  1. Good question and you are certainly correct it will open up a GIANT "can 'o wormz" I am sure the powerz-that-b here haven't even contemplated how the changes in the marriage laws between sexes will work immigration visa/extension wise right now it's; foreign male/thai female, foreigner banks 400K foreign female/thai male, foreigner banks nothing How the other permutations will parse out I guess that remains to be seen 🙂 It doesn't 'need' to be a can of worms... They could just 'open up' the same laws & requirements to all married couples that exist between Foreign Females married to Thai Males. That would be too easy, too giving... I can imagine that 'Anutin' and his cronies arguing.... "No way, we can't have these foreign males coming in a getting citizenship by marrying the a bit of strumpet from Soi 6"... So... my guess is no... Nothing will change in the Laws at all... Foreign Females marrying Thai Males continues to fit within the Thai Patriarchial agenda, nothing else does.
  2. There's potentially a legal a 'door opener' here... - Western Women Married to Thai Men have a faster track to Citizenship. - Western Men Married to Thai Women have a very difficult (sometimes impossible) track to Citizenship. - Could 'Western Men married to Thai Men' also have a fast track to citizenship ? - Could 'Western Women married to Thai Women' also have a fast track to citizenship ? Obviously the Government doesn't like to make things easy for anything other than the Thai Patriarchy, so I very much doubt it... but...
  3. A couple of other posters have also pointed out that their is not wording of any restriction on other license their license. I suspect the DLT have realised the flaw in that wording and it no longer exists in the newer licenses... I'll find out when I renew mine again in a couple of years. What does strike me as extremely odd is that some DLT's (i.e. Chonburi) will not accept the Yellow House Book as proof of address when applying / renewing a licence.
  4. To be fair - it was 2020 when I last attempted to get hold of quality tomatoes to make the base sauce for a butter chicken.... I tried villa and gourmet markets, but even visibly the offering was poor. I hardly do any shopping anyway - Wife gets most of the groceries from Tops... Its not a big issue for me, but its just something I've noticed... the Tomatoes here are not really very good (IMO of course). Neither are the strawberries etc.... conversely, mangoes and pineapples are amazing !
  5. Its actually a valid question... I've struggled to find decent tomatoes here.... Thats not the 'Thai-bash' you seem to imply and defend against, its just an observation - sometimes there's nothing more to it than that.
  6. The Honda Jazz didn't appear to be speeding or travelling recklessly quick - however, it was clearly too close to the left hand-side of the road. Given the position of the wheels on the Jazz it looks like a combination of impact and the 'wheel walking' up the side of the silver car which cause the Jazz to flip so easily. My Wife managed the same thing in an A-Class Merc at less than 10kmh... she'd just slowly turned into a very narrow soi and had to swerve to avoid a motorcycle, clipping another vehicle and 'tipping her car on its side'... we could see the 'tyre marks' on the side of the car she'd clipped.
  7. Where... speed is somewhat irrelevant, as much fun as an EV may be (torque)... But.. back to where ?.... in Bangkok, where do you get your BYD serviced each year (or whatever)... I see a lot of BYD on the road and wonder if any existing service centres are not going to be completely overwhelmed in a few months... Thus: honest question - Is your BYD in Chiang Rai (assumption from your username) easy to get serviced ?
  8. There is an element of this which concerns me... I'm not so sure we (the global community) have fully evaluated the 'Battery' conundrum, even with future development, vs carbon capture and hydrogen tech... I for one am not convinced batteries are the way forwards - though I do like the torque of an EV.
  9. You have access to a solution - but you are so intent on taking your approach to resolution that you are blind to Grab's 'non-human' approach, however flawed that may be.....
  10. I don't see how resolving the issue of the 300 baht is related to my version of the app totally BLOCKING getting help via live chat, phone, or normal form complaints like missed items. I see no form to complain about the flippin' software. The App BLOCKED you from getting 'Live Help' ??.... YOUR account was SINGLED out and BLOCKED from receiving asstance ??... Sorry JT - calling BS on that. (loving the use of capitals to dramatise this whole issue !!)... Its a glitch - relax.... pay the double charge, claim back the double payment.... (its happend to me with a Grab Ride - which may or may not be exactly the same but I expect the resolution to be similar)...
  11. No... thats not a solution. Thats a work around... Jing has already explained why he prefers digital payment and that makes perfect sense.
  12. Agreed - work on resolving an issue that you can feel confident is not going to be a regular recurrence.
  13. Not at all. Would you marry someone you don't trust? Did your wife ask for birth certificates and documentation to verify your heritage and family relationships? Did you feel the need to request basic information or proof of genetic and family ties from your (future) Wife's parents and siblings?
  14. You have 'tail wagged the dog' in your deconstruction of the issue... how many Thai ID's have you checked to confirm your partner is a true sibling of her 'brother' ? (*Note below). I'm not suggesting you are wrong - but your base point of criticism is perhaps flawed.... Would this ever happen in Europe?... how many ID cards in Europe do you check when dating someone ? *My Brother in Law is without doubt a sibling (also loads of family photos) but I've never checked his ID, the Brother in Law of a close friend of my is also a 'dead ringer for his sister' - in both mentioned examples, sibling-ship is obvious... That said, I also have a close Thai male friend who's brother is neither similar in features or character.
  15. Blaming the Thai Why are you blaming the Thai, he looked innocent - See what I did there ??... Taking 'only' part of the comment to suit an agenda.... BTW: I agree with you MalcomB - the Thai is not at fault here BTW - but I wanted to highlight how your misquote destroys context, as did mine.
  16. After watching the video - I'm in agreement... (thx to KhunBENQ for sourcing the vid - a lot of potential debate without that)... I'd initially thought speed may be involved to flip a car, but not so, seems the 'flip' was more to do with 'wheel climb' rather than flipping from the impact... So... Thai fella clearly not speeding, but he was rather close to the left side, far closer than I'd be comfortable driving - I been in plenty of vehicles which are passing too close (left side) to other vehicles and I cringe each time imagining someone swinging the door open.... The American pulled out without using his mirrors - 100% the Americans fault, no matter how close the Thai was when passing him.
  17. No, I'm suggesting the article had no mention of the Americans version... thats all....
  18. Are you saying he is lying? No... Read again, try harder. Are you suggesting the Thai Gentleman is not lying ? .. See what I did there ? (Rhetorical - given your recent posting history I don't expect you have).
  19. Not "disconnected" enough to be a full IATA member, though. Could be that the number of people who recognise scat as an activity is very restricted, to the extent of being insignificant to normal air travellers but hilarious to AN members by which, of course, all standards are measured! Trust you to take the pish take out of the name 'scat' so very seriously and literally...
  20. Sounds a bit of a s#!t airline if you ask me...
  21. .... OK... and according to Mr. Dhedhi ??? we're only getting the Thai fella's story, not the Americans ?
  22. Indeed... The name of this airline (SCAT) raises concerns about how disconnected its owners are from basic realities which could raise concerns as to how disconnected its owners are from international standards....
  23. I'm not sure about that Richard. Ants, like every other creature, need food. They won't stay anywhere for long if there's no food source. They will however, travel a relatively long distace for that food. If I don't keep my work surfaces absolutely spotless and seal all sources of food, I get plagued with the damn things. Sometimes you have to look around to find their food source - I have to keep my sugar in a sealed plastic box because ants can get into my normal sugar jar. Its amazing how they get into some things. I also have to shake the crumbs out of my toaster after every use. I also find that the type of surface cleaner used helps get rid of them faster. I can't find the one I want so I make my own - 70% water and 30% nearest thing I can find to bleach in (Thailand). It obviously leaves some residue behind that the ants don't like because they rarely come back after I've cleaned with that. The ants may have been living in your router but they will have been eating somewhere. It's happened to me twice... (once in the UK too)... An electrical appliance attracted Ants - they weren't 'living' in there, they'd died in there... ... there were no 'trails' to potential food sources, crumbs etc. I have read theories that certain ants, such as 'crazy ants' are attracted to certain electromagnetic frequencies - i.e. the frequencies of some specific electrical items interfere with their navigation and attract the ants. The additional possibility is that a 'scout ant' entered the electrical item, got fried, other ants followed the scent trail they leave behind when navigating and too got fried.
  24. This is a common misconception: The statment on the back of the Pink ID card: "The person named on the card is prohibited from leaving the card issuing area. Except for those who have alien identification card or person who has received written permission" What this means is anyone without 'alien identification' cannot leave the area of issue (Amphur area)... Most people have a Passport and this is considered 'Alien Identification' and superseedes the Pink ID card (and geographical restrictions on the validity of that card). On the back of the Thai Driving Licence itself (IF obtained with Yellow Book & Pink ID) the restrictions state: "in the case of driving outside of the area, use it together with permission to leave the area" The permission to leave the area is your Passport.
  25. I think its obviously an 'app glitch'.... and as with a lot of 'online' services, getting past the 'chat-bot' phase can frustrating experience especially if the 'glitch' is a little more 'outside the lines' than the regular issues. In this case the Jing had already paid (digital payment), but the app was also requesting a second (same) payment the next day when he wished to use the Grab App again. He's made a second payment to get past that step - now all he has to due is submit a 'dual payment' claim and grab will identify and resolve the issue. ... the rest is just Jing being a bit of a drama queen thats all - its a readily resolvable issue.
