Can't say I have. My Thai family and their friends have always been very welcoming and tried to communicate with me. (Even if only hand gestures, like food, drink, sleep, follow me etc in the early days) Over time I have got get better at speaking Thai and they now complain that they can't gossip about me anymore..... 

Are you sure they are talking about you? If they are taking the piss, then it's time to stop going and perhaps re-evaluate your relationship if your wife is doing it too.

Remember face is very important here and if she isn't giving you face, especially in front of her family and friends, then time to move on. After all there are plenty more out there.

Your story is heartbreaking. You would have thought that there would be some kind of compassionate or medical grounds that would allow for her to stay. Especially since the Thai's have so much respect for their elders! Afterall, it's not like she is a burden to the state. Good luck with the future, I hope life is easier for Mom and you, once she is in the Philippines.

Religion is a form of control, it also gives some people stature and wealth. Worst of all it makes people think they are better than anything else on this planet, which is why they are happy to kill / destroy other creatures that co-inhabit the planet without a second thought.

Not to mention of course the millions of people that have been killed, murdered, raped, torchered, disfigured etc in God's /  Allah's or whatever you want to call the invisible persons name.

Unless the drugs are restricted to hospital issue, then get a prescription and buy them from a pharmacy. Hospitals mark up drugs far too much. Even acknowledging that they are a business and in business to make money.

Looks like the fire was in the ducting. I've seen HVAC ducting connected to Kitchen extractor ducting here in LoS. Meaning it could have been full of fat and oil. So I wonder if that was the fuel?
