Agree, maybe a village wedding and a party. I would weigh up the pro's and con's of formal marriage first. From what I know some positives some negatives. Certainly if you are considering building a property in her name or buying vehicles etc do it AFTER you marry. That way you will be entitled to half of what came into the relationship after legal marriage. If you buy all this stuff in her name BEFORE you are married it will be legally hers and she will be entitled to everything she had before the marriage (house, vehicles) and entitled to 50% of everything you acquired after the legal marriage. An acquaintance of mine learning that the hard way now. Another thing to consider, and maybe not be a financial consideration but should you wish to apply for the pension in at least Australia, know that your pension will be reduced on the basis you are married. Ridiculous really particularly if you marry a woman that will not contribute in anyway financially....but they deem as you are married you will be sharing expenses etc etc therefor the sum is reduced. Just food for thought.

First paragraph a fair description...but it works both ways. Poor Isaan people dont get millions of baht for a poor uneducated girl, particularly with kids, ex husband etc. 50k max in this circumstance if it were a village Thai brokerage unless the family had big land holdings. Family financial support is also meant to stop on marriage. It seems horrible putting a price on a woman and a marriage but that indeed is the culture here and their rules of the game. For a poor Isaan family to be asking for even 6 figures is ridiculous....well at least to a Thai who knows the deal it is ridiculous. In my book starts the relationship off on the wrong foot and demonstrates you are a gullible and easy mark from that day forward. Anyone who has ever negotiated a price on anything with a Thai should know to negotiate hard and don't give in too easy, even if you think a fair price. They go away thinking they could have gotten more and the games will start the next day...agreed price being increased. But hey, if you have deep pockets and you want to show the love you have for this girl it's 100% your choice.

I have found with Isaan people no matter what you give it is never enough. Always ends up in disappointment and self loathing. Yours!. If the girl has any kids, previous husband, non educated or older no sinsot payable anyway. She probably cant cook, drive, take care of a home, work or even hold a decent conversation...and probably has no intention of doing these things. Haven't even got started to how you are going to be the financial solution to everyone of your new extended families money issues of which will be relentless. So you in essence are buying yourself a block of cement to tie around your neck. Sinsot is not only about what you are bringing to the table. You are meant to be getting something for your money. The more education / earning potential she has, the more family land you stand to inherit...the higher the sinsot

Can she live in Thailand legally ?
Kenny202 replied to Delight's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Depends if the kids are born here or have Thai citizenship, but some sort of visa should be available. Working? I don't think so...In the same boat with the rest of us ie only way to work is create a company. Not sure where she's from or if she has any savings but I would say her best choice would be to go back home and work and possibly receive some welfare if available -
These ships are designed for battle and the most extreme of conditions. Boats don't just list and fill with water for no reason, even in the heaviest of seas. I'm guessing they left out the bit it ran aground or hit something. I mean how could you?

Speaking of outrageous claims, wasn't this your opening statement? My guess is he wanted something fairly perverted. I hope the gutless mongrel gets locked up. -

Did you get training in "short times" at the same time you were trained in self defense or was it hand to hand combat? My guess hand to something else. Let me guess...black op's? Special services or too many Chuck Norris movies? -

Well said. Too easy for women to make unfounded accusations whenever they want. You see it in the media everyday. Does a man saying he has been abused or assaulted by a woman carry the same weight as a woman making the same allegations? Not by half...and the reason is logic would suggest the man is stronger and capable of defending himself. Unfortunately not if he's expected to stand there like a fool and literally "take it on the chin" -

Any legal protection from getting fired
Kenny202 replied to karl2007's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You pick a fight with the boss and now running scared? Seen people like this all my working life. Usually people trying to get some leverage on the boss to cover their own lack of performance or ineptitude. You're not going to win this one. Keep your head down and look for another job ASAP. Try not to repeat your behavior in your next position -

To be honest, you sound like a typical office troublemaker. Either accept him as your Superviser or look for another job. It's not all about you -

I agree on the woman bashing thing but pretty wild guess? Could be but could be 1000 other things too. Got a few mates in Pattaya and always hear stories of dramas and trouble taking them back home. One particular girl apparently always asks for a tip or double what she agreed to and if she doesn't get it starts screaming. My friend said he started screaming too lol. She could have even done it to herself....it wouldn't be the first time, they are master manipulators. Guy could have been defending himself from flailing blows. Personally experienced that myself with a girl I was living with. Straight in the bathroom mirror to take the sympathy selfies of where her forearms connected to mine as I held my arms up to do nothing more than fend off the blows. Could be anything.. His fault, her fault...both of their fault....I wouldn't automatically blame the bloke though- 68 replies

Female entertainer? Adds a legitimate air about the whole transaction. Of course she was completely innocent, and just going about her "entertaining" Probably had a screaming fit or such in the blokes house -
Things have changed markedly since covid...I suspect people have gotten used to eating in. On the other hand new delivery business (Grab, Food panda etc) has recouped some of that but not all. I notice around my wife's restaurant a lot of the cheaper eateries going well, but not so much the more expensive food. That and it would seem generally people just don't have any money. With everything gone up at least 30% since a year or more ago inflation must be taking its toll on households, even with a decent income as they are usually in debt up to the eyeballs and little extra for luxuries. Long weekends every other week not helping either. I would hate to own a restaurant where there was a lot of prep and fresh food required everyday. So hit and miss some days you would be throwing most of it out. Have quite a few Thai friends and 4 of them last month, including my missus had suspected food poisoning. I guess maybe they aren't throwing out the fresh stuff at the end of the day and unfortunately food storage habits here not up to par

Aussie old age pension eligibilty question
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
I been away longer than 5 years. I believe if I returned to Australia doesn't matter how long you been away you can go straight on the pension if you are old enough, but got a feeling with Medicare...if you been away more than 2 or 5 years (I forget) there is a waiting period to get free medical again -

I heard its not so easy to get on general out of work benefits anymore, even at an older age. Used to be once you hit 50yo you didn't even have to look for a job. -
Aussie old age pension eligibilty question
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
You think they would give you the OAP at 65? Apparently they are quite flexible even heard of people getting exceptions to the 2 year rule for portability. I have a 6yo son so may be able to play that up. Like all govt departments wont know until you try and depends on who you get. What happens if you have a Thai wife here (I don't) who has never been to Australia and not a citizen etc? I am pretty sure she would be ineligible to get anything from the Aus govt. Do you still have your pension reduced as a married man even though your wife may have no income at all? I am pretty sure a guy I knew told me that was the case and he was sorry he got married here as he lost quite a few hundred dollars a month -

Just wanted to get one thing clear....to get portability do you... 1) need to live in Australia for 2 years prior? or 2) be on the OAP for 2 years prior? For eg: My pension age is 67.... What if I travelled back to Australia when I was 65yo, got a job and applied for the pension when I was 67, after the 2 years? Would it mean the OAP would be immediately portable? -

Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
So a single man living in Thailand after portability period would get 936 a fortnight right? That's 40k THB / month and quite a livable amount here. Or 936 + applic allowances living in Australia I have a young child 6yo Australian citizen, wonder if I would get something for him living in Thailand? I would guess not So what about a guy who marries a Thai woman. She wouldn't be eligible to get anything I am guessing, and he still gets the reduced married amount? I remember a friend of mine living here telling me he was sorry he got married as it effected his pension negatively. -

But I think even if you have been living overseas and are an Australian citizen and return with a fixed address you can get the pension straight away right? Only need to wait the 2 years for portability? What's the deal with Medicare? I been out of Australia, no residence or anything there. If I went back to live in Australia full time and got on the pension would I automatically get Medicare or is there a waiting period? -

Thai government schools.....is this for real?
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
Or maybe they were just like you, thinking they were in control until they realized they weren't. With your $350k US dollar home in her name you really think you are in the drivers seat? lol. Even if she doesn't have those ideas herself she will have plenty advising her otherwise. You are also deluding yourself on the age thing. It makes no difference here at all, and will rinse you just as quickly as an old guy....in fact I dare say most would prefer an old guy as the big pay day when old George kicks the tin is a lot closer. Also do not delude yourself she wouldn't leave the father of her child in a heart beat for any reason. It just doesn't come into their thinking. Anyway, keep hoping for the best, Espousing your manly qualities and dominance over your wife when you are just a sitting duck. Don't you know that's the game? And you yourself have walked right into the trap lol -
