But, in 'taking each thread as it comes' this thread reads somewhat of a 'cry for help' although perhaps bob himself would not admit that. As much ribbing as he [bob] receives, a lot of it from myself in other threads, he's still part of the forum community - he is perhaps in need of some help. If I were him, I'd be taking the advice to move to a better area such as Rawai in Phuket, Khon Kaen, Chaing Mai etc... etc... plenty of area's, pretty much every area of Thailand is better than central Pattaya (and central Patong) from the perspective of how people are treated.

And when going into such area's the Thai's there are not representative of Thai's on a whole. They are representative of Thai's whose general goal is to extract as much money as possible from tourists and anyone else in the area. Other Thai's in such area's also experience less than favourable encounters. Just like the taxi drivers who are parked on the road in such areas of high tourist footfall, encounters are generally less than 'neutral' for both Thai's and foreigners (refusal to use meter, relatively exorbitant rates etc). Perhaps for these reasons its better to live outside of a 'tourists hot-spot' and only visit the areas of high tourist footfall when the need arises. Also, negative experiences would be much more common in central Pattaya, Patong, Nana etc compared to area's of Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and more residential areas of central Bangkok and even residential area's of Pattaya and area's of Phuket such as Rawai and Nai Harn etc. As the saying goes... 'sleep with dogs wake up with fleas'... bob, this phrase is perhaps relevant to your encounters.

This is perhaps the issue... You allow the negative encounters to slowly eat away at you. But, it is also possible you are encountering more negative encounters than many of us face, this could be for multiple reasons such as... - Location - Immediate environment - Attitude - Ego Based on your posts, I wonder if much of your negativity is not 'location based'... i.e. you are in an area where Thai's are generally jaded towards foreigners - specifically, your encounters are far from positive because you live in central Pattaya. In Bangkok, when I am in an area of 'high tourist footfall' I have far more non-positive experiences than I do in area's that are just a few blocks away. Outside of a the areas of high tourist footfall, the vast majority of my encounters are either neutral or positive. Additionally, if I'm having a bad day, I may have fewer positive encounters, simply because I look grumpy (i.e. my attitude is negative). OR, If I approach a neutral situation with a degree of superiority a person will pick up on this and the quality of my encounter will deteriorate.

Fair enough bob... That would get up my nose, for about 5 seconds before forgetting it. But... to suggest that this simple encounter can 'turn your whole world black' is seriously over egging it, or, if such a simple encounter really does upset you to such a degree that your 'world turns black' and it ruins your morning / day etc... then you are in need of some psychological assistance. That said, short changing is not uncommon here... But so is 'over-changing' (returning too much change).. I've encountered both, however, as most payments are digital these days either incidence is now extremely rare. BUT.. IF it does happen, I point it out and move on... thats it, its the same with many things here. A taxi driver or someone I do not know is dismissive or impolite, do I care ?... hardly... additionally, any negative encountered is by far outweighed by neutral and positive encounters. Most of the situations I've encountered here I've also encountered in the presence of other Thai's or I've experienced other Thai's encountering similar negative situations.... It's obvious that when such occurs its down to the individual, not some pattern of society.

Many foreigners seem to prefer the LBFM... because they know they are not in the market for anything other than the poor socio-economically disparaged female in search of financial security. Those westerners would struggle to meet females of higher socio-economic and financially independent means... Of course, its down to individual tastes, but I wonder how much of that 'taste' is actually down to the 'suitor' pulling the wool over their own eyes and convincing themselves that this is their choice because on a subconscious level they know they cannot get anything else.

The are just other people who are nationals of a country in which many of us reside as foreigners or visit as tourists. This idea that we are 'guests' and should be treated as such is utterly mindless. As in an nation, residents generally treat each other with an equal indifference, there is no reason we should be afforded anything other than this - We (as foreigners here) are generally treated by Thai's exactly as they treat others who are outside of their primary circles.

Exactly this... It's of no surprise at all after reading bob smiths posting history that he is treated with a level disregard many of us would object to. Of course, the fundamentally flawed measure of bob's posts are in his projection that everyone else is treated as poorly as he is. Its extremely clear, so long as those 'currently' at the trough remain at the trough then all will be happy... Why not?... you prefer the bedroom ? We have two kitchens.... the larger of the two is somewhat more 'utility based' and houses the drier, washing machine oven etc... Some Condo's don't have the 'space' luxury having a utility room, which is what I think you mean. OMF is renovating his condo, thus I doubt it has the 'extra' room you would consider.

Indeed.... which is why I use it very sparingly... (i.e. suffering with a Sporting injury and needing a decent nights sleep) and never to rely on it two nights in a row etc... ... I understand why these are 'prescription drugs' because of the issues they could cause if one is incapable of being disciplined with themselves. As far as melatonin is concerned - its has a similar effect to Hot Chocolate (on me) which isn't much as far as aiding sleep is concerned. The issue of course with the prescription medication is that it aids sleep so well, one can sleep for 12 hours which doesn't really help much the following evening. Hence care needs to be taken by not becoming reliant on it. I also use such medication on long lights if I want to sleep which helps with travel, but again, care has to be taken not to be come habitually dependent. Once usual patterns are in place, I have little issue with sleeping so have no further requirement for such medication, but find a use for them while also quite aware of the possible risk.

We have washing machine & separate drier… about 1cm around does trick, the machines these days are generally well balanced & don’t jig around ver much at all… just the high frequency vibration on fast spin - 1cm seems to cover that.

I’ve got some Clonazapam, Lorazapam & a something ‘ine’…. Had a sorting injury last year & founded sleeping difficult… MiL (now AKA my dealer !) hooked me with the above mentioned stash… it helped. I’ve never suffered decency issued before but can see how attractive popping a pill for good nights sleep is and can see how that could be habit forming. The Dr’s seem to throw this stuff at patients… so, perhaps worth a visit to a clinic if you can’t find anything decent…. But, as I’m sure the reactions to this post will mention, be very careful.
