Female police save woman from drunk foreigner during Songkran
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
That's a puzzler... The intervention was 2 days later? Obviously the standard of reporting leaves a lot to be desired... The incident occurred around 11.50pm, two days before the intervention was reported, and could have escalated had it not been for the prompt and decisive action of the female crowd control police officers stationed nearby. -
Did you know this about 7-Eleven (Thailand)?
richard_smith237 replied to george's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Curious perspective. Given that in the 3 southern provinces Muslims make up over 80% of the population, then who's the one not integrating? In utilising multisyllabic words one would have assumed you have a better reading comprehension than exhibited.... -
I think you have a fair point..... But I wouldn't let it bother me, especially for a few weeks.... Any tickets we have ever had (and we've had plenty of them) include a photo, location, date, time, speed.... The fines get sent to my Wife's parents house for some reason... even though the car itself all of her ID and records are at our house (for the last 5 years at least).... so it's possible the fine was sent elsewhere (and older registered address perhaps) - its also possible the fine was lost in the post. I'm not sure how you can defend yourself...... Though, as the DLT system has registered the offence they should be able to reissue the ticket. In the same situation I think its fare to 'give a little push-back'.... calm and polite, and ask for a senior official in the DLT to explain why they can't issue a ticket... All of that said: the speeding ticket is probably about 500 baht - so hardly worth the hassle... I wouldn't bother arguing the toss if it means I can't get taxed etc.... as thats more hassle than paying the ticket and I very much doubt there is any scam going on.... ----------- A number of years back I was pulled over at the traffic lights by the BiB (so was the car in front), I was told I had been speeding... But, they couldn't tell me what speed I was travelling at.... They just told me a manned speed camera down the road had clocked me and radioed it up to the check-point. Two different officers gave me different speed limits for the road (95 and 90 kmh)... I was stubborn but polite and after a few mins the BiB said, ok... go on but drive safely.... The reality was that I had been speeding (pretty much every car on the road was), so I don't think it was a scam... I just don't think they considered the burden of proof...

Phuket police arrest suspect in burglary of foreign-owned villa

Hmmm..... a Bad Thai / Innocent foreigner story..... ... Interesting that The Thaiger never picked this one up given its recently adjusted rhetoric which focuses on anything negative a foreigner does. -

I'm starting to think all of these bad foreigner Thaiger articles are written by GOAT..... & before someone chips in, thats not to defend the actions of any person male or female, Foreign or Thai from imposing themselves on anyone else... so Props to the Police for dealing with this...- 83 replies

Thats one the things I like about Thailand - the fact that in most areas (outside of the South) the Muslims have are integrated and they don't impose their beliefs on everyone in the immediate vicinity and community within which they reside.... Booze can still be bought in shops in area's of a higher muslim populations (also the mosques are not disturbingly loud). -
That doesn't work if you are overseas.... An online transfer takes a couple of minutes... going to the bank and getting a cashiers check takes significantly longer... and doing so a few times per month would get tiresome extremely quickly - hence, the onset of online and mBanking in the first place... & the funds are available / transfered instantly.
-
I disagree.... personal opinion of course..... I find it way too hot here... a dehumidified 25 deg C would be perfect... I find it even more silly to complain about the heat here though - I've known how hot it is here for over 20 years....

Phuket’s seven days safety campaign shows zero fatalities
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Exactly.... However... Even the numbers below look highly suspicious when the national average over the year is about 68 per day (based on WHO estimations in 2020 was 22,428 road deaths per year (and that was a Covid year) https://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/thailand-road-traffic-accidents So... even the below mentioned number (linked) is less than than the normal daily average... (which would otherwise fall at 245 over 4 days). Thus: Are the reports suggesting the the roads over the 7 deadly days of Songkran are 35% safer ???? As you mentioned Robert - the source and accuracy of the information is highly questionable. -
Isn't that equally as applicable to the Op itself as it is the responses outlining the ridiculousness of his post ?
-
What would you expect ??? ... you posted a load of utter rubbish.... Do you go to the beach and complain that the sand is too sandy and sea too salty ???? If your pool really is that bad - can't you move ? In a previous condo we had a pool that was mostly in the shade - it was too cool to enjoy swimming in around December time. But... If the pool is shallow, has a large surface area and is always in the sun - then of course, the water is going to be warm.
-
A bit silly all this..... really.... "the lady doth protest too much, methinks" 🙃 Pool too hot to swim in ??... What are you doing in the pool ? training for a Triathlon ? The ambient air temperature is plenty cool enough to allow cooling after a 'dip' in the pool, although towards the end of the day it is somewhat similar to getting into a lukewarm bath - still very enjoyable. Chemicals ??... they have to keep up with the Chemicals, as in a Chlorinated pool the sun burns off the Chlorine quickly. If you think they are over dosing the chemicals its easy enough to test yourself, but I think you are just looking for reason to have a moan. If it were so toxic you'd see others who use the pool with skin issues... Don't feel safe driving ??? - quite an amusing snowflakey comment... Your paranoia [that its an accident is always going to be the farangs fault, even if not] is nothing other than paranoia, clearly a fresh arrival and someone who's had little exposure other than the old timer who spreads these ridiculous myths trying to sound authoritative - Spoiler alert: that old timer was never in the special forces, either !!!... As far as Air-con use: Well, thats normal for most of the year here... give a couple of weeks in the mornings when the 'cool spell' hits... Your post seems to be nothing other than someone seeking out and clinging onto any negative, rather that basing your outlook in any sensible reality.

A very young looking Gen-X'er perhaps ???? GenZ (someone born between 1997-2012) are very late to that 'boycott Nestle' party following the unethical promotion of baby formula in developing nations in lieu of mothers relying on breast milk to feed their children in the early 70's... -

BS. Never in nearly 20 years have I had stomach problems in Thailand. You mean, it never happened to you, so it does not happen ??? Years ago a visiting friend took a bucket of fetid drain water straight in the face (while we were on a TukTuk) - she was hideously unwell for days afterwards.... -
Phuket to Boost Maritime Facilities for Increased Yacht Traffic

Are they also going to place an arena at the same area so all the Taxi Mafia, SongTaews and Mini-Vans drivers can fight the tourists who become upset at the ripoff fares ???? -
Its widely known that the Airline can be held accountable by Immigration for return travel IF a foreigner is refused entry.... Thus, it is in their [the airlines] interests to check.... This is why the Op was surprised at the absence of airline oversight regarding his documentation. This is also why its fairly common for the staff at manned-airline-check-in counters to request to see an onward ticket or existing visa.
