I think many here if given the chance would currently volunteer to colonize another planet as this one is so screwed up. It should be abundantly clear that the system is broken that the wrong people have been governing this planet for far too long.

Painful lessons must be learned if we have another recession since 1998.
Generals are bad at governing. Keep them out permanently.
Yellow shirts to be blamed for their stupidity to back the coups twice.
The junta constitution is highly skewed and have to be changed back to the 1997 people's charter.
Factories can't rely on cheap labors and must automate and mechanise to reduce workers
More efforts must be make to improve domestic tourism with better infrastructures etc
Mass foreign tourism need reviewed for smaller quality tourism

A technical recession, failed state, would be more accurate. How on earth do these academics and authorities dream this garbage up. Thailand is essentially unrecoverable.
Don't worry China is throwing a lifeline.

C'mon! a double dip recession is for wimps!
Let's push the boat out, nothing less than a Triple Dip Depression, with a side of out of control disease! Yeah baby! Burn like you mean it!
So sould this make Thailand a hub of recessions?

I generally keep some ciprofloxacin around and pop one if I suspect a case of food poisoning but try to get it in the early stages unless it is more sever than you will need more cipro and a week or more of cipro can temp weaken your muscles resulting in a possible tear if you are active.

Ironic thing is if Thaksin did return so many who criticized him would now be happy to see him.

Hard to even respond to such inane statements. Why? Because I have some issues with the place? Sorry to inform you, but the nature of a discerning mind, is to have issues.
Though absolute contentment must be a beautiful state of mind, it is not something most of us are blessed with, in case you have not noticed. The fact that I complain, does not mean I do not love Thailand, nor most of it's people. I do. I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. I should leave because of that? Many of us need someplace to vent. So, a forum like this is the perfect spot. Some of us try to do it in a civil manner (in regard to my fellow ex-pats, certainly not the government, which deserves no respect), and try to keep the emotion out of it. Some simply reveal their juvenile nature with comments that are not well thought out!
Unfortunately for many ignorance is bliss. It is far easier to not think about things then to accept an uncertain reality and as Mark Twain explained it is always easier to be conned than to admit to being conned.

What is so funny is people not able to figure out the truth about anything.
It's like the idiots who tell you that you need to vaccinate because wearing a mask forever is not enough. Ridiculous.
really so all the "experts" that have studied the longevity of the virus on many surfaces are all wrong? do you apply alcohol to your hands when you enter an establishment or return home? i am not talking about masks but is quite evident that this coronavirus and others such as common flues can be transmitted by touch...

even the Thais get scammed if they had your money they would be further scammed.... one needs only to look at how they scam poor thais in these difficult times by illegally charging 2 or 3 times the current govt electric rate per kw and what does the govt do they allow it and then say the people are getting a break with a 20 percent reduction in electric bill or similar... a 20 percent reduction from a triple inflated bill for many poor thais... what a country

Perhaps some of that same "passion for the law" can be devoted to arresting, convicting and imprisoning some of Prayuth's men on the border, who are taking a bit of tea money, to let infected Burmese enter the nation? How about arresting a human trafficker, or a human sex slave trader once in a while? What about the owners of the factories, that allow the operation of a place with 3,000 infected workers? Isn't that somehow more important than busting a few foreigners having a beer?
yeah but this fits their narrative quite well of nasty foreigners (non Chinese) bringing in the virus...

Masks aren't as effective as the OP thinks, especially with Delta. It's not a matter of IF you're going to get infected, but more like WHEN.
Do I think Thai immigration will mandate vaccines for expats?
I don't know.
But I think that when the vaccines become as easily accessed as in the U.S., perhaps they should!
so what happened to transfering the virus from surfaces etc.? you could wear five masks and just have to touch a 20 baht bill from a shop or elsewhere and get the virus? or have they now reversed this? then why the alcohol? ... seems the story keeps changing...

Most food is prepared using copious amounts of cooking oil: Palm, Coconut, Soi Bean, Peanut, etc. Additionally large amounts of sugar is added to many dishes and Thai restaurants substitute salt & pepper condiments with sugar, soy sauce, and chili. This is a slow gut bomb recipe that is responsible for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other heath issues.
If the highways don't get ya the food will!
coconut oil is a very healthy cooking oil if you must fry however it is not commonly used here but the unhealthy palm oil is cause its way cheaper

Also listing any preconditions might put some at ease but this does not seem to be common in the msm.

Glad you didn't say something like: "I might have filled you up..." . As there was some laxity on Soi 6, regarding the use of condoms.
Or "you certainly are good with a hose where did you work before?"
In all seriousness she is probably not thrilled with the idea. In a western country she could be sitting on her ass receiving free money. Not so in Thailand where people struggle to survive.

I think Casinos are a certainty, new condos and Malls are still being built, investments of billions of baht, they are not doing this for nothing, they are not doing this in the hope that sex tourists from the likes of the UK come here to get drunk for 2 weeks in Soi 6.
I believe that people who are investing Billions of Baht probably have some insider knowledge of the future plans for a new Pattaya, and those plans won't be factoring in the old demographic.
or the bank loans have been previously approved and this is just the result of commitments made years ago... how many new ones?

Nothing wrong with dreaming. Starting salary for masters degree qualified is around 20k. I have a couple of staff in that category. My masters degree staff with 10years experience are getting between 55 to 65k as junior managers. 80k would be for managers and above with over 10yrs experience. This is for Thai educated people. If you plan to study here without a degree you have 0 chance of making 80k in a Thai company ever. I wouldn’t hire someone who thought about money more so than the job.
you are underpaying your employees...

Sadly, it is only the tip of the iceberg, worse things are yet to come until most people will be vaccinated, which will be a mammoth job to implement in the coming months...
not if they wake up and reopen the country it seems rather evident that these lockdowns are not very effective vaccinations can continue with an open economy it is this attitude of lockdown and vaccinate that is killing the country

Incoming vaccinated tourists almost certainly are very little risk to the local population. But, in order to attract those visitors it’s necessary for the local environment to be more open. People need to mix more to provide the services that tourists would like to enjoy whilst on holiday. That means higher Covid risk among the local population, not because of the tourists themselves, but because of the behavior that they engender.
it’s only a risk of course. And sometimes risk is worth taking. To that end, already thousands of doses of vaccines have been sent to Phuket to vaccinate healthy young people. So in that example, the risk lies primarily with the elderly living elsewhere who did not get vaccinated. Several hundred thousand people.
cases in Phuket have been rising week on week for the last three weeks. Not because of the tourists, but because of the local environment.
yes if these vaccines work like they say they do why are people even being tested if vaccinated?

Cheaper and easier to get to (from Chiang Mai), way better beach with clean sand and water. No visible prostitution, cheap public transport, bars serving beer at $1/bottle.
Why would anyone go to Pattaya?
now that they have completely killed the nightlife, bars, etc. it will return as a super cheap low cost destination where the chinese can sit on beach chairs covered in towels and buy copied goods at the malls...

So let me get this the poster has not lived in Canada for three decades much less America yet he forms a strong opinion about what is right about Canadians and what is wrong about Americans. I have lived decades in both countries as well as Thailand and I can tell you when you strip down the msm hype and and observe the people as they are there is little difference between Americans and Canadians.

Good points Mike. I would agree with many. Problem is the rest of the world is probably equally screwed up. However, I see two options under consideration Turkey and Mexico.
The ruling class here are terrible people only offset by the goodness I see in many real Thais.
