  1. Suggestion: demand compensation for the results of the covid wrecking ball they themselves have inflicted on the Thai economy
  2. Curiosity is the mother of invention. Kids should be encouraged to be curious as part of their intellectual health. Questioning teachers, politicians, police is mandatory in order to find truth. 5000 years of the history of civilization - its science, its art, it's literature and it's history van be found on any student's phone. Is this important facet being utilised in our schools or is the telephone making our children intellectually lazy and producing a nation of drones?
  3. As a boat operator back home in Australia welcoming passengers aboard, I would ask the following questions: " can you swim?" " have you been on a boat before?"Answers to these two questions would immediately summarize the risk status of the passengers. Regardless, on a night passage with alcohol involved the mandatory wearing of life jackets would be implemented and a buddy system introduced so that supervision was assured. At night bearings are confusing so something should have been tossed overboard to provide flotation and a visual fix. Someone should have been seconded by the skipper to maintain a visual on the jettisoned article while he throttled back and came around in a wide arc. He would retrieve the emergency bag and withdraw a flashlight to commence a retrieval. Hoe many of these measure were implemented on that fateful night. My condolences are extended e friends, colleagues and family
  4. Any reasonably competent swimmer would have had no difficulty in swimming ashore or even treading water until being rescued by the boat from which she had allegedly fallen. That she was unable to do either would lead one to the conclusion that she was unable to swim or that she was knocked unconscious and sank immediately. Speculation has a fertile field upon which to grow. Let's be patient and wait for the result of the enquiry.
  5. Was there yesterday. Short queue. Completed vaccination status form and entered the building. No problems, no waiting.
  6. Agreed. China will be emboldened by Biden's incapability and indecisiveness. Taiwan will fall furthering China's ambitions. Be aware of false flags which will allow the PRC to extend its tentacles even further. Maybe a direct threat to LOS within the decade. A false flag? Let's see - devastating floods or drought leading to famine, for one.
  7. Considering the amount of sugar produced in this country, the production of a quality rum is a viable proposition. Thailand could emulate Australia's wonderful export of Bundaberg Rum - a product of the sugar industry around the city of Bundaberg.
  8. Seems there are a lot of disgruntled Thai men running amok. Where are the gruntled ones hiding?
  9. Always the contrarian! I disagree with the assertion that the standard masks which can be seen everywhere, are effective. Consider the size of the virus: 1/94th the size of the mesh in the mask. Look at it this way: 47 of the little buggers could hold hands across the gap. Get the jab and reduce the severity of the illness. Reduce your weight if you are obese, be wary if you are old.
  10. High production prices? Since when have farmers been able to pass these costs onto consumers? Greedy hiso middlemen are the likely culprits.
  11. Attended Tuesday night. Highly recommended. Festooned with miriads of lights, food in abundance and in great variety, entertainment in many different parts of the park. Can't help but reflect, similar festivities in Australia would have been witness to a plethora of beer selling stalls but none to be seen here. Still, everyone was seen to have an enjoyable experience and, no doubt, will look forward to the event next year.
  12. How strong is this Oriental Axis going to be when China eventually invades Taiwan? Which side will Asean members align themselves with then? Do they, in turn, risk the threat of invasion too or will they be merely vassal states of the PRC?
  13. Let's examine the motivation for this gratuitous largesse: 1) demographics. Thailand is facing a declining birth rate. Despite a rise in teenage pregnancies, overall the population is barely being increased, in fact the opposite is occurring. Both potential parents must work and subsequently postpone having children in order that they maintain social status. Fertility rates among the soy boys ( Thailand's warriors), according to reputable studies is also falling along with, in my observations, their increasing feminization and lack of libido. 2) government liquidity: from the above, one can ascertain that taxes will have to be increased or the taxable cohort expanded. 3) compliance: farangs held hostage by immigration edicts are putty in the hands of bureaucrats so throw out the burley to lure them into long stay visas. It would be the government's fervent hope that they would outnumber this generation's better educated and savvy young adults. Previous generations were duped or bribed depending on whether they were hiso or loso. The emerging sophisticated generation I call the soso and to the authorities' dismay their number is increasing exponentially. So, in summary, the above three points would suggest that the burley being offered does not entice those who indubitably do their research.
  14. Difficulty in reentry because of huge cost if over 72 or whatever? Time to retire elsewhere. Go to USA via Mexico. Free entry to utopia for illegal aliens!
  15. Laos is highly recommended but one night's stay is required. Submit passport and application on the first day and pick it up the next. Done and dusted!
  16. Jazz manual. Add turbo, enhance suspension, swap drums for disc brakes on rear, recaro driver seat and go for it! Should be close to the budget
  17. A contrarian going out on a limb. Let's look at the science. Data suggests that one's resistance to reinfection is more than thirty times stronger than vaccination if one has a prior infection. ( Israel sttudy for example)
  18. BKK drivers have a huge problem dealing with speed and distance judgement. Compounded enormously if they have to deal with three dimensional incidents
  19. Anti mugging 100% but forget about communication between driver and passenger. This from the voice of experience. Drove a taxi in Sydney so equipped 30 or so years ago - a Holden with a Perkins diesel engine. Slow but economical. So slow the double decker buses would overtake me while ascending the hill going out to Bondi - must have been around Rose Bay I think k. Ahh the memories come floating back
