nope, he has a legitimate company, and has been using the house as a vacation rental.
-
A friend told me he is paying taxes of 18,000 thb per year on a company house worth 8 million in Hua Hin. He also said it was being contested in court, as it seemed to be a tax only levied on farang.

Shall we have a contest to see who can identify her TVF name?

I have kind of the same situation, and I am being extra cautious. I am getting a one entry tourist visa good for 60 days. I arrive Bangkok on May 17, 2016 from Seattle with a USA Passport. I have a return to Seattle booked on August 10. I do have a three day trip booked on July 13-16 to Ho Chi Min City. In my understanding, I will be allowed entry back into thailand on July 16 from Ho Chi Min City on a "visa-less" entry good for 30 days on my USA passport. I should have no problem with the airline because even though my return ticket is more than 60 days from my entry into Thailand, I do have a confirmed ticket out of the country and back.
Does anyone see any problem here?
Merwan
No problem.
agreed, no problem.

I walked 500,000 thb to the bank next door to get 1% more interest, but also save 20 thb on a check and three days for it to clear. Marriage extensions can be peculiar, that's why many still do the retired method; it's more straightforward.

you can get a one year visa for teaching, too, but once you quit or they fire you; you have to leave the country, within 7 days, I believe, so that is why I doubt you can stay 90 days, if your class ends in 28.
Would you care to discuss the CMU LI Volunteer Visa/ED Visa scandal of 2010?
-
The schools misrepresenting the truth, makes it even more confusing. Imagine the abuses if all you needed to do, to stay long term was "volunteer"?
The school has offered him a letter to obtain a 90-day non-immigrant ED visa to cover the training course. What have they misrepresented?
It's normal practice in Thailand to volunteer without a work permit. It's also normal practice to teach until the work permit comes through. Both are technically illegal, but it's very common.
I was talking about the TEFL Schools in general, but it looks like in this specific case, they didn't mention to him/her that it will require a trip to Vientiane for the ED visa, they will be working illegally without a WP, and another Visa will require another trip to Vientiane. Staying for three months on an ED visa, for a 30 day class is probably illegal, too. People working/volunteering illegally only makes it worse for those, who want to be legitimate.

You should enter and depart Malaysia. Otherwise your out and back is not legit because you have no proof you entered another country.Question, if just doing a KL 30 day turnaround (fly in, fly back to Thailand, new 30 day stamp) on arrival KL do you have to clear immigration in KL or can you use just the transit exit?
Not correct. You only have to prove you left Thailand (proof is your exit stamp). I live in Singapore and never get my passport stamped. There is no way Thai Immigration can see that I have "entered a new country", even though I have.
I've seen them deny people at Maesai, who never paid the 500 thb and entered Myanmar.

They let me do EMS return, but I had to use stamps, then they put the EMS tracking number on it. It made it back in one day, and my signature was required, but that tracking number never made it into the system.

always such a surprise to see these types of panic posts with 2 other posts. He never did say what "a lot" of money was. The department of Revenue doesn't even know everyone's Bank accounts, and a lot of places still address me as Mr. middlename.

Nothing at all new. Has been discussed for several years already. Sometimes its asked and sometimes not. It would be silly to need to show proof of a government pension every year. It's a lifetime benefit though the amount and exchange rate vary.I think more than half of the "letters" are illegitimate. Some even claim rental income, but once they pay the mortgage on the property, the net is closer to 6500 thb. I've heard some reports of back-up proof at Immigration for Americans, and I've thought that would be the next shoe to drop for the last several years.
There are lots of SSDI recipients, between 50 and 62, who get far less than 65,000 thb. It seems like California will throw in a one way plane ticket.

Even a fixed deposit maturing during seasoning can be a problem.

the best case of "I do things the hard way," that I have seen all week. Don't you need a letter from the bank, with a stamp on it?
-
I've seen some serious accidents at openings like that, where people are just being polite. You have to be extremely careful, when crossing them; you usually can't see a lot of things approaching on the curbside lane.

B2 offers nice rooms. The condotel concept is common in Thailand. I don't recall any restrictions on minimum leases for condo owners, so doing it all at the front desk is even better. It would likely have a positive effect on maintenance. They have already done the same thing with the condos diagonally across from Promenada. 490 per night for the smaller rooms.

I am single and own a condo in Su Thep, Mueang, Chiang Mai. I got a Blue and a Yellow this year. Girlfriend was hekpful. Letter of Residency from Immigration, and translated photo page from passport,,,that was 300 thb at cmu LI. It can vary widely, even from one side of the street to another. Find the right office, have them double check, then see what they need. It's impossible in some Tambons, but very easy in others.

I clicked on "visas" and there is no mention of it. http://thaiembdc.org/visas/ Only TR and MT. I see it now, if you go through consular services at the top.

I noticed the websiteat Kalorama/DC makes no mention of METV, but I don't know of anyone, who ever got a triple there anyhow.

Average turnover rates in US public schools is close to 17%. Average is not good in the US. The long list of openings at Prem just raised a red flag, like there is a big house cleaning, or a mass exodus. Maybe someone can give us more detailed information on this specific school.

Mae Rim is beautiful in the hills.
Why not rent a house near Prem and have your kids go to a school that has a green campus and good teachers.
If you like night life stay in Chiang Mai.
I couldn't help but notice, Prem, has 15-20 job openings at the moment.

Look at the extra expense of owning a car, and living closer in will make a lot more sense. I do think Mae Rim is pretty nice, though. If traffic is like HD Road...holy shiiite. I was coming back from HomePro on Saturday afternoon..hadn't been out there much lately, but used to live at BWT, 7 years ago. Pretty much gridlock the whole way into the city. A friend made the same trip n Friday at 15:00 and said the same thing...you would think traffic would be a lot heavier going the other way in the afternoon, but apparently not. This lady I eat with four times a week, by CMU tells me she does 30 Km each way to work (Saraphi), not in rush hour, and it is really wearing her out. Even if gas was free.....miles and maintenace are real money.

watch out for pop-up blocker issues. I went down to my print/scan shop and looked it up on their computer, and tried to print it...they couldn't do it...and they have always been able to get jobs like that done before. I came home, printed the pdf to my thumb drive, and went back..saved 5 thb on the computer charge.

My passport translation was 300 at CMU LI....including official stamps, and can be issued another one, with a fresh stamp for 50 THB, any time in the future. But congrats....it, too, was more of a hassle than filing taxes in the US, but not as bad as doing a retirement extension in CM.
