  1. You wondered how the kayak may have sunk…. I alluded to the song “there’s a hole in my bucket”… You missed the small joke… probably because you’re not a native English speaker… no biggie, others understood the reference to the song… Are all former professional kayakers this humourless ???…. You may learn to draw a line between the dots in future !!
  2. Re read the first sentence of my post you’re replying to. I'm agreeing with you.... reading back I've worded my reply very poorly. Quote: [I’m not saying the beating was justified. Just avoidable.] Absolutely not *justified*... [just avoidable] - agreed, I'd go as far and assume he swore at them... (yes, perhaps very avoidable. Re-write: I agree with you, this was absolutely not Justified... I agree that there is a likelihood that this was perfectly avoidable by keeping quiet... Its even possible the Swiss guy swore which triggered the thugs... (conjecture of course). I’m not saying the beating was justified. Just avoidable. Can you confirm the Swiss man didn’t bring it on by running his mouth? I have witnessed that plenty of times by farangs in Thailand in various situations. A completely unprovoked attack. Never witnessed by me Absolutely not... I'd go as far as to make the assumption that he may have even swore at them and told them to 'get the f... of his car' (IF thats what happened - again just speculation of course) - that still does not warrant a 4-6 on 1 beating and smashing up the car. For this reaction to take place, these were the 'types' of thugs to be looking for an issue rather than simply react out of necessity.
  3. hmmm.. the invocation of "honour"... what an misplaced concept. Is there anything honourable about a pack of 4-6 thugs descending on a 66-year-old man like vultures? the notion of honour is ridiculous. It’s almost comical, the mental gymnastics some engage in to absolve these brutes of blame. As if their excessive, violent frenzy could somehow be justified by a perceived slight or an unkind word. Honour? Let’s call these guys what they are: thugs. Not misunderstood, not provoked, not righteous. just a mob of reckless degenerates who saw an opportunity to wreak beat an old man. Had they had any decency they would not have smashed a car and beaten an elderly man. Decency, honour - no... not at all - just thugs.
  4. He went to a restaurant and when he came out they were surrounding his car. How do you reckon a 66 year old man provokes between 4-6 guys to the point they beat him up and smash their car ? - Either they were upset because he parked in a spot they felt they had a claim over (parked in front of someone else is restaurant etc) and they wanted to teach him a lesson. - They demanded parking money from him (this has happened in Bangkok to a friend parking on the roadside, the friend refused to pay and returned to a car with flat tyres) - he refused to pay and the beat him ? - They were breaking in to his car and he caught them, they reacted ? - They were sat on his car and he wasn't happy about that, he reacted, they reacted worse ? -------- Whatever happend - they were looking for trouble..... it seems the guy was naive enough not to avoid giving any possible trigger to a group of thugs.
  5. That you MalcomB ???... Yet another Farang bashing alter-ego ???

  7. Further moronic hyperbolic exaggeration from Asean-now's model of ignorance.... "4-6 Thai thugs definitely held back".... No... Holding back would mean not smashing the car, not beating up a 66 year old man 4-6 on one....
  8. Nope - but I know others who have... in both Thailand and elsewhere. The common denominators in all situations is pure thuggery and weak law enforcement. This was a group attack on one 66 year old man - in what world could this possibly be justified ?
  9. Whatever the problem was, if he was polite and accommodating with the situation instead of sneering, they probably wouldn't have beat him up to this extent. As Jacko45k mentioned, my initial thought was that the Thai group might have been lounging on the Swiss man's car, prompting him to react. Perhaps he told them to "get off" with visible irritation, possibly even anger, and used language that escalated the situation. Of course, this is purely speculative. Something clearly provoked the Thai thugs to damage the car and attack the man. It’s also likely that the Swiss man’s actions or words triggered their reaction in the first place. Lounging on the car seems like a plausible scenario that could have sparked this confrontation. That said, the story lacks details, leaving the void to be filled with speculation. But, since this is a discussion forum, it’s natural to hypothesise within the realm of reasonable assumption. I believe the following points fall within those boundaries: - The Thai group may have been lounging on the car. - The Swiss man may have responded in strong manner.
  10. Oh... I believe its very likely the Thai guys were provoked by the Swiss guy. But, to condemn an entire nation based on the actions of a minuscule subset is not just moronic, it’s a masterpiece of ignorance and hyperbole. Your commentary reads less like an argument and display of intellectual bankruptcy. By all means, critique an individual for his possible lapse in judgment and 'potential' role in triggering a situation, though your phrasing suggests you're more interested in excusing the Thai's than analysing the outcome. Its noticeable that you never call out Thai attackers for their disproportionate actions, you remain stuck within a cognitive bubble that Thai's can do no wrong and your favouritism is as transparent as your inability to discern right from wrong rendering any shred of cognitive ability you might have utterly obsolete. Further inaccurate and moronic hyperbolae - rather a dumb attempt at a point score, so will be ignored.
  11. Your incessant reliance on flawed sweeping generalisations, drawn from the actions of an insignificant minority, exposes a gaping void where critical thought ought to reside. Were others to stoop to your level and generalise about AN posters based on your drivel, we’d all be branded as dim-witted cretins, a grim caricature of halfwits drowning mediocrity. Worse still, your unfounded confidence in these crude conclusions serves only to underline the abyss of your ignorance, and highlights the depths of what you so glaringly fail to comprehend. Agreed - start with drink drivers.
  12. I'd imagine anyone who has moved into a Condo does so because of a few reasons. 1) Price - they are cheaper than houses 2) They have better amenities than houses (pool / gym etc) 3) They often have a better view than houses 4) They are in a better more central location than available houses (comes down to price again). There are lots of news reports of one neighbour shooting another due to noise ? - neighbors in houses could be loud with dogs etc... The issue is really an anti-social smoker not caring where his smoke blows... But, he's in his home - so its a tricky one as there are no anti-smoking laws for Condo's. Moving is often the response to these issues, but one problem could be swapped for another - Looking for a pet and smoke free Condo may be the best option - clearly plenty of research needs to be done before the next move.

  14. I've seen plenty of videos of people focusing on their phones and walking into doors, ponds, etc., from all over the world. Focusing on a phone while walking around seems to be a scourge of the globally dimwitted. Some of these incidents are highly amusing, while others are far more serious and concerning. However, crossing the road while looking at a phone demonstrates a remarkable lack of self-preservation. ------ Our son has a phone (useful just in case we are late to pick him up from school, etc.), but the golden rule is that he can only use it while sitting.
  15. With emergency cases he will be receiving quick treatment in the UK - all costs will be covered by NHS. But with non emergency and elective cases the NHS can be horrendous. For example: My mother was in pain for well over a year waiting for a minor knee Op. Meanwhile, I'd encountered a similar injury and needed the same type of operation, after seeing the Dr here in Thailand I was operated on the next day (insurance cost about 300,000 baht).
  16. Yep.. I fly a lot, so I have most of my Music lists downloaded.
  17. For you, perhaps there isn't - there's no harm in just having the standard version... ... and, if adverts and not being able to 'skip' as often as you like etc becomes an issue, then you can upgrade then if you like.
  18. Yes... with Spotify Premium ... - No adverts. - Higher sounds quality (320 kbps / standard is 160 kbps) - Unlimited 'skips' ( normal typically allows 6 skips per hour ) - Can download up to 10,000 songs (useful when offline and travelling etc) AI such as chat GPT will be able to answer many such questions for you.. https://chatgpt.com/
  19. I think that depends... I've received outstanding treatment here from exceptional Doctors - but none of the operations were from life threatening injuries etc... That said, costs permitting, I would be more than happy to have 'any' treatment here and trust the excellence of the medical profession here though I do question the levels of liability IF mistakes are made. The only reason I'd want to travel back to the UK is if the treatment I needed was not available here or IF I could not afford it.
  20. Then I wonder where the OP sees them at very low prices. Yup - I thought that was a bit odd from the Op too.. A 24 year old Land Cruiser is still 600,000 baht. https://www.one2car.com/en/for-sale/toyota-land-cruiser-cygnus-northeastern-region-mueang-ubon-ratchathani/13143540?auc=true ... Thus, the 'low price' may be subjective...
  21. They were all imports and subject to high tax and thus expensive - given the Toyota branding I think people with that sort of money to be spending on a car would generally tend to go for the Mercedes ML and Lexus RX's... Thus: there are not many around, and those that are around are still considered expensive: i.e. a 2012 Prado is 1.5 Million baht which is a lot for a 13 year old car.
  22. I reckon you could fix that that with a straw, not a long one, but if its too long, cut it with an ax, ensuring said ax is sharpened with a wet stone... Forget about the bucket, you never needed it anyway !!...
  23. Don’t worry Gandtee got there ! (if you’re not a native English speaker the reference to the song about a hole may have passed you by).
  24. Low-life twit - it’s hope they throw the book at him, but I always hope they throw the book at any thief whatever nationality, culture of social bracket they are from (unless extenuating circumstances as per Jean Valjean sterling food etc through pure hunger). As per the tatt comments.- there are some worrying Victorian attitudes on this forum. Where are our favourite Brit bashers ?? - they ok ? posted recently ? - they’d usually be all over this like a cheap dress on a floozy…
  25. Henry, you might want to ask dear Liza...
