Great example of Thai values in monk hood. Grossly unacceptable - no place in religion for people like this.
no place in religion for people like this.
No place in anything for religion.

I've been told by a Thai that the monk is probably not a 'real' monk and that he had been drinking. He apparently hit the farrang because the farrang was 'yak-yaking' him.
What is yak yakking?
You mean talking?

Came across this little gem that is doing the rounds.
Dont know what this farang did to warrant this slap, but apparently it was his third.
I thought these monks were above being pissed off

How big was the bike?
What were the circumstances? Hit a buff maybe? Doesn't sound like another vehicle was involved.
I had a mate who hit a cow and had similar injuries, but had good medical help and survived.
Or possibly helped off his bike by another vehicle ?
Being driven by cough cough.

It doesn't matter HOW the senate, cabinet or PM is put into place..... They will always be corrupted. That is as sure as god made little green apples.
All they need to do is have the corruption monitored and all political perps of corruption slammed into a prison cell for 20 years with their assets and that of their entire family removed.
Its not the route to power that is wrong, it is the absolute impunity they have in office.

One simple workaround is to pre-sell tickets for a New Years Eve party at a certain inflated price and you get entry plus 10 free drinks.
Technically they are not selling drinks on that day.... they are merely delivering them.

It has also been reported that the court are now awaiting documents from the UK government to see if the parents of the victims will jointly enter the prosecution or not. The Samui court also made a preliminary appointment for considering evidence Koh Tao case documents on 25th February 2015.
Now this should be very interesting.
This will show if the families of the victims are indeed convinced that these two were the actual perps.
If I know the British, they will NOT add their names to this prosecution if there is a shred of doubt.... They wont want to have ANY involvement in a possibly corrupt case that will end up in the deaths of a further two more people in the names of their dead family members, thus allowing their real killers to walk free to enjoy the rest of their lives.
If they refuse to join the prosecution, this will scream volumes to the whole case.

They are risking the death penalty for protesting their innocence.
If they were involved and knew they did it, and that a confession would probably almost certainly have got them a life sentence and possibly even freedom in say 15 to 20 years when they were still relatively young... I am almost sure they would have confessed.
It takes a lot of bravery to stand up for your rights to the point it could end with your execution.
If they are indeed sentenced to death.... Then this incident on Kho Tao will clock up 4 murders at the hands of Thais, with all the killers enjoying the rest of their life in freedom.

That's fine so long as it is a seat taken away from Labour.

If they ARE Cambodians, they will feel the full weight of the law, if they were Thai.... cough cough.
How many Thais do we actually see face punishment for crimes against westerners?
I am not surprised that people don't trust that these Cambodians are the true culprits, seeing as we all know how much they scapegoat migrants. Something Thailand has brought upon itself.

sadly, if her name are on the deeds and the logbook....its HER house and HER car.....and now he's wasting money on lawyers. I hope the judge sees fit to force to give something back, out of a sense of simple fair play, but to the letter of the law, ID suggest there's no chance, no hope and no money :-(...........
This also is not true.
Irrespective of whose name the property is registered in, if another party can prove that the property was purchased with assets belonging to them, then the courts will rule that the property belongs to that person.
Consider for example, an epileptic who can not get a driver's license which was a pre-requisite for purchase of a car. The eplieptic gives money to a third party to purchase the car for them, and the third party registers the car in the third party's name.
Of course once the courts see proof that it was really the epileptic who paid for the car, the courts will rule that the car belongs to the epilepetic, not the third party in whose name the vehicle is registered.
All sensible logical stuff but you are stepping on the toes of the anti-thais !!
Out of interest, how do you define 'anti-Thai'?
I mean, obviously you are an apologist, and a bit more politically correct than most. But do you realise how the average Thai sees YOU?
Any comments for Thais who see farang as meal tickets, crime targets, clueless, buffalo, or just see them as walking ATM machines with no feelings. There for the taking so to speak.
I think you may be a bit surprised just how many think this way. It may leave you red faced.
People who know the score on how to live here relatively safely and not be taken for a complete mug are not anti-Thai... far from it, they are just streetwise and smarter than yourself.

I am married to a Thai and have been for 3 years now.
I made sure I lived here for 2 years before marrying her, just to make sure I knew all about her, and even though I have the money in my UK bank, I have never brought more than a few hundred thousand baht here at any one time. I have my own Thai bank account and the money is in there. She has an ATM card, but if she were to dump me and systematically attempt to empty the account, i would have the card cancelled and the most she could get is 20K.
I have also bought the house on a 30 year mortgage even though I can buy it outright, I feel safer on a mortgage, as well as the car I have got it over 7 year loan...
So if she dumped me, she is welcome to the house and car and all the future payments that go along with it.
Those who buy houses and cars outright are playing a dangerous game.
I totally trust my wife, but nobody knows what is in the future.

Not enough info.
If this is in Thailand and he is already divorced, then it is a done deal. When I divorced my first wife, the authority at the amphur ask me before he gave the divorce if there was anything we bought together since the marriage. He wanted to know show it could be divided equally. So if this guy is divorced I think it is way to late.
Not enough info?
The post stated clearly that it is his 'ex-gf'.
No wife, so divorce etc.

Not making judgements only curious as to why so many farang guys get themselves into situations where they have to rely on Thais to take care of them and run all their affairs in Thailand. I know one Canadian guy, that after his Thai wife died about a year ago, he became like a fish out of water.
I also see this a lot when out, in banks, post offices and so on, where the Thai wife or partner is doing all the business and the farang just sitting there looking lost and bewildered with the Thai wife having to do the explaining and translating between the parties.
Your NOT making judgements?
These are cases where the farang husbands have manipulated their Thai wives into becoming substitute mothers and have to wonder, how did these guys ever manage to survive prior to their marriages and how would they survive if their Thai wives walked out on them or died?
These guys appear to be rather pathetic individuals. Like little boys who need to be lead by the hand.
Then there is this
So what is it with these guys? It is because they are lazy and prefer to rely on others to manage their affairs or were they brought up by pussy parents and spoilt as children or suffering from weaknesses of character and simply not able to cope on their own?
I would say these were totally judgements of others.
You seem to forget that a lot of these farangs are out of their cultural loop. I for one will never understand how Thais think about certain things. Nor will I ever totally get to grips with the Thai way of doing certain things. also my wife knows this and PREFERS to take over with certain things.
I a with the other poster here.... I speak a bit of Thai but am never fully confident that what I am saying is what a Thai is hearing. My wife is fluent and always ends up taking over whether I like it or not. Things get done more efficiently that way, so why struggle doing things the hard way?... After all isn't that what farangs do best.... efficiency?

There is lots of gold in the Loie mountain range.
There are foreign companies who hold mining licences and are quite efficient at processing the gold ore.
I am pretty certain that you have to pay the government 7% and of course whatever you have to pay under the table to get a mining license in the first place.
Dredging?.... I am not 100% certain that this is a good way to get gold here.... There are crocs and snakes and stuff in the water... I certainly would not feel comfortable scurrying around under the surface not knowing what is behind me. Most of the mining here is hard rock. There is a bit of panning going on with the poor country folk picking up tiny amounts of flour gold in the sands. But dredging I am yet to come across.
Mind you. I am actually very interested in gold mining and have been for some time now. I have often thought about it in Thailand but to be honest I am very wary of the local people and once they get a whiff of a farang gold mining, then there is an ever present risk of finding yourself at the point of a gun. Especially if you look like you found some. I am sure they would love your nice shiny dredge.
I am not trying to put you off, if you wanted to then go for it.
But if I were you, I would seriously put your focus into somewhere that is guaranteed to be a lot richer in gold and is at the moment still untapped. Somewhere the licenses are much easier to get hold of and where you will be a lot more encouraged. A place where I have had my interest for a while now, and it is NOT Thailand, but no so far away from here.
If you are seriously interested and can get a decent dredge over here, you can PM me.

Those who sit in public judgement of others are seldom on the moral high ground, and are much more akin to harbouring their own deep rooted insufficiencies that they prefer to hide behind that facade of a self righteous stone thrower.
I would start worrying more about your own faults rather than preoccupying yourself with other people's lives.

Came across an interesting post put up on a 'public' Thai expat facebook page today.
I won't give the guy's name on here, even though he has taken the choice to make this public, I don't see any value in having his details posted here.
Basically, this is what was posted and offered up for comment.
OK just a quick post today 4 Dec I go to court, this is to try and get some of my money back off the ex GF, she has my house and car and all personal belongings, which she refuses to give back. It starts at 0900 but the case will be at 1000/1030. Anyone else having the same problem and think that the Thai will win the case all the time, then come along and watch. My lawyer is English, his office is in Pattaya.Personally I think this is a classic example of trusting everything into the girlfriend's name and the courts will rule against him. I doubt his English lawyer will be anything other than a square peg in a round hole in a Thai courtroom.
So what do you think his chances are?

Sixty-two per cent said the scandal showed humanity's greed for power and money.
Speak for yourselves. Not for the rest of humanity... This scale of greed is not found in that many places outside of Thailand.

How often do Thai fishing boats encroach in other nation's waters I wonder?
I seem to remember a certain incident when Thais illegally fishing in Indonesian waters actually murdered two Indonesian naval officers and threw them overboard.
Thais seem to have free reign to commit crimes against non-Thais with complete impunity. Look at how that news never got followed up on. Same as a certain German stabbed to death in Samui recently and even the KT case and many others that come to mind and are just too many to touch on.

Sommai also assumed the poll would be delayed by at least three months if a public referendum were sought on the charter draft.
But the new constitution was scheduled to be ready by April.... Now September. Nothing stopping them from having the referendum while the other reforms are being completed is there.
What they are not factoring in, is that how long is the delay going to be IF the people reject the charter in a referendum?.... and what if the people continuously reject each new version of the charter??
Also with the new public gathering laws, seems they are going to ban all public protests. One step closer to the PDRK style of 'control'.If you stop the people from protesting, you just drive them underground and inadvertently plant the seeds of terrorist plots instead. Because if you remove the people's ability to voice their concerns publicly, they will feel the need to make their voice heard in other ways.- 2

Enjoy your new home.
Must be ultra-frustrating to be locked up for stealing by people who will probably eventually steal everything you stole.
Not everyone thinks this is about stopping corruption. This is about finding people the powers that be can relieve of certain money and possessions.

Tep, you make some very valid points, all backed up by independent research.
But the anti immigration lobby will ignore you; even though many of them are themselves immigrants living in Thailand for economic reasons!
Just like the EU migrants in the UK; most of whom who come to work.
To the people who say these EU migrants are taking jobs from British people, I have one question.
Why are these jobs available to these migrants; why have British people not already taken them?
In many cases it's because British people don't have the necessary skills, or the jobs are menial and low paid and British people don't want them.
I am not denying that some EU migrants do take advantage of our benefits system; or at least try to.
I am not denying that some reform is necessary.
But anyone who knows something of the freedom of movement regulations can tell you that much of what Cameron has said is hot air designed to appeal to the right wing of his party and possible UKIP defectors; many of the 'changes' he proposes are not changes at all; they are already in the regulations.
Take one aspect; the 'find work in 6 months or leave." The regulations actually say job seekers are only supposed to stay for three months; Cameron wants to allow them double the amount of time in the regulations!
Why are these jobs available to these migrants; why have British people not already taken them?
Erm.... Perhaps it is because when these job openings come up the employer goes straight for the person he can pay the least amount of money to. Regardless of what their competence is.
These are not jobs that sit on the open market for years being ignored by the British people.... these are jobs being secured in direct competition with British people.
As for trying to make a comparison between people coming to live in Thailand with EU migrant workers is a bit pathetic.
How can you compare Thai immigration and the rights of migrants in Thailand to a complete open door migration policy with full welfare benefits tacked on for good measure?
So if I go and apply for a job in Thailand, earn the minimum wage, will they pay my tax through tax credits?... will they pay cash in the hand for all the children i bring with me?.... Will they subsidize my rented accommodation?.... will they give me free healthcare treatment?.... will they educate my kids for free?.... will they give me a pension I can retire comfortably on?.... Will they pay me child benefit for kids I haven't even brought to Thailand and have nothing to do with Thailand?..... The fact is.... I bring money INTO this country and I am married to a Thai national... same as many people here. We are NOT all teachers.
As for Tep.... If I say it is 'fact' it is because I know it to be 'fact'.... rich coming from someone who copy and pastes contrived reports and tries to present them as 'facts'.... You clearly have no idea how politics work.
-
It sort of pisses me off with this contrived UCL study that crows on about migrants being a net benefit to the UK.
That report would have almost certainly have been contrived to add to the armoury of the loony left. But misses the point on lots of issues facing the UK.
As for the £20Bn net benefit... Bullshit!
They did not factor in the most obvious point that mass migration has in fact compressed wages for the past 10 years and in some extreme cases, some companies and especially the employment agencies are actually paying LESS than they were 10 years ago. So that means even the British worker's salary has been muted and that means less income tax across the entire board. That in itself would be hundreds of billions in lost income tax over that 10 year period.
Then you need to look at the strain on public services that mass immigration is having. How the hell can a country look at the issue of say the education system with an open door immigration policy?... How can we sit down and say, 'look... what effect will immigration have on the system in 5 years'?... We don't know, because we have no clue about how many kids we will have at school age in 5 years... We have no clue about if there will be 66 million in the country or 85 million.... we just don't know.
Same with health, housing and all the rest of the infrastructure required for a stable society.
The British are NOT better off with an open door policy, they are worse off by far. It is breeding hatred and nationalism in the country on a daily basis.
Cameron is talking out of his ring. He has promised us 'something big' on immigration for weeks now and we already have been reading about this before he made his speech. So it is nothing new. It was already in the Telegraph a week ago that some of his back benchers advised him to promise a renegotiation with Brussels on sweeping reforms for Britain on the free movement of people across the EU or he would support the 'OUT' campaign in a referendum.... This was to pull the rug out from under Nigel Farage. and UKIP.... But that is if we ever get a referendum on leaving the EU which of course we will not.
people seem to forget that his words in the run up to the last election in 2010 was that he would guarantee the people a referendum on EU membership if they voted for him, and they voted for him and as soon as he was in power we had the all too familiar 'u-turn'. He did it then and he will do it again.
Hecan NOT negotiate the Lisbon Treaty with the EU.... He would need the support of 27 other countries to do that and already he has the disapproval of Germany, the main country that runs Brussels. and When the Germans say NO... they all say NO. When the Germans say NO, there will be no going back. They are straight talking and they would rather see the UK out of the EU than watch the Lisbon Treaty being unpicked.
Cameron is trying to 'out-UKIP' UKIP...... They seem to be taking UKIP's policies as their own one by one..... why? Because they has totally lost the trust of the people and they see the rise in UKIP support as a major threat. They call UKIP fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists..... so why are they stealing their policies????????
What has happened to them in the last 2 by-elections?
Britain is waking up to the mess Labour and the Con/LD coalition has put us in. I hope every migrant who ever claimed a benefit without working gets thrown out of the country and banned for life.
Over the period 2001 - 2011 European immigrants contributed 64% more in taxes than they received in benefits. This finding from the research is based on data. It is consistent with all the other research for the UK and other countries. Disprove this. You cannot, so you rant against the institution, the report and society. You introduce irrelevancies. The data is based on tax receipts to the Treasury so your sole counterpoint on 'wage compression' is irrelevant. You are clearly not economically literate.
The research shows that there are no strains on public services. Public services benefit from the increase in treasury receipts. This is data driven fact based research and analysis.
Proceed with shaking your fist at the sky. Expend your energy on this by all means. But you do not provide one iota of evidence, data or fact to counter the findings of the report. Until you do, people who come to considered, rational views on issues will rightfully ignore you.
Just one piece of relevant data to counter this research and its findings. Just one.
Leave it to you to introduce UKIP to a posting about UK fiscal policy.
The fact that you copy and pasted something that has (as I have already pointed out) been contrived for the benefit of the lefties is a statement that you have no mind of your own.
The fact of the matter is that 70% of the British public want OUT of the EU.
By the way..... that so called £20Bn net tax benefit over the past 10 years represents about 0.5% of total income tax receipts.... Over the past 10 years how much tax have we lost by wages being driven down?
Just go read your Guardian. This subject is for people who can think for themselves. If you want to know UKIP fiscal policy, get off your arse and go find it yourself... you can start with doing a youtube search for 'UKIP conference' or 'Patrick O Flynn' who is economic spokesman for UKIP.
I am sorry for you if you can be manipulated by media spin.

So far you have criticized the guy for not using Thai, although you dont really know if he even knows how to speak it, which he probably can seeing as he is a languages teacher. You then criticize folks for not having a handle on the culture. Then you criticize the monk as something creepy.
I would say that both your posts actually show yourself as not having a clue about Thai culture that you accuse others of not understanding.
I think it all just started off with you wanting to show off to the forum that you can speak a little Thai.... Wow... So impressive.
