimination?

The OP seems to believe that all motor vehicles and motor cycles are tested every year, whereas I understand that the former are tested after 7 years and the former after 5 years and then yearly thereafter. Without the test certificate, which can unfortunately just be purchased from unreliable "testers", the car/bike cannot be taxed or insured, but of course that would not worry about 40% of the vehicles on the road.
As the OP, I will tell you what I believe. There is a loud noise ordinance, whether the noise is created by a brand new vehicle or a 10 year old one is immaterial. Not only this topic but any one..... if this developing country has desires of reaching "Developed Country, rather than Developing" status. those with little or lots of self perceived power, have , themselves to evolve from

Anyone have any updated info on this topic?? Are the older, smaller guesthouses that have been around for yonks just doing business as usual or are they being made to comply with the un-get-able hotel license requirement? To me a new separate guest house regulation is needed. Much like you would not expect an airliner to have the same regulation as an ocean liner just because they both carry passengers. (well, on second thought, maybe in Thailand they would) Are your local guesthouses doing nightly rentals or just shutting down?

Maybe I'm just getting too old, but these problems just seem to be getting worse.
Maybe they are illegal, or maybe I just think so. I know all road vehicles , cars, motos etc have to be inspected annually. Vehicles must be compliant with all safty laws and regs. So how do all these cyclists get away with gutting their mufflers until they are nothing but straight thru pipes. How do the traffic police not hear them and why are they not stopped and/or ticketed? Especially at 1, 2, in the morning when they take off from a red light and blast out their pipes. Its just getting worse and worse. The other thing is the jumbo speakers and the wide open volume of so called music, that is nothing more than a beat of thump, thump thump that has to be shared with the world in the also early morning hours. But the drivers , to show their generosity make sure to keep all windows open so all within a quarter mile can share. Why is there no crack down on this peace disturbance. Does it annoy anyone else??

If you had a friend or relative affected by the bombing of Pearl Harbor, please take just a minute of time tomorrow to show your respect and gratitude for their sacrifice.

This morning I had conversation with one of my guests. We were discussing living and old age. My guest mentioned that Methuselah lived over 900 years I mentioned that CM must be the right place to live as within two blocks of me there are two people one at 103 years and the other at 104 years of age. Then the old adage came to me..... you know the one...... "only the good die young". Accepting that as truth, then thinking logically, Donald Trump could live to be 2000.

My opinion is that this concocted story is a glorified bunch of bull. If they are being offered for sale its my opinion that smaller places like guesthouses are being put up for sale because they are being told they can no longer be offering nightly rentals. After being maybe built. & operating for 20 , 30 years or more, now being told they cannot rent nightly because of not having a hotel license, which they cannot get, short of a massive rebuilding or modification program. Some months back there was a newspaper article stating over 200 such places in CM do not meet the hotel regulation guidelines. Its not in the public interests to have guesthouses to be under the same regulations as the larger hotels. Separate regulations need to be created for a different product/user. The only benefit is gained by the larger hotels who gain from the guesthouses going out of business.

Had a couple of chicken fried steak lovers in yesterday who I think dropped a pair of glasses in my parking area. Regular glasses with black bold frames. They may just think they lost them someplace. Forgive me, but its true what they say about old age and ones memory. Knowing what they say about memory, I wrote down the Thai Visa name, but true to form..... I forgot where I put the paper. If you were here, had chicken Fried steak, and are missing your glasses, I have them.

Anyone seen this guy around, or know if has passed on.
For many years he was around and most knew him as Wild Bill. Had a long grey beard and would braid the bottom and tuck it into his shirt. Had, over the years some young local wives and lived much of the time up with the hilltribes. He would always stop and visit with us for a bit when in town, but haven't seen him for a few years. Was raising vegetables with the hill folks for some years. Do hope he hasn't passed cuz he was a very interesting character, Anyone have any word on him?

All these years I've been mistaken. I thought Mae West said "try it You'll like it". Sorry I couldn't resist.
I could be wrong, but I think that long, long ago on US Tv, the Gene Autry cowboy program , was sponsored by Wrigleys spearmint chewing gum, to which Gene Autry said .... try it,... you'll like it.

Thanks gang for re...clearing the chicken or beef discussion. Since Ramrod started this topic a few days ago I have just a few minutes ago had the third person come in thinking it was a chicken dinner. Its always that way when this named dinner comes into the discussion . But if you're not a totally committed veggo, come in and try it. For me its part of my youth food. As Gene Autry used to say " Try it. you'll like it" ( How many of you remember that line by him, years and years ago.

Talking about CM now, and I know the answer is out there. Talking about Grab Taxi Service. For someone disabled and totally using a wheelchair, do they offer a service for folks like this in CM?
