  1. My GF has a credit card debt from about 6 years ago with a company called Eon. They gave up chasing her about a year ago. Before were at her to make payment plans etc but she was fully committed paying off 3 other cards. Anyway looked like they gave up. The debt is about 30000 baht. Yesterday she got a call from another company called JMT who my wife seems to think has "bought" the loan off Eon. Reason is she called Eon and they basically said they have no record of her anymore so sounds like she might be right. She has recently paid off two other credit cards and maybe that has showed up somewhere and sent them a red flag, hence they have become more vigilant. She discussed with them the possibility of a monthly payment plan and they said no, too late for that. If she doesn't pay by the end of the month they will start court proceedings. Firstly if Eon has sold or transferred the debt to another company, can they legally pursue it through the courts as the debt was not with them? Would they really take her to court over 30000 baht? I imagine all the court would do is make the parties work out a payment plan anyway. She has no real assets or job by the way. They have made an offer of a one off payment of 22,000 to clear it all by the end of the month which sounds like a great offer, but again I am not even sure of these peoples right to collect this money. For eg if Eon have written the debt off why should we pay this crowd and what would be gained? Just for the record, before anyone starts judging...I had a fair bit to do with collecting money back home and I despise defaulters. Yeah she should have paid them and all that but I don't want to pay someone who isn't legally entitled to the money if at all possible. And how to verify it all so she is in fact clearing the debt. These people may have bought the loan at a very low price and perhaps have no legal right to collect the money as they are not acting as an agent for the principle
  2. She had raised bumps everywhere lol. Do I need to paint u a picture? 5555
  3. I have a parental extension already, but I was under the impression you had to have 100% custody to get it. So if for example you had sheared custody or maybe only weekends etc you were not eligible for a parental visa
  4. I take care of my child full time basically since born, 6 years now. I haven't (but should) go to the courts and seek full custody I guess. She might see him for an hour or so every year or two. Never sends gifts or supports in anyway. Not married to my sons mother but have a court paternity ruling, registered at the Amphur etc. What happens should my ex decided she wanted to take care of my son part time / full time.....maybe visit me on weekends etc? Under those circumstances can I still get a parental visa? I am sure once they told me only eligible for parental visa if I have 100% care...... which I thought was odd. I mean it may be the only option I have to get a visa and live here here and may have to leave my child here and go back home. Many would also no longer continue to support the child. They seem to make odd rules sometimes that are in no way in Thailand or Thai peoples benefit. What rights do I have? I doubt she will want him anytime soon but if somehow it was in her interest she may change her mind.....
  5. Not sure if they have the meds you describe but man I had a bad experience with them when I was 16yo. I told the girl who gave them to me (whom I thought had 13 clitoris at the time, how inexperienced I was lol) to get me some of the medication she got as I was too embarrassed to get it myself. Which she did with no instructions. I got a tiny lump come up and thought will nip this in the bud and proceeded to paint little Kenny all over with the brown paint she gave me. Turned out it was sulphuric acid which you are meant to just dab a pin <deleted> of the mixture on the wart. Long story short I burnt a hole nearly 1cm deep and 2cm round on my old boy. Was one of the most painful things I ever went through, nearly 3 months to heal. As far as them coming back they can, and many years later too. I got another one about 15 years later, a week before the date of my life. I was that desperate I cut it off with a toenail cutter! Blood everywhere but never came back again. Hopefully the meds a lot better these days
  6. Got a Samsung Aircon 18000 about 4 years old. Basic air con, not inverter. Regularly cleaned and serviced every 4 or 5 months. Recently done about 2 weeks ago. The remote has stopped working. The screen and everything is ok. New batteries. Everything appears to be functioning. I tested that there is an IR signal coming out of the LED (in my camera) and all ok. I cleaned the plastic screen covering the remote sensor on the unit. Even tried it without the screen. Still nothing. Interestingly the manual on / off button on the air con doesn't seem to be working either. The air con is still functioning fine but just unable to adjust anything or even turn it on or off. Doing so at the circuit breaker for now. Anything else I can try? Can pay someone to come and look at it of course but you know what a nightmare these things can turn into here.....from the guy not turning up after waiting all day, someone coming with no idea etc etc. Usually try and exhaust everything DIY first
  7. I wouldn't have thought a profession like helping in a restaurant, cooking etc would be allowed? I believe even if you can get a permit you are very limited in what you can do. Does anyone know what tasks you could actually perform helping your wife?
  8. This is interesting bet there would be a lot of guys interested in this. Explains why sometime I have seen a farang openly selling at a stall etc. I assume it has to be a marriage visa? I am on a parent of a Thai child visa. And getting the work permit doesn't mean you have to change your visa type or class same as say a teacher working here? Was talking to a mate before and he had one of these working in Phuket with his wife and said you are very limited as to what you can do on a marriage work permit. Maybe only go and get supplies etc? I wonder if you can cook in the restaurant....work front of house etc? What sort of tasks can you do?
  9. Verasu does look very good, sort of thing / brands I am talking about but they don't list a lot of stuff online, probably instore maybe better. At the moment looking for more utensil sort of stuff. Stuff I am talking about mostly professional / semi professional and often these aren't branded. There are a few BIG professional cookware online shops here and often they have what I need but they are (obviously) very orientated to Thai / Asian style cooking.
  10. No their stuff is not high end at all, maybe say high end supermarket quality compared to back home. I must say Central has come along 500% to what it was 8 years ago when I came here. Hard to specify brands really..... more semi professional / professional stuff. Not dissing any of the stores mentioned by the way. There just obviously isn't a big market for some of the stuff I am looking for. For eg looking for a potato masher at the moment. A particular style of one. Just been to Home pro, Central, Baan and Beyond, Big C. None of these shops had one of any description. And again unsurprisingly probably not much use for one here. But I am sure there would be some shops with better stuff in Bangkok, online perhaps where there is a bigger market aka all of Thailand. Ton of them on Lazada but all domestic junky looking things. Lazada really giving me the shet's lately, getting every other order cancelled (no stock) or just remains in "to pack" status, no communication or reply from the seller. I am no brand snob either by the way. I have a set of Zwilling knives I paid $1200 for back home and my chefs knife of preference is a 60 baht carbon steel thing I bought from DIY lol. It is so good I bought 5 of them and 3 years later still using the original one in our restaurant everyday
  11. Does anyone know any specialist / decent kitchenware type online suppliers in Thailand. Already aware of Lazada, Shoppee, Homepro, Baan Beyond, Central, Robinson etc. Looking for better quality specialized kitchenware, utensils etc....more of a western orientated store. needs to be online as I am up country
  12. As others said yes, and I do mind sharing. What you seem to have to do with Bkk bank is keep going to branches until you find one that is helpful. I was told by 2 branches they didnt have a foreign currency account. Then one who knew and did it immediately. Even K bank at one stage told me foreigners need to open an account with 500k plus, or the particular branch did.
  13. Thats what Bkk bank staff do as an excuse not to help you or not do something they dont understand. God forbid cant go ask someone or make a call. I have had online banking with them 8 years but also ran into the same problems with them until I found a branch with a decent contact. Having said that theyre online banking / apps unreliable, sometimes off the air for a day or more hence I recently moved all my bigger money to SCB. They are much more progressive and helpful. I always feel like the other bank somehow thinks they are doing you a favour holding onto your money, or in their minds THEIR money.
  14. It is about that, but really I was talking about local, basic staples. Could be a whole bunch of factors affecting imported goods one of them being the apparent huge hike in shipping costs and shortage of shipping space / containers
  15. Have to agree with you there. I have had the same rent for 5 years and it was cheap when I first got it. Rent here is way under parity with land values / repayments. Back home rent would be aprox equal to what bank loan repayments would be or up to 20% more. Probably one of the cheapest costs of living here. And it is still cheap to live here, but prices are going up and wages are not. That's never a good scenario for a country, particularly one needing to compete in the export / manufacturing sector. Probably will be good for expats though however things never usually pan out logically here....TIT
  16. I may be wrong but I didn't thin Pon Yang Kham is a company or place, it's a Thai term for French Thai beef and I think there are many suppliers in Nakhon Sawan. My Mrs uses beef in her restaurants and the few times she checked it was far more expensive than the Aussie beef we are getting in Makro, which isn't A grade admittedly but pretty damn good for the price particularly for beef mince. Anyway I will give her this number to try as I am sure that Harvey Beef in Makro isn't going to be available forever, not at current prices anyway. From memory there was an issue with their delivery as well, we would have had to pick it up from the bus station. Was a while ago so worth checking again. I have bought Aussie rib fillet for 300 to 500 baht and sometimes eye fillet even cheaper. The cheaper cuts you can mince still under 300 baht for a whole piece.
  17. Those Betagrow chops are excellent. They had the Betagrow select meat in Tesco before CP took over. Always more expensive but so nice and tender.
  18. Prices always go up and of course short supply and covid big factors but this started occurring about a year before Covid. One of the strengths of Thailand's economy has been its extremely low inflation. I imagine it needs to be this way with low income earners on the basic wage that never seems to increase. These people would be lucky to have 100-200 baht to spend on food a day. When you think about it, a low income workers wage around 8000-10000 a month. 200 baht a day for food is 6000 baht per month. Doesn't leave a lot for rent, fuel etc. No wonder they are so obsessed with money. And in this we must be talking about 60-80% of the population. In the first 4 or 5 years I lived here the basics were cheap and prices never seemed to change. If you wanted to eat imported food yes it was and always has been expensive, but the staples were cheap and consistent in price. I cook mostly myself and if I went and bought foreign food at a restaurant everyday it would be expensive, but the ingredients are not. As someone mentioned a bowl of noodle soup or plate of Thai food I think now is the same price as it would have been 8 years ago. But most of the ingredients are not. Electricity seemed to jump hugely last 2 years. The price per kw doesn't seem to suggest it but my bills sure do. Cost of fuel. With a disparity between inflation and wages, and the country must be hurting terribly now with this pandemic in every sense.... I imagine something has to give. I wonder when they discuss Western tourists as a small unimportant part of the pie I wonder if they take into account all of the black money going through the bars, sponsor money back to the villages.....guys indirectly buying vehicles, homes here. Must have left a huge hole in things and lets face it Chinese and Indians aren't considered big spenders
  19. If you really like your beef mince buy a full topside or outside (rump) and mince it yourself. I bought an amazing little mincer online for under 2000 baht from Central online, 2 year warranty. The mincers they use at Makro are awful for beef. Comes out chewy and stringy. Are you buying pre pack Aussie beef mince? Minced in Australia or by Makro themselves?
  20. This could only be one person lol. Hope you are doing ok bro
  21. He gets plenty of fresh stuff and bones, fresh stuff. Just want to give him so prepacked stuff sometimes. Likewise he used to eat the dry stuff but now turns his nose up at it little <deleted>. The stuff I am talking about is like dry food, but it is a little flexible and chewy
  22. I make my dog a lot of stews and soups, give him fresh bones etc but it is convenient to give him dry stuff sometimes. he really doesn't like the dry kibble stuff, even the premium one or when mixed with other stuff Back years ago I remember we had a dry dog food called good o's. Was dry as such but more of a chewy dry ring, not a hard kibble. Has anyone come across a product like that?
  23. Funny you mention about beef. I heard in Australia it was simply too expensive to buy last 6 months. We get Aussie beef here never been cheaper and its not old frozen stock either. As for serves yes 100%. Seems to be the norm here a manufacturer will make a product that is good and obviously sell well. Then they will start to deplete it somehow to increase profit and ends up a pale shadow of its former self. We were buying hot dogs here. Company had 100% pork and chicken. The pork were more expensive than the chicken by 20 baht. Next thing they were doing a pork and chicken blend, and the other chicken one. The price never dropped. Now they only do the 100% chicken one at the same price the premium pork one was 2 years ago, and pork prices haven't increased last 2 years.
  24. Just went to local Tesco little pack of celery 55 baht! Cabbage 125 baht. Eggs have gone up 40% last 2 years. I normally buy veges from my veg lady but she's MIA today and even she is putting her prices up. Pork seems to be holding but chicken has gone way up no prizes their for guessing that has something to do with CP monopolizing the market. Funnily I have found many imported foods decreased, particularly from Australia as they have been cut off from China and must have overstocks. I am talking general Thai groceries, veges....fruit has been cheap due to covid. That is all they need here is inflation
