  1. What has anyone got to worry about transferring 25,000 baht into JPY with a 'Travel Card' vs at a Money Exchanger ??? IF you are travelling overseas, the government will know about it anyway !!!... I get the whole bigger picture concern of some about the commodification of personalised data - but you're really stretching it if you're concerned about a travel card....
  2. Yup... I watched the video again and just saw that... clipped the wall then panicked... Terrible driving... she clearly has no idea at all how to drive, which is quite frightening for anyone else on the road, particularly when imaging that there may be plenty of others like her - I wonder how she got her license (even though its incredibly simple to take the test). Its extremely fortunate that she (i.e. the pickup) didn't kill a couple of motorcyclists passing below....
  3. I think you are giving her far too much credit for awareness and car control... She panicked... hit the accelerator before managing to 'hit the correct brake' before going over herself....
  4. The surveillance isn't, either Surveillance ???... can you expand ?
  5. Yes... but the BiB in Pattaya don't exactly have the most honest image when it comes to targeting foreigners. Once they realise they can get away with it, they fill their boots with this level of extortion. That said, as the IDP is simple enough to obtain, I'd advise a visitor to get one, just to strip these thieves of the fuel they need to attempt to rip you off... they'll then have to move onto something else, riding while too pasty white... I even know of a guy who was charged because his number plate was too small (it was government standard, the BiB measured it and said it was 1mm too small and fined him on the spot - he paid instead of telling them to 'fet gucked' and issue a ticket instead).
  6. Thats my understanding too.... there are bilateral agreements in place where the Thai License is accepted in the UK and a UK license accepted in Thailand, along with other licenses with the language in English. It's also the reason why we can obtain a Thai Licence with a UK License without the need for an IDP.
  7. No worries... the 'TrueWallet' thing caught me out when I first tried to use PromptPay in 7-11.... Its all quite daft IMO... but, its easier than using cash...
  8. Chill out... another poster spat his dummy yesterday after receiving responses his ego didn't enjoy... There's no need to be so think skinned over a post a complete stranger makes... you'll still get your assistance, and just ingore the responses you don't like... Its just a forum... no need to get upset.
  9. Deleted after reading NoDisplayName's comment... That makes some sense... although a proper PITA.
  10. You already know the answer which is why you were polite enough to turn off the car when asked. When we park and wait at my Son's school - the guards come and ask us to turn off the car. Its hot etc so the 'want' to sit in the cool AC is understandable, however, as you already understand, if in a busy area you will subject others to your fumes.... ... being considerate means turning off your engine... Or as OMF mentions, park further away so that your running engine has no impact on anyone else nearby.
  11. Do they list the pricing so that you can see ? How do you know that you are not paying the 'foreigner price' for the same treatment a Thai would receive and billed less for ? It also happens in Private Hospitals... - Wife had a minor procedure and was going to be charged something like 50,000 baht on the insurance, then she highlighted that she was going to pay out of pocket, because her insurance covers inpatient care only.... the Bill dropped by 10,000 baht... ... The hospital accounting dept highlighted that the higher charge was for 'international insurance companies' !!!!
  12. The Op is talking through the orifice that understands the difference between fixed rate public transport where dual charging would be impossible... and area's where dual charging is prevalent... Try asking a TukTuk for the local rate... Try and get the Local rate at a national park... Try and get the local rate at Government Hospital... then you'll realise the the bolox you mention are stuck to your rose tinted glasses....
  13. Flawed argument... What you describe is based on 'residency'... Thus, with the overseas / UK examples you provide, any foreigner who is able to show the same documentation, i.e. residency is afforded the same discounts. Conversely, the Thai Dual pricing is based solely on nationality, even when a foreigner has a work-permit, residency etc.
  14. All good points....
  15. Can you talk us through what you did at 7 Eleven to scan using your bank app? no one else has ever done it before, only using truemoneywallet works Indeed... 7-11 will not permit a transaction through 'PromptPay' which is the payment from Bank to Bank (via Mobile Banking App), either through them scanning a QR code on your phone, or through you scanning the QR code on the Point of Sale Machine. MrJ2U must be getting mixed up between 7-11 and another convenience store such as Tops, Big-C Local, FamilyMart, Lawsons etc...
  16. Then you were silly to sign... you are kind of shafted now. In that statement, they should have also stated that the other party was travelling at speed, too close and undertaking. Also riding illegally without a helmet... was he checked for DUI ?... was his bike taxed ? did he have a license ? etc etc. Lots of questions to ask before agreeing to any settlement. The Police are taking the path of least resistance, and it unfortunately appears that this is you.
  17. Undertaking - illegal.
  18. Nope... you can push it as far as you want... it'll never go to court - the BiB are just trying it on. If however... it goes as far as you are willing to push it... you can fall back to where you are now (square one). A while ago now... I was in an accident whereby I was turning right and a following van tried to overtake me. The BiB initially blamed me, as they said I was the one making the turn... I argued the van was speeding, overtaking into an oncoming bus lane, and had cut the corner of the previous junction (its complex to explain)... Ultimately, I was polite, but stubborn, and said I was quite happy to see this escalate to higher levels... ... the BiB changed their mind... the accident was deemed 50/50.... (the reason I didn't want to accept fault was that the other part was faking injury and I wanted to ensure I avoided any compensation claims).
  19. Thats almost the same as saying... If you weren't there you wouldn't have had the accident. Its not irrelevant if the passing bike was undertaking - its illegal, its in the Road Traffic Act... you have permitted the police to interpret the laws and utilise them as they see fit... the Tourist Police lady may have been calm and polite, but she wasn't fair in proportioning blame to you.... The following motorcyclist is also complicit - if he wasn't riding illegally and passing to the left, the accident wouldn't have happend - and thats the key point you should be using.
  20. Thats the conclusion from one single aspect of the incident... ... The lazy BiB have 'picked the low hanging fruit' so to speak.... they have missed the point that the motorcycle should never have been under-taking the stopped moto-taxi and that he was riding too close (dangerously). Up to you if you want to pay compensation - but I'd be very stubborn in the same situation. Instead of dropping your bag, if you had slipped and fell, the following motorcyclist would have hit you. Based on your description the following motorcyclist was riding dangerously and illegally. If you have a Thai friend with any position of respect or authority - now is the time to ask for their assistance.
  21. In the Ops shoes, I'd stand firm and not accept anything. Op was getting off a moto-taxi to the left.... It appears as though another rider, was dangerously close and passing on the left which is illegal. IMO - the BiB know the Op might have money (as he's a foreigner) so they beleive this is the path of least resistance and they may get to earn something from the compensation. Where did you get this from ? - that the other bike was undertaking because he was 'coming into park' at speed...
  22. It would appear as though you have mistakenly been reported for committing a crime in France and a block had been placed on your passport, this block as since been removed and you can collect your passport. Its possibly because your name matches that of someone who was reported.
  23. That you Bob ????
  24. It seems like there could be some collusion to get some form of compensation from you... ... i.e. Pay for the damages and medical bills for the Injured party. As the incident was 100% his own fault (IMO)... it is not your responsibility to cover his damages. You dropped the bag... but that is almost moot - the accident was caused by the following riders actions (undertaking / too fast / too close).... he could have hit you as you got off the moto-taxi.
