  1. and, I'll third that. Went by there a number of times, and everything looked good, then I was informed it was Chang or nothing (maybe Large Heinekens for 115), and went right back to the Dayli. The quality of the Chang almost makes me hesitant to buy Singha which is pretty consistent, but not the best to do by the threes or fours.

  2. I agree with Zeichen......if you want to make 60K at a school, where the parents are shelling out 600K per year...Prem in Chiang Mai is hiring, and they want the B Ed., too. I think it is likely that Lanna International is paying less than that...Some of the best, steadiest, most reliable teachers that I have seen here, often find themselves out of work for simply staying too long. In a place where style over substance is the rule of the day; they are easily expendable.

  3. Big T opposite Oxide in Santithaam, 4 large Tigers for 200 baht. Ice 40 baht per bucket.

That's a good promotion. How's the food and pretties?

Pretties are good, promo is now 3 for 150 Tiger yai....similar coldness issues....seen large cockroaches crawling on the floor....At 19:00, they won't have a cold one in the house...BTW, Dayli no longer has any liquor and neither place allows smoking...always seem to be a few in the group have to have one or the other..and They now have the 630 ml Singhas at Dayli...likely a promo on them, too. They were loading the cooler from the front with 26 January born on dates, at about 21:00 last night...seems like an odd time to load the cooler with warm ones...but at least they are fresh. Of course, the coldness problem will go from bad to worse in a few weeks, a the heat intensifies. Kind of reminds me of the home construction horror stories on here (all 3000 of them), you really have to keep your guard up, or they will do something that a person with any knowledge at all, wouldn't do. Both places could be two of the best beer garden venues in the North. I was with a friend from Hua Hin, and he had been to Dayli before, and it was his idea to return. Money wasn't a big factor, he, too, had gotten very bad vibes on LK, and just didn't see any point in it....as he has outcall service in HH at a great price. I did take him to Santitham for the first time, and he was fascinated by it, from a real estate view point.

  4. 1 to 2 percent of Americans live overseas as permanent residents. This equals 3 - 6 million people. Most are working or hold dual citizenship. The retirees in many countries huddle together in the suburbs of large cities. (Oaxaca, comes to mind.)

My American friends who have stayed in Thailand all did so for the same reason…Healthcare. They would have had a hard time moving back to the states and getting a job in their late 50’s. Most would have been forced to pay out of pocket for health insurance…1,000 dollars per month with a 10,000 dollar deductable.

A friend claims 42K per year income, and pays Kaiser 170 per month with a 5000 USD deductible, age 55. Now, they can't nail you for pre-existing conditions..so people, who never made claims are getting screwed. A small egment of low income earners may be better off under the new regime, but families have much higher deductibles and the healthy are paying more...and more employers are only covering the employee. Oh, and the insurance companies are getting hurt bad.

  5. Yeah that was it. Went there a few times. Food not so outstanding, but the staff was great.

A few promo girls can make a favorable impression, however many are employed by an agency, and don't work for that particular bar. They also had problems with coldness, but if they weren't busy they would bring you cold ones, but like another poster stated, they wouldn't hesitate to plop three opened warm ones on your table

  6. I estimate Dayli to be on 500 wah, but Blar Blar is bigger and accessible from two sois. Both, could easily be upcoming condo projects. Palm Springs seemed to sell fast...I don't know all the dirty details, but they did manage some price increases before construction was complete,,fairly average buildings, many units with obstructed views....that is where a lot of condo buyers want to be....all this while many experts, here, were calling for price declines of varying levels. Is Blar Blar going to reopen near the lion statue, behind Nimman, as reported?

  7. Now, American here and I don't wish to socialize with other Americans. Why? Because I'm here now, not in America. Also don't like talking about what i used "to do" back there etc for the same reasons.

Excellent, we look forward to your total silence.

    ~o:37;

Apparently, it is more popular for some to talk about what others used to do back home.

  8. You know we like Dayli always have

They have as you mentioned great promos & the food is quite good.

But there is one odd (or not) thing there & it is this...

Try to get a unopened beer

    Will not happen

They will either bring 3 opened bottles to your table or if you request they not open 3 they will just bring one,.

Question them about it & they will always have an excuse...They only open at bar or better this way as to be cold etc.

Yet they would have no problem bringing the three opened & letting them sit if you had not said something

This strikes me as odd how about you?

it's easier to supervise at the bar,,,staff changes....20 thb used to get me one at a time..freezing cold...they even rotated through a big sub-zero freezer, which is now gone....just deduct ice from tip..maybe they will remember. Perhaps, if you could speak Thai like a four year old?????

  9. Heineken, 3 for 229, Tiger 3 for 210.....they've replaced the old bar-stools. Employees have faces in smartphones, but just snap your fingers at them or shoot a bottle cap......lean on them about the beer temp to avoid warm ones or a bad hangover. Good value for Nimman (soi 11). 12 years, still ticking.

  10. I find the Americans to be the most sociable. When an American meets another American in Chiang Mai they instantly seem to click, discussing home towns and where they`ve lived in the States.

Usually at the top of their voices.

Which is why you can't hear the Brits, Aussies, etc. doing it.

Kind of strange to stereotype people from a nation of 330 million people, that is 65 times larger than England. The US Expat population does tend to be California centric, which also has the largest Thai influence, and also shares the Pacific Rim. Californians have enjoyed great weather and quality food all their lives, and a technology sector that is larger than OZ and England's put together. They are known for being laid back and somewhat friendly, but it is a very big State. The Brits seem to be more downbeat and dreary, more like the Jerseyites or New Englanders, who speak with a hideous accent, and tend to complain about everything,, no matter how trivial, always pretending to be victims of some grand conspiracy against them, or unwilling participants in a massive government program/racket. Good and bad people everywhere, and you will also notice that a lot of working age people from the States, who are living here on disability payments for things like addiction, back pain, anxiety also come from California, and are often best avoided.

I've spent a considerable amount of time around Californians, and there's one thing that I can say for certain: 99.9% of them would almost certainly be able to divide 318.9 million (the estimated population of the U.S.A. as of early 2015...) by 64.1 million (the most recent estimate of the population of England...), and come up with a number considerably shy of sixty five.

I'm not sure whether I should attribute that to the fact that they've enjoyed "great weather and quality food all their lives" or to the fact that they've been largely spared exposure to the ass clowns who masquerade as "maffs" instructors in the employ of the rather spectacularly failed state to their immediate east.

I've also spent some time among the "downbeat and dreary" Brits you refer to, and here's my shorthand takeaway: Fools will be suffered only as long as there's a profit to be extracted from their foolishness. Serial fools such as yourself will be suffered not at all.

    Cheers/

    LT

    .

It appears the inbreds don't know the difference between "larger" and "more." "larger" must be politically incorrect in the UK, after all it sure can't mean taller, with a family tree looking more like a hedge. Many are also too ashamed to state, where they have lived. 318.9 million? That would be the number, who are less of -ick than yourself.

  12. If the school year is over, and you've gotten paid for the month; just bail.I wouldn't be concerned with using them as a reference. The Thais don't seem to answer emails. If another school needs you, all they need to know is you lasted the whole school year.
