  1. Thailand has a very thin veneer of civility. I have lived here for over 20 years and i am soon to leave - for ever. I can certainly sense that that thin veneer is being stripped away on a daily basis. Many of the poorest Thais that depend on tourism for their living are feeling that life is getting harder but they just don't know and certainly are not able to articulate why. The easiest targets are foreigners. Which of course ends up propagating their own hardship.

I somehow feel that many Thais think it is open season on foreigners. The level of aggression has increased exponentially over the past few years and it seems that the trend will increase.

I guess there will be some that say - not so. I guess those wannabe Thai types who live in there alternative reality tunnels will find rhyme or reason to dispute what i have said. Usually some fat cockney geezer what is married to a bird called Noi and has a couple of kids that he hasn't noticed are too dark skinned to be actually his. smile.png

Nice post Jonesthebaker however you omitted to mention ''he will invariably be wearing too many amulets as he struts around town, shirtless, proudly pushing Somchai's kids around in a buggy''

  2. Gik is one of those words which seems rather 'untranslatable' and has many subtle levels to it depending on who is using it in which (social) context

As I see it Gik is usually used to refer to a casual, short term sexual partner with remuneration usually involved in the set up.

It can also be used to refer to a sexual partner among younger women.

  3. I love splashing my cash at the Thais ,paying way over the odds & tipping silly money makes me feel good.

What's even better is knowing it pisses off so many of you miserable expats .

LOL, you need to have the cash to splash in the first place Kurt and we're not talking about leaving the old dear at the corner shop the 3B change from buying your weekly Mama Noodles and nightly urine-warm can of Leo.

  4. Nice coordinated attack on Lukecan here guys .Even being so bold to completely ignore the OPwink.png

They are so obsessed with me its unbelievable, I become the new OP in every thread I write thanks to these old timers, I feel so popular here.

I wouldn't say obsessed. It's more a case of enjoying watching you spit your dummy and making you look foolish even if you do a very good job of that on your own....

  5. If a Turkish bloke called Luke approaches you, refuse, as you'll never get a cab anywhere and spend around a million Baht at the floating Market....

Tour guides per se are a tough call in Thailand per se as there doesn't appear to be any official guide organisation. Not being flippant but Thailand is so easy to manage that DIY is usually what most people tend to do as there are volumes of books and many pages of info across the internet.

Many just go to a bar, get a lass and have her be the 'guide'.

  6. shit I withdrew 10,000 baht yesterdar, my dad called asking me what I was going to do with 1000 lira, 1000 lira= 14000 baht.

I withdrew it from the same bank, the one that starts iwth K

And to think you could have spent all that at the floating market....

I thought" iceman" had spent all his money on the taxi fare

Maybe his parents were just calling to ask about the trip to the market and if he managed to get a taxi....

  7. I woke my neighbour the other morning.

In respect for my missus I went out onto the balcony to let rip my morning 'blow off', following a night of Indian food and strong cider. My neighbour's head appeared at his window to ask if we had a new pet elephant......It set the dogs off too....

What would you prefer? The Call to Prayer or my powerful Curry and Cider fuelled/scented morning ar*e emissions.....sometimes it's better to count your blessings.

I find the Call to Prayer quite atmospheric. On my first ever 'big trip' I recall getting to Egypt, first time outside Europe, hearing the Call in the morning behind the din from the traffic while in my hotel room and it really felt like I was 'away' for the first time.

Wouldn't like it every morning mind like they get it on Soi NernPlabWan in Pattaya....

  8. Looks a bit light to be a Malayan Racer which tend to be darker than the Copperheads.

Have a care as Copperhead racers are super aggressive, can strike unprovoked, fast, long range and repeatedly inflicting messy bites though non ven......it looks like this one has already flattened out in aggressive warning too which would suggest a Copperhead.

    what floating market where???

I think he means the original one outside Bangkok, not the Pattaya touristy one.

I did it donkeys years ago, great trip although I had to get up at some insane hour.

Everybody gets a commission these days and the prices quoted are the initial gouging attempt.

Now it is just like a staged tourist attraction.

It's at Damnern Saduak about an hour's drive south of BKK. It's the original and best. It was in the James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun".

I went years ago too can't imagine what it's like now.

I took the missus last year during the cool snap so she could pay 50B more for the same sh*te she can get at the local market . It's hammered out as it's on every tourist itinerary (usually coupled with a trip to the Rose Garden which is pretty pleasant in cool weather).

  10. And good luck trying to be a pilot. Seems most of the people dreams have been crushed here and want u to feel the same as them.

Do you actually know the 'people here' and their dreams or is that just a spasmodic kneejerk posting?

My basic 'dream' was to live and work far from the grey shores of home in a decent job. I'd say I've managed that so please cease writing trite nonsense.....

  11. What did you do before the age of the t'internet? stay in?

Well tinderella, we had these incredible papery things called 'books' which were stuffed full of information. They were great use.

    UK'S HIGHEST PAID WORKERS
    1. Aircraft pilots and flight engineers - £90,420

Tinderella, that list seems to have missed out professional sportsmen who earn a tad more than pilots. I can assure you that Luke isn't just going to finish a week at pilot school and simply swan into the RAF Officer's Club in Piccadilly (or similar) in London as he seems to think he will, let alone jobs of that level. He'd not have the nous to get a taxi there and would spend his day walking up and down Regent Street clutching a map in his sweaty fists while the Turkish/East Euro scammers follow him licking their lips....

Lets face it, what we have here is a troll character with high aspirations, false levels of self image and ego but with zero life skills even in the most basic practical matters.....

  12. And I dont mind getting ripped off actually, but there is a line between getting ripped off and getting raped, 4000thb for a boat ride is rape.

I think a rape victim might disagree

Wow, 4000 baht is the same as rape. 10,000 must be a gang bang.

What's he going to call it when a Thai Sheila gets her hands on him and cons a house and car out of him?

    ?

She'd ask for it to be built in Khorat but it would probably end up being built in Keighley.....

  13. Just speaking generally here, and not about "Littering Police" per se: I am happy to see smokers busted for throwing their butts on the street, lawn or beach. World wide there are hundreds-of-millions of butts discarded this way every day. And to those smokers who throw still-lit butts on the beach to be stepped on by a barefoot person, I say f... you!

You wanna smoke 'em, then take responsibility for your own trash and stop littering the world.

Agree totally however the theme of this thread is more these clowns targeting tourists as easy meat...
