The reason I haven't got into Wifi details too much is the router hard to get to without a ladder and we have had True out here 3 times over speed issues. Been down that road already and according to them its as good as it gets. The router is only 6-9 months old. The tech actually showed me he speed test on his laptop near 900mbps if that is the correct terminology. I still reckon he had a screenshot saved on his laptop use for just such a demo. Anyway, that being said I am only interested in comparing devices. Good or bad internet connection will an older device be noticeably slower on a live stream (internet wise / not system wise) than a newer model? If we are only talking nano seconds, not full seconds I wont worry. Thanks for all the advice 🙂 I don't really know anything about this stuff and probably talking nonsense

The router is hard to get at to check but from True and under a year old. They changed it when we complained about speed last time. Most of the pages we view that is time critical is live so not so concerned about speed of opening new pages....just receiving the ongoing live broadcast faster if possible. So all things being equal you are saying the actual internet speed of a newer / better tablet will be pretty much the same? Just the overall performance of the tablet will be better?

I am currently using a cheaper Tablet, Huawei about 3 or 4 years old. It works well but chugs a bit after a while. Use it mainly for surfing and online auctions where internet speed is important. I want to get something a bit better hopefully faster but don't want to spend huge money as most of my internet stuff done on the phone or PC. I wont be using it for banking apps, games or such. Looking at maybe a used Ipad Gen 8, Gen 9 (release date 2020 / 2021) seems to be in my price range. Look like the support life of these might finish next year or year after that. Is that going to be an issue for me? I am pretty sure the general performance will be better but will my speed on the internet re bidding live online auctions improve much? I notice when I look at my current tablet side by side with my PC, when viewing a live broadcast my current tablet lags by a second or two and this also means my bids will be a second or two later. Any advice appreciated

I normally buy from Thailand / locally if possible. Usually don't have time to wait for delivery from China etc. I noticed about 3 months ago when searching I lost the option to search by location "local". Really annoying. Most of the items come up from China but at least you could see in your results where the items where being delivered from. I see the last week or two location of the product isn't shown on the search page until you actually click on the item and the search seems to favor items located in China first, where before the first few pages where items avail in Thailand. Now nearly 4 or 5 pages in until you get to any items available in Thailand. I don't have any filters set for cheapest etc and like I said no option to search by location unless you want to tick every town in Thailand which takes forever as it refreshes every time. I laugh when I see headlines about a company (Temu?) flooding Thailand with cheap Chinese goods. Surely they can't be worse than Lazada. I am guessing this is propaganda peddled out by Lazada / Shopee or people being sponsored by them. Shame because Lazada were great. Now nearly unusable

Was about 1700 baht, google the watts for yourself 🙂 I did check out the other cheaper tower fans and they didn't have everything I wanted, most importantly to remove the turbine easily for cleaning. You will also find some of those cheaper ones not very tall, would barely get over the height of your bed if you were using it sleeping.

Can highly reccomend the MI Tower fan. Its so quiet often forget to turn it off 😂

Thai Actress’s Brother Refuses Settlement with Russian Attacker
Kenny202 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Shouldn't be too quick to condemn as everyone did with the Swiss guy kicking the "doctor" on the steps at Phuket. Admittedly it didn't look too good for the guy at the time but the court threw the case out the other day. Turns out her injuries weren't actually seen or examined by anyone and her PTSD claims were rejected as fiction. Not sure what the guy did or how bad it was but apparently nothing like she claimed and certainly not enough to have someones life and reputation destroyed and possible deportation and loss of ones life style / property. The court said the video proved nothing and there were no signs of physical aggression. If you have ever had a car accident where the other party was clearly in the wrong for eg: driving on the wrong side of the road, 15yo, unlicensed of course, with an unregistered vehicle, and admitted to having his phone in his hand whilst the accident occurred.....then have to endure the whole family with theirs grubby paws out for a payout.....you would realize often we are sitting ducks here. An easy mark. -
The problem in an AC motor at low speed is called hunting. They just aren't designed to run at low speeds... there is no torque. Combined with that the motor shaft can usually move forward and back in the fans even with decent bearings. That's where the noise comes from. This is why they have start / run windings on AC motors that are working any sort of load. One winding simply cant do all speeds. One winding for low speed / torque to start up....the other for cruising once up to speed. And a Variac wont solve the problem. A Variac is basically controls the voltage through resistance / electronics...like a fan control or dimer. Will be exactly the same effect on the fan (noisy) as using a cap across the supply or any other voltage reducer.

I got the MI (Xiaomi)tower fan. So far delighted with it. So quiet I keep forgetting to turn it off lol

Anyone have the Cuizimate 70L Stainless oven?
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Western Food in Thailand
Swear buy it. Use it every day. If it died today even after only a couple of years (I have flogged it to death) I would be out tomorrow to buy another. No downsides at all to mention and nothing yet failed on it... And believe it or not Im not usually a Tefal fan -
Got it this morning and set it up. So far very happy with it if it stays this quiet. No remote control in the box, only via the app on the phone. At first I couldn't install it said only avail in mainland China so on the app set location to same and good as gold. This one was around 1700 baht and Xiaomi which is usually a good brand. There are others a lot cheaper for around 600 baht may do the same job. My main concern was ease of cleaning (I know our air con fans usually start losing efficiency after 4 or 5 months / need cleaning) and low / quiet power and this one seems to tick all boxes 🙂 Be excellent for night time and sleeping and has a few smart features like timers (to turn off / on after a while if required), sleep mode, oscillates side to side of course. Other maybe a small thing is a small foot print. Kids are always brushing past the fans and knock the heads in the wrong direction. This one just tall and slim

Usually when you lose speed control its a failed capacitor. Sometimes in the wall controller, others have the cap in the cowl over the fan motor. Normally one screw to loosen and cowl will slide up and out the way. Make sure you turn the breaker off of course. Sometimes they switch the neutral and there is still an active wire there. Usually a little black square block looking thing with two wires on it. Easy to get and easily replaced. That's if they still use capacitors these days and not some electronic wizardry
-
I already bought the other one but send me the link if you have it please. Might be able to use it somewhere else. You sure its 16"? That's a biggish fan. No guard? Is it rechargeable or direct connect?

Called an orbital fan I think. Theyre great. Are they slower than a normal pedestal fan?
-
I'm an electrician used to live in North QLD spent a few years installing ceiling fans. On low speed they are definitely slower than a pedestal fan but move larger volumes. IMO the best fan for a room or patio. If I wasn't renting the place I would definitely install them. Other upside they are cheap as chips

Will do 🙂

You cant run an AC fan on DC can you? And I wouldn't use a DC rated controller to control the voltage either
-
I settled on this Xiaomi one. Look like pretty good reviews re gentle speed, low noise and easy to clean. DC inverter which means you have very low and overall good speed control and torque. Basically an aircon fan but a lot easier to clean. Take off the back panel and the whole rotary turbine thing comes out to pressure wash outside. Got a pretty good deal too with Lazada coupons for 1600 baht delivered. Should be the ticket hopefully 🙂 Thanks all for the advice
-
I tried it too. The problem is in the fan for sure as such but AC fans don't have the torque to run at lower speeds and they hunt and pull in out etc which makes them noisy.
-
You really should go and get some help 😞 Your condition appears to be deteriorating
-
There must be something for people sleeping I would have thought (apart from a 30k Dyson). I see some of these tower fans look ok but the reviews mostly in Thai. The long thin upright ones. Only concern I would have about these apart from if you can have a slow speed is they look like an air con style rotary fan and wonder how easy they would be to dismantle and clean the blades
-
Got pedestal / desk fans at home and they all run too fast even on low. Tried putting capacitors etc in and they slow them down a bit but then you get a lot of rattling and bearing noise. Does anyone know of a small personal fan you can control the speed right down? A ceiling fan would be ideal but I rent so I wouldn't want to make permanent alterations. Still want a decent coverage say 10-12" blade. Any help appreciated

Thai newlywed woman left in debt after dowry promise broken
Kenny202 replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
I must have been to 30 Thai weddings and never seen more than 100 people there, and that may be stretching it. A lot of hangers on and village drunks but more than 100 is ridiculous
